The meaning of "powerful" in this context is that who can regulate whom. If the government makes a wrong decision, it can be challenged by the Supreme Court. However, the Prime Minister cannot question the judiciary. This implies that the Supreme Court is not obligated to accept decisions or work done by the Prime Minister, but the Prime Minister is bound to accept decisions made by the Supreme Court or the Chief Justice of India. The conclusion is that the judiciary is more powerful, as it can even pass judgment on the Prime Minister.

Absolutely right ..Hon Supreme Court or CJI becomes more powerful then Prime Minister when any verdict passed by Hon Supreme Court saying that a particular action or decision passed by the Govt / PM is against the provisions of the Constitution. Actually Constitution is the Supreme & guardian of the constitution is no doubt is our Hon Supreme Court & head of Hon Supreme Court s CJI ..You are always bound to say or write Hon Supreme Court but not in the case of a prime Minister.

Basic structure doctrine is a falsified instrument. For example 'secularism and socialism' never had been included in the preamble of Indian Constitution and so they are didn't constitute the basic structure.

@@mohinudeenkhan4517 Don't try to be judgmental. And don't preach. Say any judge as a challenge to win any single election, leave MP/MLA aside, even a Corporator or a Pradhan. Shahabano case is an example how any PM could kick off the decision of apex court.

The judiciary has a very limited function- of adjudicating cases that come up before them fairly, based on fact and the law. And one principle of jurisprudence is that justice should not only be done but seen to be done. Viewed thus, our judiciary is a total failure. The PM is certainly in the driver's set and have to show results of growth for the nation, reflected in the quality of life of the people. And he cannot survive unless he delivers on this requirement. The CJI has no such compulsions and still get his pay and retire with a lot of pension even if he doesn't give verdict in a single case during his tenure. And ultimately, the judge, including the CJI can only issue verdicts. It will be the executive, headed by the PM, which will execute those verdicts.
