what app do you use on your phone for the travel safely?
@@codyking3230 Hi Cody,
We use the RVLife app which includes RV Trip Wizard and an RV Safe GPS right on your phone! You can enter the dimensions of your rig into the GPS and it will help ensure you don't go under a bridge that is too low (we did that with WAZE one time! Ugh!)
Here's the link and if you use RVBLOGGER25 you can save 25%

Sign up with your computer first then go to the app store and download the RVLife app to your phone and use the same user name and password and you will be all set!
Safe travels!

Great list - I'd like to see something like this that is specifically target towards Adventure Trailer owners
There could be information out there for that type of trailer but we don't experience with those. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I think it is also important to have a repair kit for any electrical problems that may come up.
Yes! Very important to be able to make your own repairs...just be careful when it comes to electrical. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Perfect. Just sent a request to join the FB group, taking notes of how to set up the campsite and what toys i need to get started.
That's awesome! Hope you find great help in the group. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great Videos. Enjoy your approach. Bet someone has already mentioned in the comments GLOVES, and the various types needed, small air compressor.

I'm a little behind watching your videos, but I found something that needs to be addressed here. You show the Progressive Industries Surge Protector and then go on to describe the operation of the Progressive Industries Electrical Management System. A surge protector only protects you from that surge of current/voltage that will damage the electrical system and equipment in the RV. It will NOT protect you from an undervoltage condition you described. The PI surge supressor will check the power coming from the pedestal for open neutral or ground as well as a crossed hot and neutral. After that it stands by to clamp down on the surge or sacrifice itself in the event of a large surge.
I chose to spend the additional $$ to pick up the EMS that will test the pedestal before applying power to the RV. It then monitors the line and drops power in the event of overvoltage or undervoltage events. Power is returned when or if that condition is corrected. PI also incorporates double the surge protection value so it won't die as fast as their SSP.
I got my EMS at the same time as I got the water pressure regulator, for exactly the same reason. You can't guarantee that whatever the park is supplying is always safe for RV use
Hi Daniel,
Thanks so much for your comment. I'll have to investigate further and add a correction statement in the description if needed. You would be surprised how much I learn from our subscribers and I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the difference.
Thanks very much!

Water filter(s)
Hi Rottenredus, what about water filters? Thank you for watching our RV Newbie Gear and Tips video and commenting.
What are the names of some of those apps that help you know the height of your RV etc?
Hey Koichi,
You should be able to look up the make and model of your rv to find the height :)

I am getting my first camper (Flagstaff Micro Lite 21ds). Pulling with a 1/2 ton Ram. Should I install trailer brakes? Thanks.
Hey Mike,
Basic rule of thumb for most states is if your camper weight more thank 3k lbs you should install trailer brakes. However some states require with as little as 1k lbs, for example NY and NC. We always recommend getting trailer brakes.

Fire extinguisher is an absolute must have, I really like that you explained that they do indeed expire and need to be checked. Our old pop-up had a little extinguisher that fit in nice little storage pocket but this summer we had a rear caliper on the truck lock up and catch the brake pads on fire! I immediately ran for the extinguisher in the trailer only to discover that the powder had congealed in the bottom and it was useless!! Thankfully we had several full water bottles that I could pour on the fire but it was a terrifying having a fire under the truck with a full propane bottle on the front of the trailer! After getting the brakes replaced I went out and got new extinguishers for the trailer as well as the truck!!!
Hi Brian,
That had to be pretty scary!!!
Glad you were able to put the fire out even though your fire extinguisher was bad.
Thanks for sharing your experience...hopefully others reading through the comments will see it too!

I'm a soon-to-be newbie, but I'm very particular about my car windshield and wipers, so I'm going to suggest having a squeegee and sponge thing like you see at gas stations, and a set of spare wipers. OH! Better have a step-stool so you can reach! There's nothing I hate worse than glare in the windshield. It's dangerous and nerve wracking! Keep it CLEAN for comfort and safety.

I asked the FM crew what our most necessary gear was. Craig gave the obligatory “the stinky slinky” ;) I would say that here in NC, with the relatively mild fall/winter weather we get, I love our electric ceramic heater. Stay warm, Save propane, have fun :) Peyton says nothing says adventure like Fairy lights :) I think this pretty much sums up our respective priorities!
Well said!
Thanks for watching!

I think an essential (at least safety item) piece of equipment is a Rear View Camera mounted on the upper rear body of your camper/trailer. It's not a backup camera. Rather the rear view camera remains ON all the time when you're hooked up, traveling. That feature lets you know what & who's all around you at all times. Is someone tailgating you? Is someone trying to pass you in an unsafe situation? You will know that as you monitor that screen, usually resting up on the dash. My Airstream came with it already, but since these items are not really expensive, it pays to have one installed to help you be less tense when driving as well as backing up into a camping site.
Hi Frank,
Thanks for the suggestion!

Hello. My husband and I just purchased a trailer. We are total newbies so I appreciate all of you videos. I can’t seem to find the rhino hose with that Y hose for the sewer hose and regular water hose for flushing the black tank. Did you get that from Amazon as well.
HI Mgn,
Yes but there is a huge shortage of the RhinoBlaster. I called Camco and they are supposed to be available again soon. Here is the link to where you can find another version made by Camco..

Love your channel, great list. You could add an extension cord and hose extensions in case the hookups are a little further away than normal. Also one of those aluminum, collapsible ladders can come in handy as well. Keep up the good work!

Is a preset pressure regulater without a gauge and adjustment just as good?
Hi Emma,
Great question!
I don't recommend the preset pressure regulators without the gauge. I like to see the pressure so I know it's working properly and I have even adjusted mine a few times.
I think you could get away with it and save a few bucks but it's not something I recommend.

Never use standard home toilet paper in your RV, never! It can easily hang up on your holding tank sensors and give false readings. In the supermarket look for "septic tank safe" toilet paper, cheaper than buying RV/Marine paper at Camping World, and easier to find. Secondly, the video depicts leaving your RV connected with a sewer hose with valves open. This is wrong. Never leave your black tank valve open while camping. Doing so will accumulate solids in the black tank and cause problems long term. The black tank needs water in the black tank to break down the solids (including toilet paper) with the chemicals you add. You should dump the black tank after it gets 1/2 or 3/4 full, ideally after you have driven some curvy roads for 50mi to slosh the tank around. Also, dump the grey tank water right AFTER you dump the black tank, which rinses out the black water from the hose to prevent a mess and smells. SO..... camp with both valves SHUT, and dump boths tanks after the black tank is half full, and then rinse our the those with a grey water tank dump. After dumping both black then grey, SHUT the vales to accumulate the waste again. I also recommend flushing the toilet for 10 seconds each time to increase the water in the black tank, but that's only advisable when you have a water hookup, not as appropriate when boondocking.
Hi Tom,
All great advice. I don't condone using residential toilet paper but so many people ask about it and A LOT of full-timers use it. So - I felt I should address the issue in the video.
Also - did I say you should leave you tank valves open in the video? I hope not...you should never do that.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Mike and Susan
No, you didn't say anything about valves open, it was implied with the hose connected, carefully sloped for gravity flow, which isn't needed when dumping as I described, about once a week.
@@TomSpurlock Ok that's cool, I just checked out your channel. Nice vids!
