My favorite part: Nobody had to save the day with superhuman performances. Except for Van Ginkel's pick 6, there wasn't anything that was highlight reel worthy. They played well. They played consistent. They made very few mistakes.

What? The precision pass over the middle to TE Josh Oliver, the perfect 44 yard drop in the bucket to Jefferson after being backed up on their own 1 yard line after a superb Giants punt, and the absolute deception on wide open Nailor TD.
I think once Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison really hit their stride being superhuman, this team will be another 98 or 2017. I think what's going to happen next year, is that we're going to have a quarterback controversy, and if we're smart, we ride with Sam Darnold but also try to draft a rookie quarterback in a later round that can develop under Darnold We trade JJ McCarthy to a team that is desperate for a Young quarterback.

IMO, Darnold looked very comfortable out there. He looked very confident and that is contagious.
Contrast how Darnold looks with KOC and Jefferson, compared to how Cousins looks without KOC and Jefferson. Hmmm interesting. Kirk was always known as accurate, while folks thought Sam was scattergun and panicky. Sam has a 79% completion for 2 TDs and an unlucky INT. Kirk has a 61% completion, 2 INTs and a fumble....

this was genuinely my favorite vikings game ive watched in a while. it felt like we were just winning the entire time. making good plays and we knew we were winning before it ended. i am so tired of needing to remind myself that it’s just a football game when we are insanely close to the other team or vice versa.

I agree wholeheartedly. This was one of the few games that I felt like Vikings kept their momentum going the entire game. but then again, it was the giants. we'll see what happens next weekend.

As an OG Jets fan, I am so happy for Sam. He seems like a good dude.
Phillips, Hunter and Wonnum barely got off the field last season, and when Wonnum went down late, the D Line just hit the wall. Flores brought in guys like Tillery and Jihad to help take the load off Phillips, and has a three headed rotation with Greenard, AVG and Turner, and even they got a break late with Pat Jones and Jihad finishing out the game.
I don't think many folks are factoring in the effect of having a much deeper rotation and keeping players fresh late into the season.

They beat them last year too. The defense on paper has improved and showed that against the Giants (Daniel Jones is garbage though). The offense I think is still a question mark in terms of their potential with Darnold at the helm. As long as Darnold doesn't have to play hero ball, we should have a good showing next week on offense.

We gave Kirk so many weapons all for what? One playoff win and a bunch of 8 win seasons. He was not worth the money we were paying him. I’m glad he left. He can go milk Atlanta for their cap space lmao.

This is what i feel most of the vikings fans have been talking about all off season. Darnold is not that big of a drop off from kirk. The defense is better. Im hoping we keep surprising some people over the next few weeks.

This was too good of a start. I'm nearly certain they will lose by 30 to the Niners so that balance is restored to the universe.

As a long-time Vikings fan, and former MN resident. It has been a challenge to support the team for me, as a GA resident. I am glad to finally say as a complete team, leadership, coaching, offense, and defense personnel. I haven't felt this good about the team in a while😊 I might buy a jersey this year. I may even get a Darnold jersey😳!

Where the team is talented, underachieved the previous season, but surprises everyone and goes really far.

1998 only existed because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers underperformed. The previous year, the Vikings have Chris Carter, Jake reed, Robert Smith, and that offense line.
2017 existed because the Packers underperformed.

Against giants
Anyone who paid attention to Vikings training camp knows that Darnold was always going to start anyways. He was great all offseason and JJ is still learning. It stinks that he got hurt but it was never massively impactful for this year. It more so just slows JJ's work on the physical side of the game for the future.

It was the Giants... As a Giants fan, I urge you not to get too excited. The Giants haven't been a top tier team since what 2006 or 07. The defense is inconsistent, and they let Saquan walk to keep Daniel Jones... Saquan was Jones''s relief outlet. Defenses worried more about Saquan than Jones. Good win, but they are gonna have to do it against a good team.

The Giants receivers really let Jones down with all those drops. That D Line is legit. I honestly think they'll beat the Commanders next week. They were not terrible. The Vikes were just dominant in all phases, despite errors.
As, a Vikings fan one thing I can say is that the Vikings will always be some what competitive. Like, last year they didn't have a great quarterbac, and they still won 7 games. So, I think they can at least win 8 or 9 wins.

Against a scrub team
Darnold will be a great fit for this team this season. However the biggest help for Darnold will be this teams defense. If they can keep teams from reaching the endzone, all he has to do is keep drives alive.

Darnold seems much more comfortable in the pocket. He makes better decisions than Kirk did. I think he has a better arm too.
He’s more talented for sure. He can throw at various arm angles and isn’t bad as a runner, Kirk was a statue. His decision making was good. If the giants have one position that’s above league average is their d line, and I think he held up in that regard (lots of credit to the o line).

Vikings fan here, Darnold played exactly how he needs to play for the rest of the year I’m not expecting 4,000 yards 40 TDs and like 10 or less picks. He played very efficient very confident and he didn’t cost us horrible mistakes yeah he had the INT but that’s going to happen. The next few weeks is going to be such a gauntlet of tough competition I mean the 49ers Texans Packers Jets and Lions are our next few games, obviously hoping we can manage to win all of these next tough games but I’m hoping to pull off 2-3 wins out of these next matchups

I'm there with you 100%. They did it last season without Jettas, with a worse O Line and D Line, and secondary, and Sam should know their defence after a season of practicing against them. I still don't think that anyone will take notice of the Vikes until they beat the Texans in week 3. The Packers without Love also seem very beatable, and the Jets will have to show a lot more than they did today to trouble anyone. I think this is the end of Rodgers.

I feel like my only take away from this game is that I’m looking forward to next week. Had they looked awful or even mediocre against giants I wouldn’t have had much interest. Let’s judge Darnold based on what he does down 4 inside of two minutes. Good week 1. Now let’s see how for real it was.

It has been 4 seasons since Cousins had a 2 score victory. Sam does that in his first start, and on the road, against a good defence. Meanwhile Cousins, on the back of his success at the Vikings was expected to lead the Falcons to a division title - and started off looking like an aging anchor - much like the last season or Matt Ryan.
Against a Giants that didn't score a TD in preseason
Vikings fan here, I give the Vikings a B+ rating for the game. For me the defense was an A and the offensive was a B.

Yes indeed! A fast start, then a complete collapse. As a Minnesota resident, I have come to expect nothing more. In my opinion, this was a game between two teams going nowhere. Sorry to all you Vikings fanatics, but I'll bet I am right, as I have been for years.
That schedule is already looking easier. CMC missed this week and Aiyuk and Williams are still a bit underdone. It looks like the Packers will be without Love. The Jets looked anemic. The Rams have got half their O Line out and Puka Nacua, so they could still be missing players in week 7. The Lions did not look anywhere near as good as hyped. The Falcons look very beatable, and I could easily see them benching Cousins part way through the season. The Bears O Line and D looked pretty porous against a weak Titans outfit. The Seahawks really struggled to get past a dink and dunk Broncos outfit.
A lot of games that looked pretty tough last week, look at least winnable now.

The Vikings MO in the 90s was "injure the starter, ride the backup to the playoffs." Moon --> Johnson, Johnson -->Cunningham, Cunningham --> George. Same vibe. JJ is a stud (Go Blue) and he'll have his day, and the Giants are a bit of a trash team, but this season starting off on the formula.

The big flaw in everyone’s analysis of the Vikings/Giants game is that nobody is taking into account that the Giants are a bottom 3 team with basically ZERO offense! The Viking will most likely be underdogs in the next 5 out of 6 games and if Love makes it back for the Vikings game in week #4, then they will be an underdog in that game as well, so now the real season starts! Probably they will get a dose of reality against the 49ers in week#2. If they win that game then people can start talking!

The Giants offense was bad. If they'd make a few plays, such as a TD on that early Vikings fumble, then it would have been a closer game but the Viking would still have won. First game with Darnold as QB...Addison didn't play the 2nd half and TJ is out but they still looked good and make few mistakes....definitely a team to watch. Lets see how they do against the 49ers, Vikes are at home but the 49ers looked dominant against the Jets. IMO though the Jets are over-hyped and the Vikings did beat the 49ers last year without Justin Jefferson.
