I'm from Ghana and heard this song as a kid. I've been searching for this song for so long, but nobody seems to remember the song. Just bought a copy. Happy me.
It's Xmas again (26th December 2024) and I just heard a DJ playing it back to back so I run here to have it bring me the memories of my teenage years i.e the year 2000-2007. We danced our hearts out brutally with this song. 😅
Somewhere in winneba junction a town called Asebu ....if u are a DJ and u come there to play music at a wake keeping and u don't play this song means u are not a good DJ ...... respect ata kak....
How am I Ghanaian and I haven't heard this before. Going through the comments I realize how it's more appreciated by the foreigners more and that's actually got me wondering. I love music and listen to music very much but I've never heard this before and I'm 26yrs
It's not just appreciated by foreigners... it's just that probably you grew up in the big cities or you were younger and only came on when hip-life started taking over... I knew this song when I was young and started searching for it but to no avail until this year!!! Thank God because I have been reliving those memories and enjoying the track continuously... My colleagues at work, who probably, were born in the big cities have never heard of it and marvels them how I know such song!!!
I saw him on the same tour in Adelaide, he was over 2 hours late to start the show and we started a mosh pit when he finally came on. Every one had a great time and I was exceedingly hungover at work the next day

Obaa sima means a virtuous and hard working woman. He's praising the love of his life. he is saying since she came into his life, all his sadness now turned into happiness
I suggest you to listen 1974 LP called “Disko Kebap” by Urfali Babi. (Genre: Disco Funk, Psychedelic, Turkish traditional music) You can found it on RUclips
Also tcheck for William Onyeabor, Francis Bebey, and I have other name but can't remenber. Not exactly the same style than this but they are incredible african musician !
"Should we mixdown the track and get the vocals sounding crisp?" "Nah, I'm hungry. Let's just stick it on a tape and go get some barbecue." *-Ata Kak, probably*
The article Living the Highlife brought me here after listening to Dj Katapila. This is part of the Ghana mobile disco history. I was a Dj apprentice then, traveling all the way from my village in the Central region to the city to be a "packer" as we used to be called then. My experience in those has helped me enormously in my current career in the arts.

Watch Ata Kak's documentary! Piracy, ironically, helped preserved and spread Ata Kak (and other people's) music.
