    Hi Matt. Your drop links video has been a complete life saver after being quoted over £250 from Renult when these were picked up after a service. Ordered the parts and fitted no problem.

    Thank you for this video, used it to replace them 2 weeks ago, any rattling is gone.

    Beautifully clear and concise and looks an easy fix. Couldn't quite see what failure had actually taken place? It had just become "sloppy" in some way or distorted?
    The makers list price is quite outrageous for such a simple component and as to omitting the locking nuts, adding insult to injury come to mind. Trouble is, if an authorised dealer does any replacements, these are the rip off costs that the garage will be blamed for!

      @GoGreenAutos  6 лет назад +4

      Failure is just wear in the ball joints, which causes knocking. Wear felt really quite small, but its amplified when on the car.

    Good video! I ordered third party ones for 6 gbp each. Hopefully they’ll last longer than the previous Renault ones. The only lasted 1 year. 😂
    (I’m pretty aggressive over speed bumps etc though…)

    I would also add, after replacing the drop links in a few Zoe's now, you may find that the drop link bolt/stud could be rusted and the allen key doesn't hold it, If that's the case, you'll need an angle grinder with a cutting blade and cut the bolt off. It's all pretty easy if you have tools.

    • @Fragffs
      @Fragffs 3 года назад +1

      You can also use vise grips.

      On older cars, they're often are rusted and need the bolts cutting with an angle grinder.

    Good video, thanks. Does make you wonder why dealers insist upon locking out the 400v battery for the job, presumably 'elf and safety'. Obviously the suspension is on full droop there but it does strike me that the ABS wire is under fairly significant tension; we'll see if those start being a problem in the next few years.

    Great Job. So not only are the Genuine Renault ones inferior low quality, and arguably not fit for purpose they are extortionate priced, great Bilstein quality for a sensible price winner winner all the way 🏆

    Fantastic vid. How do I determine if my problem is the droplinks and not the ball joints or another part of the suspension?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  3 года назад +4

      If its the first suspension work on your car, then I can almost guarantee its the droplinks. They are the first things to wear out.
      But to find suspension wear, you need to lift the car up and lever the parts with a long bar and feel for play on the wheels.

    Hey Matt, is there any visual indication that the drop links are worn / failed? Our Zoe has been to the dealer twice to sort out “bumpy” steering a low speeds, especially at full lock but all they’ve done is adjusted tracking / alignment and it’s not done anything to help the issue. I’m wondering if it may be the drop links? 2020 ZE50, 32k miles (4 years old).

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Месяц назад +1

      No there isn't. If they are worn (and they're likely to be) then you'll get a knocking when driving on a rough/bumpy road.
      The droplinks are normally the first thing to wear out, especially on a Zoe.

    Thanks.

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  2 месяца назад

      You need to lift both sides, otherwise the droplink will be under pressure.

    Hi I tried doing this but the bloody Allen key bit has lost its shape and now I can’t undo the bolt half way through so it’s lose what is the best size angle grinder to get in there as space is tight in there thanks

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  2 года назад +2

      I use a 115mm grinder but sometimes a larger one actually works better as the cutting disk has a deeper cutting depth which makes it easier. So I would say, any size grinder should do the job.
