- This video showcases a 1960's RCA KU-3A Ribbon Microphone. Prices on these microphones have skyrocketed, and there are very few samples out there to listen to. With these microphones being unique Cardiod ribbons, listening to them is crucial before shelling out thousands. Hopefully this video helps shed some light into how the KU-3A Ribbon sounds!

Thanks man....gave up looking for demos of these years ago and forgot about them.
Those toms sound absolutely lovely!
I believe that the KU-3A is possibly the "best" sounding ribbon mic ever made
this is a great mic...had not known of it before...love it
Woah, that’s something else! ❤
Awesome stuff. Keep‘m comming
Great video, It's a sweet sounding mic!
Love it
man in that acoustic guitar i went OH SUENA FILETE! (chilean for "it sounds killer") and the drums OH also sounds amazing!
wow it's dope
Awesome ;)
Audio-technica AT4080&4081 need more samples but they are modern active ribbons.
Samar MF65 and economic sister mic the VL37 are nearly identical in sound but not in price. They have nearly no samples out there. The ones there are sound great though.
As someone who works on a boatload of mics, why can't modern manufacturers make new mics that compete with these older designs?
Most manufacturers use Neodymium magnets these days! While they are stronger, I personally think the original Alnico magnets add a lot of the character that we like about these old mic’s. I believe Coles still uses an Alnico combo in their microphones, which may add to why people still like them so much!
Please make a demo of a Coles/STC 4037 :)
Sounds a lot better than the AEA version. The AEA has an absolutely ridiculous price tag too!
