I like when she opens the car door and mics spill out like she's the mad mic lady, that is funny. She is very good at parodying herself, that's a healthy sense of humor.
I was more like...WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!
How can you not fall in love with a lady who loves microphones, history, rock'n roll, and wears a jacket like that!
That mic just had the creamy, dulcet tones of 1940's movies - now you sound and look like a movie star! :o)
Thanks for showing these. Great video.
Thanks, great video!
Hi Sylvia! What a great tutorial and demonstration of Vintage RCA!
Well done and easily understandable. Thank you so much for All You Share!
Be Well All!
I absolutely ADORE this series of videos! Huuuge fan!
Thanks Sylvia! Your energy is truly inspiring!
Everytime I watch one of your videos, I get reminded of 'just' how fun it is to record.
Sometimes I do need reminding, so a big thank you for your precise amount of awesomness!
I cracked up at the intro! 🤣
Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge and collection, it is much appreciated!
Hi Sylvia! Glad you are doing a great job taking care of the Paquette Mic collection and adding it to your own incredible collection! OK, RCA 74B. LOVE THEM, I have 4, I use either a Royer 122 or an RCA 74 on guitar cabs. The ribbon is almost as wide as the 44 so due to the mass (unlike the 77's tiny ribbon) is has a fatter sound. Love these things! (And you heard Clarence Kane of ENAK passed away, right? I had the honor to speak at his funeral. Sent you an email....
Hi Mam...
You are great.
I love you Mam.
Love you from India..💜💜💜💜💜🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
I found out about Ribbons from a Chris Whitley recording, but no way I will ever own a vintage RCA. That's OK, there are many people who are making "replica" mics with good specs. Thanks, Sylvia. Funny intro. This explains why my fave older movies sound so great, music and dialogue.
I remember you mentioning you had a big haul of classic mics incoming, that was months ago. Now we can all ooze over some history and some interesting pieces of technology.
Do the magnets loose strength over the years??
Jezus phucking internet. Now gear reviews are even just only fans. 0:13 push the back button.
What mic is it that Thom Yorke uses? He's an amazing singer of course but that beautiful soft analog sound he gets is amazing.
please make a vid about ur energy and beliefs I feel like people could learn a lot from u, the way you vibe Is unique
You ever dress them up like Barbie and uh... perhaps Michael?
I never gave a flying fish about mics before. But this is honestly fascinating.
That’s the best intro I’ve heard in a long time!😂
The 44 at that time, costed less than the AEA R44 today.
they'll have the spaghetti and i'll go with the mic du jour and salad bar, please
Oooooooh, it's Sylvia !!! :) Bless you!
(sigh) You are a ray of light in a somber
and drab world. Teach us more, teacher!
As a producer of audiobooks i´m pretty fascinated by your microphone collection Mylady. I couldn´t resist subscribing.
What a babe!
Super interesting! Subscribed.
Product Demonstrator Barbi rocks \m/
Nice intro, good history lesson, great mics! Can't wait for the next one.
Silvia, you are a national treasure!
At one of my very first jobs in the early 70s, I worked as Summer Relief Technician at CBC Radio in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A lot of the equipment there dated back to the 1950s or even 1940s, McCurdy consoles with rotary pots and such. Studio C was equipped with a big old dented RCA 44. I thought at the time that the sound was warm but had a slightly muffled quality compared to the modern condenser mics in use in the rest of the station. (For Canadians, legendary announcer Max Ferguson first started his long-running “Rawhide” show from Studio C in Halifax- probably on that same RCA 44.)
WHAT IS THAT POPPING SOUND
Thanks for sharing the video, Sylvia! Really great stuff and looking forward to your future episodes. Hope you're all safe and well! - chaz
This is awesome!! Very informative and insightful, thanks Sylvia you are the best!!
I love this lady
dear Sylvia... i read in some page that you work on some mixes for "One Hot Minute"(RHCP)... did you have anything to show us? its my favourite album ever, and people dont realize how good is... ¡saludos desde Chile!
Awesome episode!! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. And yes that ribbon mic fits your voice so perfectly, must admit it gave me goosebumps lol
hello amazing
Love your Videos, it's allways inspiring! thank you very much for all the knowledge
00:08 jajajajja
thanks for this video, I love the way you produce and record music. A great friend recommended that I follow you to learn about music production. and there is nothing to regret !!! genius!!!
I don't know English but I needed to express it, hehehe rock and roll forever !!!
Must have an obsession in music to grasp its vastness... I too am a melomaniac, just wish I had a tenth of the gear you have. I am a firm believer in analog mixers and recording, something about the organic luscious buttery smooth richness verses digitals tinny glassy sound. You have an amazing studio and even more of an amazing vast collection of dreamy gear Ms.Massy!🤘
Even with youtube compression its stil incredible the quality difference between a lav and an old ribon, so so warm.
Nobody like you, you explain everything so perfectly, your the business🤘🏻⚡️🤘🏻
nice!
Sylvia inspired me so much, that I have been taking my Airstream rig to the wilds of Canada to record the beyond; from cuverts to creeks to forest reverbs. She's my sister from another mother. Thank you Sylvia.
Very cool! I love how soft and natural those old ribbons sound. Do these mics have the original ribbon elements?
This wouldn't normally fascinate me but hearing the history and specs from none other than the queen of engineering herself is much more intriguing to learn. I can listen and learn anything she has to say.
Holy smoke, that focusrite Isa preamp... o.O lovely video!
I prefer the back of the mic. It seemed to have just enough mid scoop. What kind of connectors do those have?
I truly hope selling that sweet desk to fund this collection takes you to the next level. I'm not sure what that level would be considering you don't travel in any straight line ever :)
I just discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm soo in love with your content! Thanks for sharing all that cool stuff! (:
the legend
Love this! Thank you for demonstrating the sound of the mic. More please :)
Love this! Thank you!
Okay AEA... I think you've got your next project!
top! merci!
I love every RCA ribbon mic I've heard so far. Looking forward to more episodes.
The large one probably gives you transatlanic accent. I assume the hiss is due to its age?
I have to be honest, you're a stunner. Your videos and topics are always great but that comes as no surprise.
Sylvia Massy 😘🥰😍😇
A mic a day keeps the silence away! Looking forward to episode 2 ♥️✖️
The microphone sounds a bit like my telephone...
thank you so much! so educational :)
Sylvia you're awesome! I love these videos.
Sylvia is just my favorite person
That junior is amazing
My heart broke when Sylvia opened the car door and those mics fell down 😭
That's actually what roadies do to dynamic mics, lol.
Thank you Sylvia. :-)
You had me at the intro song...
you rock
First woohoo 😊
This is so much fun!!
You rule.
She is so awesome!
Can you make more of these. It is fascinating.
There she is 😍
