      Welcome aboard. Just watch out for lighting. This series was made before the new dynamic lighting. So any lighting stuff here will be legacy lighting.

    OMG! Finally! A good tutorial on Roll 20 from someone who is thorough and honest, and a tad sarcastically funny. ;) Thanks for making this! Roll 20's own tutorials feature someone who talks 90 miles an hour (ok bad unit conversion but you know what I mean) so I have to keep captions on and pause to read what she says and then try it on Roll 20.

      The secret is to talk REALLY slow and then users can speed you up if they want using the RUclips playback features. :D

    I really cannot thank you enough for this and all of the other Roll20 videos you've put out. Your explanations are complete and concise and highlight so many of the problems and questions I had as a new online DM trying to figure out Roll20 that I'm just deeply indebted to you. You rock!
    P.S.: I am sure you already know about it, but I've currently gotten my Players using D&D Beyond for their character sheets, and we use the Beyond20 Chrome plug-in to allow interconnectivity between DDB and Roll20. Works great for having them pay attention to the (IMO) more intelligible DDB interactive character sheets, while I run NPCs and monsters through Roll20. I have some players who aren't able to tolerate much technical set-up, so having an easy solution for them helps a lot. Your tips on Roll20 are helping me smooth those rough edges even more for them before the next session. Thanks again!

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 года назад +1

      It's cool that you are giving your players the option to use either interface. Glad you are all able to game together online. All my players have access to full legendary tier DNDBeyond, but I have not endorsed the use of Beyond20 plugin, mainly because I try to avoid plugins for Roll20, though I hear nothing but great things about it.

    1:44 I've never EVER thought of a menu icon like that as a hamburger, but now I also can''t unsee it haha. Amazing tutorial so far, I'm very new to DnD in general and got hooked on wanting to learn it because of Baldur's Gate 3. I'm going to try to get my friends to join a DnD session, they're not big gamers so I'll probably have to find ways to make it all very simple and this tool makes it visualy pleasing for people who normaly play video games mostly.

      As of this exact moment (4/10/20), quick fixes:
      💎Refresh browser
      💎Check is the new dynamic lighting (it's in beta still) is on
      💎Check if advanced fog of war is on
      💎make sure Hardware Acceleration is turned on your browser (chrome)
      💎Turn off 3D dice
      💎Try using the incognito mode of your browser

    The colour change doesn't only affect the dice, but also the scribbles/marks players can make on the map. They can choose a different colour for drawing, but that's the default one.

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 года назад +2

      Also true. That's why it's a good practice to not have the same color as the DM. That way everyone knows when the DM is pinging something.

    Interesting you said you had difficulties with your video - once I got mine set up, it worked great!
    The issue for me was I set my video up for another program and Firefox couldn't find the devices, but once I reset them in firefox settings and reset my PC, everything worked well.

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  4 года назад

      That's good to hear. But for me, dealing with it for 5 years with 5-6 games a week, I have found the times that it works well, and works well consistently, to be few and far between for myself and my 25+ players. Most of my sessions are only 3 hours long, I don't want to spend a single minute of that time running tech support or waiting for players to restart/reboot and tweak settings. So, I have switched to discord because the platform is more reliable and easier to use and get my players set up. I made a video about using discord and groovy bot for sound if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/Ji5F6ksPGc0/видео.html

    • @CrashGem

      The 5 weekly campaigns and one monthly campaign wouldn't be so bad, but adding in the 40 hour a week day job definitely makes it very difficult to stay on top of everything. And you are welcome, I hope the videos are helpful.

    Great video! It would've been nice to give one or two reasons why Jukebox is so bad. It looks ok to me. What's wrong with it?

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  Год назад

      I find for best performance you want to move sound off your browser. using audio for voice and music and even SFX through Discord free up more resources to to run the actual VTT. At the time of this video, 2+ years ago, Jukebox's performance was abysmal, and it was a huge resource hog.

    What happened that made Jukebox so bad now?

    • @CrashGem
      @CrashGem  Год назад

      The issue all VTT's have with sound is that you are running everything through one program: your browser. As lights, vision, SFX, and increased map sizes pile up more and more features, you have less and less resources to go around. Sound can be very taxing on those resources. You will always get better performance if you use something like discord (the actual app, not the website login version of the app) for voice and music.
