There are enough insta hiking videos of people true hiking whilst stacking rocks, listening to indie rock free sample music, eating local organic pulses and wearing nothing but an ethically sourced Cuban fibre onesie.
I like your hiking. Makes me feel better that the rain sucks! Makes me laugh at the unbridled joy of finding a bench Or finally feeling the sun. Dude you did a cool thing. Beat a demon and won.
    Great job!

Thru-hiked the trail back in 1980 and it was challenging! I had hiked the entire AT between 1974-1978 in a series of hikes with the Boy Scouts, then Explorers, then buddies, and then finished up the missed sections alone. Loved the NPT so much I went back and bought 19 acres on the Boquet River. I sold it eventually to a lumber mill as I had to move my business out to the Midwest. I did do a lot of camping in the pines by the river there and caught a ton of trout over the years before I moved.

I'm proud of you guys. It was nice to see a real video. The ups and downs, the physical issues and mental issues. Showing that not all hikes are without problems and fabulous weather. Personally I love seeing the mountains and rivers/waterfalls here in Alberta Canada but the NPT would be a decent trip. Glad you toughed it out.

I finally was able to comment on this video (I watched weeks ago), I enjoyed seeing this! I thru-hiked the NPT back in summer of 2012. Sorry to see the store in Piseco was closed, it was a nice treat on my thru-hike. The NPT was the only trail on which I have experienced trail magic, ac up of soda while staying in a shelter on Long Lake recuperating from a cold, rainy day (sound familiar?). Thanks for bringing back good memories!

I thought the fact that you f&cking persevered and finished was PLENTY inspiring. To feel exhausted, defeated, and DONE emotionally physically and spiritually IS an inspiring message. That’s real life guys….thank you for sharing the blood sweat and cold rain with those of us watching from a warm spot at work 😂🙌❤
I got a real sense this time of your hiking agonies and epic wins. There’s also a new respect for what you have to do to video your journey, then edit it for your audience. VERY good!
I’m gonna keep on keeping on…like Kyle and Flossy. Btw….what’s the story behind Flossy’s trail name? I’m curious how people come up with their trail names. Do you have one Kyle? Perhaps I missed that info from another video?

You’re both adorable and being new to your channel I occasionally watch one of your older ones. I’ve not seen one of your “hiking” ones. It’s fascinating to watch your transformation from day one and on through the hike. I didn’t get the “through hiker” and you’ve helped me understand it’s just your “challenge”, your “beautiful nemesis”, your “spiritual journey”. I used to be a trail runner and long distance runner which lots of folks - other than us runners - just didn’t understand. Btw….you’re super goofy adorable and I love seeing you act like boys playing but obviously your challenging days you faced like men. That’s a beautiful combination for any male in my opinion. Hell….for ANYONE not just men. My apology for stupid thing to say 😂
I watched a video a day or two ago of yours Kyle on yellow blazing and didn’t feel like I should have an opinion since I’m a day hiker BUT…..I liken it to my marathon running days. If you cut through a short cut or grabbed a cab for part of the run and then ran across the finish line like a winner??? Well……not cool. Just own that you couldn’t quite do the whole thing. No judgement there…the judgement I feel is in the charade you just put on. Be real and as flossy says….don’t be a bitch 🙌😂❤

This is a brutal trail when it’s wet. The trail isn’t maintained well - blowdowns, tons of mud, overgrown trail, and decaying puncheon and decking.
Of course, the FB page for the trail makes it seem like it’s an awesome hike. Not so much in the rain, esp. with the limited scenic views along the route.
I did it in Sept. 2021 in 8 days, north to the train station. Surprised you didn’t talk about how poorly marked that 1300 ft climb is and the part where you’re basically climbing up an old creek bed.
That stretch on your last day between Cold River and Moose Pond Lean-to was the worst in terms of footing.
My feet were constantly wet and cold - immersion foot set in. Didn’t matter how many pairs of socks I would have brought due to all the flooded tail.
Lesson I learned was that the NPT during the wet season is no place for Lone Peaks - my feet would have faired a lot better in some sort of waterproof trail shoe or even, dare I say it, boots.
Not all bad. I loved all the red spotted newts and the fact that I saw, on average, two people on the trail per day - everyone is in the high country. The local hoteliers and businesses really support the hikers. I even had a kid working the register at the gas station offer to run home and get a pair of socks for me.

Well your channel name absolutely is as real and natural as it can be. No one need to ask why do you hate hiking, just watch this one vid. Too funny. Love how the camera just happens to be focused tactfully on Flossy at peak interest moments. Cold, wet, feet, anything takes away from the joy of any activity. Glad you succeeded in completion and had some moments in the sun. East coast always has likely rain chance. Sounds like you might need to explore out west sometime. Still check the weather.

Kyle thanks for the NPT memories, hiked the 36 mile section with my 10 yr old son from Lake Placid to Long Lake. He’s 21 now and loves hiking! You guys had tough weather, but that part of the Adirondacks is one of the most remote, beautiful forests around.A solo female hiker was followed and bluff charged by a couple young black bears on that trail. She reached out and cut one with her jack knife. They went running off and she hiked to the ranger station and reported the incident. It should be on the DEC website if you want to check it out.

Love the NPT! Section-hiked it (planned a thru, had an illness and an accident) in 2014/2015. Your video took me right back to it.
For such an easy trail, NPT is *hard*. It *always* rains there - except that I did about half my hike in October, and it was snow instead. You *will* wind up abandoning the trail somewhere and just bushwhacking because of the beavers. And the *mud*. Oh, lord, the *mud*.
I'd never do it in 8 days. That's because I'm slow. Really slow. Still, I'm damned near old enough to be your grandpa and still getting Out There, so I can't complain. Except that I do, all the time. :)
I'm curious. Almost everyone I know who's hiked it says that the section from Wakely Dam to Stephens Pond is soul-sucking somehow. It's not hard - it's one of the easiest bits of the trail - but somehow, everyone seems to want to quit while they're on it. And then the next day, I woke up at Stephens with a spring in my step, grabbed a quick shower at Lake Durant and just motored to Salmon River, and bounced over the ridge the next day as if it were nothing. Did you feel any of the spiritual problem with that section?
Anyway, you put a smile on my face almost as big as when I finished.

    • @KyleHatesHiking
      @KyleHatesHiking  3 года назад

I really enjoyed that section, mostly because the weather was nice while I went through there. It is a long section with no lean tos or way points, so if you aren't hiking fast then I can see how it would be tough.

HAHA, that was the most "Kyle Hates Hiking" ending you could have imagined. Dan Becker never would have messed up video at the end of the trail.
For reals though, the footage was gorgeous, and I'm sorry it rained and sucked so much. Other than the swampy beaver pond area, it looked like an amazing trail. Did you see anyone else on the long stretches outside of the park areas?

From Saranac Lake. Fun to see the trail from your eyes. Hard to break out the camera when tired. Great job.

been a fan since you posted on the 'hiking the adirondacks' facebook page quite a while back. live just outside Northville and do a lot of day hikes on the NP. Wish I had known when you were heading thru, you were a half mile from my home when you did the road walk out of N'ville. would love to have met you 2!
