Great to hear the echos in the canyon around this pinnacle. The echo is wonderful. People in the cities do not know what it is like to be in a wilderness free of cars, motors, and siren noises all the time. Your sounds are the only things you hear over the wind and natural sounds.

That post dyno scream brought back distinct feelings I’ve had while climbing. Nice work! Thanks for bringing us along on the adventure.

I remember doing the crux move with only a cam in the hole at your feet. But the elephant ear was also still there.

Ripped off a finger nail on that 5.10 overhang finger got stuck behind the rope when I fell still was able to pull off a free ascent. I think it was 2004. Jugging out of the basin was harder with no finger nail

The rock only recently lost its capstone of white rock. Probably only a few thousand years. Without the protective cover, the red rock withers away pretty quickly. The whole thing's got no more than a few thousands of years left probably. I used to know the names of every rock member and formation...Is the soft red shaly the Wingate? I can't remember...I haven't seen Standing Rock in years.

I am not a climber only a rock scrambler. This is sandstone and not granite. Sandstone seems much more forgiving than granite, it is like gripping sandpaper. I have rock scrambled on granite it can be very slippery and much worse when wet.
This is a spectacular climb. Many do not realize down climbing is worse than up climbing because you can not see the foot and handholds below from above. If you repel from above you leave hardware on the rock above loosing it forever. It is very nice to see techniques to retrieve rope and hardware from below after repelling below.

True story.... Timmy and Jake climbed this tower some 10 years ago or so. Terrified by the choss, manky bolts and a teetering tower in the wind they somehow managed a summit. Shivering in their boots on the summit they opened the elusive summit register. Upon opening said register Timmy found two pretty little pills left behind by one of our Soldiers. After digesting the goods and chilling on the summit for about 30 Minutes Timmy realizes what is happening. Pure Magic, Estacy, MDMA, Molly. In Meer seconds the fear disappeared into the clouds to be overwhelmed with euphoric joy, tribulation, and Love. Good Drugs, Full Moon, and one hell of a summit never to be repeated......

That was a high light. So amazing and quiet in there, great time of the year. So you can see it from the hi way? Loved the abseiling footage, very nice.

Wowza, talk about runout in the last pitch! Also wild dyno, that was awesome!
Also, what GoPro settings do you use? I’ve been experimenting with different FOVs and FPS but can’t seem to get the quality that you do!

It’s a poem Layton Kor recited when he first laid eyes on it. You can read the story in Beyond the Vertical.

I suppose you didn't retrieve the pizza in aluminum foil? If not you probably are responsible for wildlife ingesting the foil, which can be deadly.
