Having been one of the original bass music practitioners, it makes a lot of sense for Bassnectar AKA Lorin Aston to team up with dance music legends Underworld on their classic track "Rez". On February 12th, Om Records imprint Child's Play releases Bassnectar's remix of the cut, first put out by the seminal EDM group 20 years ago. "Rez" has had a special place in Ashton's heart for well over a decade as a memorable part of his early exposure to dance music.
"By the time I first heard 'Rez'...it was already a classic. It was the third 'rave' I had ever been to," says Ashton, "That was the only song I remembered from the entire night. And for years to come, whenever I hear any version or remix or even a slight fragment of that shimmering resonant arpeggiator I get flashbacks."
The Bassnectar remix adds mounds of thunderous bass to the track while still retaining its delicate and distinctive arpeggiated melody. The single is available on 180-gram vinyl with digital download, full color jacket sleeve and liner notes from Bassnectar and Underworld.

god i love the breakdown section at 2:16, those drums are immense! especially the snare and the long tail of the kick!

what he did was breath new life into a Track that in my oppion need and it gives the original some looking into so technically he is promoting the track

I dont think i said "music genre will never be the same" I just think there are some holy grails in music that you have to be amazingly talented to remix or remake. Stairway to Heaven? Imagine? Rez was pretty perfect on its own with out the mucking about. Of course some classics can be redone amazingly..Scissor Sister's cover of Uncomfortably Numb for instance

how do you work that one out? it seems only techno lovers think hes ruined rez and yet everyone else thinks its an epic remix, remember the original still exists! its not as if he got rid of the original and replaced it with this!

The original was boring stale repetitive crap when compared to this. Do you not hear progressive and subtle aspects? Are you insane or just really old and stuck back in the days of simple music.
Yeah it's easy to compare dubstep with random things to make it seem ridiculous. I don't deny that the "EDM" that has infested the mainstream has both rotted my ears and left people with the wrong impression of what this music really is. But you're trying to vilify Bassnectar for the sins of Guetta, Avicii, Skrillex, etc. and that's not really fair. This isn't nectar's most complex song but he puts more time and emotion into his work than most others. It's extremely sexy and 100% danceable!
How do you figure? This song is very popular, he's not "paying for" anything. Oye. I tried to take the in-depth, accepting route in this little debate but I guess I was damned from the start as long as I like it. "*music genre here* will never be the same" is probably the most aggravating opinion one can hold...

Nearly every older non-album underworld track was meant to be mixed and blended with their other tracks. Each track a raw ingredient for making a master culinary dish.
Rez/Cowgirl is a good example of this.

But go easy on labeling all Americans like that. I'm sure I would too if I didn't live the in the states but it seems inconceivable to Europeans that there are actually thoughtful, insightful people living in the USA. We're just the vast minority. Try these videos for better examples of deeply atmospheric bassnectar, not transformers having sex (lol) --> 5M-jOZRe0-8 and cigiLWtyxdI . Only scratches the surface of the genuine love he puts into his music.
half time/speed breakdown? well obviously! thats kind of what labels it as dubstep? and there are no overly harsh "man being tazed/two transformers having sex" sounds as you say, its just a distorted pad/string section and is for the wobble its low and relatively discreet, the song canhardly be considered a cliche! and your critisizing this but i could easy critisize how repetative the original song is! its the same arpeggio played over and over with a slight variation in the other elements!

its an over-abused, boring cliche that has made it on to Justin Bieber and Brittany Spears records.
I see why it appeals to American's so much..its just metal with electronic clothes on, lots of noise, aggression, totally sexless and mostly un-danceale
Popped over here because ppl were biggin up Bassnectar in a original REZ vid but this is trash.
While I do occasionally come across the odd half decent DS tune I've yet to be "educated" like so many Dubstep nuts keep telling us oldies.
If you want some techno go listen to techno. I seriously doubt this was made to please your standards of techno.
