I love Malacca, my Dad was stationed there 1959 to 61 at Terandak Barracks. My school camp was Terandak Barracks 1979 typical Army Brats ,jungle survival etc. I returned 2000, 2004 and wouild love to return again. I felt at home in Malacca for some strange reason.
What a lovely hotel - I'd love to visit Malaka and stay there someday! It reminds me of my favorite restaurant in San Francisco called Foreign Cinema where they project old foreign films with English subtitles on a huge wall in the outdoor garden.
AMAZING! In my 41 years of life, I have never seen the inside of this hotel before, because I do not need to have a stay there as I have my parents house. Wow... it really blew my socks away. Guess I have to make an exception some day. Thank you Andrew, you're the best!
Wow...that is a gorgeous hotel. I love all the -coffee- areas (love coffee). The tiles throughout are spectacular. The architecture is just stunning...🤩 Thank you for showcasing Taylor.
Thank you for this video Taylor! Love the ambience and will definitely try this hotel next time in this Unesco listed old city. Btw can you make videos on the green area and parks In KL?
Hi Taylo, It is so good that you came to Malaysia. Take care. Its hot! The Met said El Nino may have a powerful effect in June and July. Then temperatures will go up higher. Take care. ❤❤
Hello Taylor, I just checked the rates at the Baba Hotel. It is now nearly a year since you stayed there. The rates are now RM1,140 for three nights, an increase of over 60% over RM690!
@@andrewtaylor4558 Indeed. This is the topic for your next video, then: given the rising prices everywhere, what is your take on retiring to Malaysia in 2024? The world's currencies (even the crumbling US dollar) should still exist next year but after that, who knows?? Thanks for replying!
I’ve stayed at the Baba hotel, many years ago. It was nice. No Earl Grey? The Chinese are doing a huge off shore land reclamation off the coast of Melacca. It will massively change the area.
You were very lucky when you had such a cheap rate staying in the Baba House, now the room rates sky rocketed to RM580 per night for the most basic / cheapest room which I didn’t even find nice. And if you add breakfast, is additional RM140 for a pathetic spread of food. I’d rather go out and get better local food. 😂 Not to mention the pool on the roof is so shallow, it’s not even for swimming. It’s scorching hot for Melaka’s weather, it’s as good as a sun tanning roof. 😅 Anyway thanks for the video.
Free hotel stay in exchange for RUclips promo video? Or did you really pay the 600RM? ;) Also, friends aside, would you prefer to live in Malacca or Penang?
Oh my David, such a sceptic 😂 Yes, I paid for the room. I would have said if it was a paid endorsement. 😊 I’m not sure about Penang vs Melaka tho. I would need to visit Melaka more before making that decision. One point in its favour though is its proximity to KL. Much closer! 😊

Having grown up on the street, I'm glad that the enigmatic old building finally got refurbished. Glad you enjoyed the stay!
Wow, guess you have seen a lot of changes! 😊
@@andrewtaylor4558 yes over the years. I miss living there very much

I hope it doesn’t change too much. 😊

LOVE!!!
the only weak point for me is that the sound insulation of the their door is not good enough that I can clearly hear the noises from their corridor
Good point 😊
Where in Malaysia is Melaka? ❤
West coast 2 hours from KL
@andrewtaylor4558 Thank you. ❤️
