Thanks for this, saved me loads of money. I bought your starter kit and followed the instructions for resetting the black toner. Printer is printing again, there must be loads of toner left like you said. I'll watch the rest of this video when the toner actually runs out. Thanks a million for saving me money!
Just did a reset on the black toner Brother 3140CW with the reset wheel... And indeed, I can keep on printing again. Thanks mate, good video. For those struggling with the spring and resetwheel. Put in the spring but not yet over the elbow on the right. Insert the wheel and then tighten the spring on the elbow on the right. That worked for me.
Awesome, just had the black in needs replacing message. we decided to take a punt on this company so we placed an order. Received my goodies extremely quick. Screwdriver, mask, gloves, and everything else you would think you would spend time thinking that I need to go and find this and that to do this.... Looked at the instructions which look daunting and decided to play the video, 5 minutes later I had the spring in and the toner cartridge put back together. That was it. Done. printed out a test page. Perfect. Can't wait for the next instalment (well I can now as the cartridge still has toner in it!!! thanks Brother...............) Thanks
Just got my refill starter kit and bottles. Haven't had to refill yet though since I'm still in Reset-ville, Arizona no empties yet and the resets are working just fine!
Thank you so much! You're a life saver. I've spent tons on color toners when I rarely print, so now I know they've been robbing me :( I just replaced the yellow and it still kept saying to replace it, so this video saved me from a day of hassle. Thanks again!!!
Option without the wheel: open the printer lid with refilled cartridge installed, keep your printeron. Press both buttons Cancel and Secure together and select appropriate cartridge BK.TNR-STD, C.TNR-STD, M.TNR-STD, Y.TNR-STD to reset and press UP arrow to reset. No wheel needed.
I found that reply in a video especially for the 3170CDW. It seems to work for everyone else, but even although its the Cyan cartridge showing empty, it still only offers me black. It simply wont rotate through any other colours!
Just one tiny comment, you don't mention you have to press the green tab at the other end to release the toner transfer unit, to be able to get to the second screw, trivial I know, but had me going for a while. Also you should warn people to put the bit you are not working on (the selenium roller), on something soft, so it does not get scratched. I have now replenished about 10 times, & bought a 4 bedroom house with the money saved!
Thank you again. I did this a little while ago on my Brother HL-3140. Followed the full procedure with the trigger etc and a few months later when the toner was depleted I made the hole with the hot rod and filled it up. Everything worked well. That was >1 yr ago. My black toner is now again reporting 'toner low'. Can I simply order more black toner and simply refill through the existing slot?. Saying this I have already ordered 2 more toner refills so I am hoping that the answer is...yes - go for it.
Firstly, ignore the "toner low" message and do nothing Secondly, when you get the "Replace black toner" message, reset it with the trigger as you did before Thirdly, only put more toner in when the cartridge is truly empty. We know when because of complete fade out or that the cartridge weighs 361g
You sir, are the hero. I respect and admire your dedication, expertise and wit! And you are completely right about these huge companies. It's obvious they give not a jot about the earth or their customers. Profit is their driving force. Them claiming to be 'green' is a charade. What they are actually doing is downright criminal. I am with you, sir. (I sub'd!)
I love your clear and light-hearted examination of the Brother cartridge refill adventure! Thank you. I live in the U.S. Have had my printer one year and the black toner alert came on. Before I found your site, I found another set of Instructions on the web about resetting by lifting the cover, then clicking secure and xcancel at the same time (choosing the black toner option). Then shutting the cover, again. Clearly, this is very different than resetting by opening up the cartridge. Thoughts on this? I have the 3170-CDW. I'm good at DIY projects. And grateful there is a way around this scandalous refill situation. How can I get your kit, please? Will an adapter plug for Euro to US conversion work on your hole burner? Thank you, Cathy
Great video, thanks. I noticed that the Starter cartridges do not have a small white gear that turns the reset gear - while the reset gear fits on the Starter cartridge, there's nothing to turn it. Do you know whether simply adding your reset gear to a Starter cartridge would be enough to convince the printer that it is a TN-221 (2,200 page yield) and not a Starter cartridge (~1,000 page yield)? My problem is that even after refilling the Starter cartridges with your toner, they still get sensed as a Starter cartridge and the printer complains early about them being empty.
Fantastic video! I just reset all 4 colours. this is going to save both myself and the environment. thanks for doing this. Do you happen to know how to reset the Toner Waste message. I can empty the WT 220CL box, but it still gives the error?
Don't know if this is a region based thing but in the US we don't have a MFC-9140 (an all in one printer with the bells and whistles) we have the MFC-9130. You wouldn't happen to know if these are two in the same thing?
For the Brother HL-3140CW printer that i am looking at, they are selling a rainbow pack of ink for the same price that you are selling the rainbow toner package on your website. Would i still save money over time by resetting the cartridges and refilling manually? Thank you
How good are your aftermarket toner? Wouldn't it damage the drum over time due to quality issues? I've had aftermarket toner before and it all destroyed the imaging rollers on my toner cartridges.
You say toner refills can be as much as 15k prints or 10-15 refills per cartridge before the cartridge (developer roller?) bites the dust and/or your drum needs servicing/replacing. However, seen other consensus that maybe as little as 3-5 refills per cartridge are possible.. which is closer to the truth, or does the QUALITY of the toner power make the difference here? In my case I'm askiing about tn-221 / tn-225's starter (MINGY, lol) //vs std cartridges.
I live in the UK and I just bought a used Brother HL 3140CW. I need to order a starter kit because I started to get tonner low warning. However the exact part in the video where we need to make a hole (I presume) is missing. Is there a way to refill it without making that hole?
Yeah sorry about the missing bit. I've reverted it to the original video, see the bit you missed here ruclips.net/video/ccS-yGhM2a8/видео.htmlsi=YTVRR5OJjO-Tkgzd&t=419 But bear in mind, we haven't got that electric melter any more - that's why we chopped it out of the vid. My HL-3170CDW I can reset from the control panel. But to refill I would need the reset cog installed, correct? When are you going to be shipping to the US? Also I have to buy a waste box when it's full, can't just dump it and do a reset or something?
>>But to refill I would need the reset cog installed, correct? Not necessarily. We found the "soft reset" to be unreliable at best, and at worst, does not apply to some engines and firmware versions. But if you find the soft reset works for you, you an use it
I refilled the toner cartridges in a Brother MF C250DN and for awhile it was working ok, but now the yellow toner is leaking out from the cartridge and turning everything yellow. My refilled from the end that I had to screw off and it was working fine so it appears that the cartridges go bad from more than normal use unless there is something else going on that I don't understand. Any suggestions?
telltale sign your running out of toner... grey bar or streaks on printed pages.. happened to me @ about 2250 pages.. so slight until it gets noticeable then toner refill is due
I have the HL 3170 CDW. Ever since 1st refilled the toner, the prints are terrible quality. And there is excessive toner leaking out in the unit. Any ideas as to what that is?
Only TN 241 and 245 are available in the UK. The toner powder is, of course, compatible. The only issue is whether the reset wheels will reset your machine. You should check the starter cartridges and see if they look the same as in our video. Also, you might be able to reset with a "soft" (i.e. button-pressing) method of which there are many RUclips videos. Although, this did not work very well for our printers in the UK
The printer in our video here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230BOTB&price=14.00&description=Black+toner+refill+bottle+45g%2c+3K+yield&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw&id=2983&weight=75 uses the same cartridges as yours. Also, try the RESET method described www.urefilltoner.co.uk/how-to-reset/HL-L3210cw-HL-L3230cdw-HL-L3270cdw-DCP-L3510cdw-DCP-L3550cdw.aspx to try and get more value from your cartridges. Resetting also required before putting more toner in because you must not refill on top of any residual toner
How do I know how much cartridge to put into the toner before its overspills? I say this because I want to do this with a starter cartridge which came with the printer.
***** Just refill until the toner starts to spill out of the cartridge and won't get in. However, it's always a good idea to keep a bit of empty space.
That's a judgement call. U Refill Toner goes with the wheels because it is 100% reliable for all models. And future-proofed, since it imitates original cartridge behaviour which it would be very difficult for the manufacturer to change.
We've had a go at the new HL-L32 family in the video you'll find here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230BOTB&price=14.00&description=Black+toner+refill+bottle+45g%2c+3K+yield&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw&id=2983&weight=75
Got a question. I refilled a black cartridge. Now there is a light black haze that covers the whole piece of paper. I almost couldn't see it until i compared it to a plain piece of paper and i compared it to a different brand new black cartridge. So what's happening? I assume it's because i refilled it.
Usually happens if you refill on top of residual toner in the cartridge. Which is why our method proceeds by NOT refilling until you have confirmed fade out of a certain colour by printing the swatch. All details in the video
You have probably been asked a few times but I don't see an answer on your website, so...Do you have a hole burning iron for our lower voltage power here in the States? I'm about 98% ready to buy the black starter kit and 1 each of the colour bottles. The 2% wants to know about the iron. Thanks heaps.
Greg. Sorry, but urefilltoner.co.uk has no service to the States. While in the US, though, I did melt a hole with our tool by heating the end with a disposable cigarette lighter. Just to be clear, it doesn't "burn", which would imply flames. It melts the plastic.
U Refill Toner Thank you for your prompt reply! I will now be looking for a supplier of the reset wheels, springs and plugs on this side of the pond. I think I can figure out how to melt the hole with a soldering iron and an some sort of properly sized attachment.

Do you ship to Greece? Well, I am "Europe" - but am I "most of it"? :-) btw. I have a 3172CDW... Toner suposed to be the same?! The "Toner-Reset" I do by Printer-Menu
No problem shipping to Greece. Just put what you want in the shopping cart and then click the Greek flag. But I'm not sure about the 3172cdw - it's never been sold by Brother in the UK : at least not yet anyway. So at the moment, it would be up to you to make that call, based on the appearance of the original cartridges and their codes. In the UK, the codes for the HL-3170 are TN-241BK, TN-241C, TN-241M, TN-241CY, TN-245C, TN-245M, TN-245Y
I just got a 3170cdw brand new and it's printing 2 vertical lines 4 inches apart that aren't fused in the printed area and trailing some misc dots shmutz in the lines in the non printed area. I tried wiping the leds, the corona wires, and used a qtip to wip the areas of every toner drum. No luck. In your test picture the line goes vertical through all color bars. Using the cymk rectangle test brother gives I get the same two vertical unfused lines. Any ideas? I called brother and they eventually said they'd have to send my case to someone higher up that may know the printer. Could it be a dirty fuser? Any help would help! I need to print!
These 2 vertical lines. Do you mean lines created by a presence of toner where actually it shouldn't be? Or an absence of toner where you actually would like it to be? Our swatch is meant to detect fade out - a total absence of toner in one of the cartridges. Failure to fuse the toner to the page (which you mention) is a different issue. Taking the 30,000 ft high view: brand new printer not working properly. I would claim on the warranty and force the vendor/manufacturer to sort it out for me.
I found a service center near me and someone actually made a house call and verified that the fuser was damaged had two slight gouges in it. So every print had vertical lines where the toner wasn't fusing. Brother is sending the part and will pay the guy to repair it, but I'm stuck another week. Too bad I wasted so many printed pages going through their instructions for cleaning the leds, corona wires and drums and test printing.
Please get in touch through this URL www.urefilltoner.co.uk/contactform.aspx Please state exact delivery address and what you want. We will respond accordingly if we can.
Steven Make sure you take the toner cartridge out of its drum unit assembly by pressing on the green lock lever. Page 112 of the PDF user manual has a picture support.brother.com/g/b/manuallist.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=hl3150cdw_eu&flang=English&type3=121&type2=5#SelectLanguageType-121
why is one color orange instead of pink? on all my color printers laser and ink the colors were black cyan (or royal blue) Magenta (or as I call it pink) and yellow.
It has to be orange for the swatch to do what we want it to do. You can't actually tell the printer to just print from the magenta cartridge. If you could, I agree, it would look pink
I need help with brother hl-3170cdw. Earlier I was able to reset it through the printer by pressing the X and the Back Button. However now even after reset it won't reset toner level.
If the target cartridge has a reset wheel, turn it back to the "loaded" position. If the target cartridge hasn't got a reset wheel, add a reset wheel to it in the "loaded" position: both explained in the video

Yes. See the video here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230BOTB&price=13.50&description=Black+toner+refill+bottle+45g%2c+3K+yield&engine=BRL3230&printer=DCP-L3510cdw%2c+DCP-L3550cdw&id=2983&weight=75#jumpToVideo
We haven't got any toner for the Brother MF C250DN, so what toner did you use to refill?
telltale sign your running out of toner... grey bar or streaks on printed pages.. happened to me @ about 2250 pages.. so slight until it gets noticeable then toner refill is due
Thank u! Do u know if the newer hl-l3270 also work the same?
I don't know at the current time. We've only just got the HL-3270 into our lab for analysis
I have the HL 3170 CDW. Ever since 1st refilled the toner, the prints are terrible quality. And there is excessive toner leaking out in the unit. Any ideas as to what that is?
Is it the urefilltoner.co.uk product?

i do everithing like you, but my printer dont print in black wath can i do?
Hi. This procedure is similar for Brother HL-L3210CW? Thank you
See here for how to reset and refill the HL-L3210 family

@@urefilltonerUK Thank you
In our country we only have HL 3150DCN and the toners are TN 261 and 265 for high yield. is it compatible with this one? thanks
I have an 'HL L3210 CW' from Argos would this refill method work?
The printer in our video here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230BOTB&price=14.00&description=Black+toner+refill+bottle+45g%2c+3K+yield&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw&id=2983&weight=75
uses the same cartridges as yours.
Why do you have to BURN A HOLE in the cart? Isn't there a port in the side to add toner?
We're suggesting you melt it. We don't expect anything to catch fire hahahaha. Port in the side extremely awkward to refill into when we tried it
nice. thank you
How do I know how much cartridge to put into the toner before its overspills? I say this because I want to do this with a starter cartridge which came with the printer.
***** Just refill until the toner starts to spill out of the cartridge and won't get in. However, it's always a good idea to keep a bit of empty space.
Nahiyan Alamgir Thanks for the reply :)
do I need the reset wheels for starter cartridges for the 3170 since the toners can be reset by the printer control panel?
That's a judgement call. U Refill Toner goes with the wheels because it is 100% reliable for all models. And future-proofed, since it imitates original cartridge behaviour which it would be very difficult for the manufacturer to change.
You still doing this? Any tips on the new version of the 3170, the HL-L3270CDW that brother removed the ability to reset toner (AH's)?
We've had a go at the new HL-L32 family in the video you'll find here www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL3230BOTB&price=14.00&description=Black+toner+refill+bottle+45g%2c+3K+yield&engine=BRL3230&printer=HL-L3210cw%2c+HL-L3230cdw%2c+HL-L3270cdw&id=2983&weight=75
Hi. I bought a brother printer Hl-3150dn and its toner doesn`t have reset gear. It is normal?
I hope an answer please!
Yes. The reset wheels are missing from the cartridges that arrive with the new machine. That's why we put 4 of them in the black Starter Kit
Hello, can I ask if this kit is compatible with Brother HL 3150CDN model? Many thanks.
Yes, you can. And yes, it is
Got a question.
Also, the toner has to be the right stuff
My brother HL - 3210 CW is Brand New, not yet in the Situation to refill it, but will you also take them nto your Collection?

Do you ship to Greece?
Well, I am "Europe" - but am I "most of it"? :-)
btw.
In the UK, the codes for the HL-3170 are
TN-241BK, TN-241C, TN-241M, TN-241CY, TN-245C, TN-245M, TN-245Y
I can see where to login. But how do I register? I have already subscribed.

If you mean on our internet shop, you can only "register" as you place a real order. Which I hope you will do soon
Hello, how many times can i refill a original toner? And, if i buy a rebuild toner, how many times can i refill that one??
On the average, 3 times for an original. If it's already a rebuild, hard to say: depends on the quality of the rebuild
esse sistema de recarga funcionaria nos modelos HL-3140CW?

Make sure you take the toner cartridge out of its drum unit assembly by pressing on the green lock lever. Page 112 of the PDF user manual has a picture

U Refill Toner yep figured that out eventually ( when I took it out ). Brought your kit and happily printing away again .
:( when I open the toner , I don't have anything inside to me move and put load position.. my is HL-3170CDW.. what I do ???
Well, if you mean that it's a starter cartridge and therefore has no reset wheel, I cover that issue at some length in the video
why is one color orange instead of pink? on all my color printers laser and ink the colors were black cyan (or royal blue) Magenta (or as I call it pink) and yellow.
@@urefilltonerUK Where can I get the reset wheel? I am using the starter cartridges. Thanks
