Last year I ordered 4 Asian bareroot persimmons and all of them died back to the root stock. Now I am going to graft onto the root stock sprouts with Asian persimmon scions. I figure it was an expensive learning experience that leads me to doing grafting.
I got one persimmon off of my ichi ki kei jiro this year. Haven't picked yet, but it's gotten soft on the tree already. The tree only about 3' tall, and in a 3 gallon pot (got it from Edible Landscaping early this year). It set probably 6 or 7 fruit this spring but most dropped. Will probably pick up a few more trees this upcoming year (Saijo, an american / hybrid, and probably another jiro or fuyu type) . I'll probably keep my persimmons potted. I have space in the yard for one tree but I'm not sure it'll be a persimmon that I plant there.
I've lost about 4-5 bare root Persimmon trees, agree, they don't like to be bare root or their roots cut and abused; roots can be cut but need to be planted in soil asap; better to buy them in soil
Thanks so much for this video... I, too, planted two bare root persimmonsss received two months ago and they have not leafed out yet. I thought it was just me. I think they{re dead.
They take a long time to leaf out and you really need to water them a lot to leaf out; I have one that has not leafed out yet (others fr same nursery died, nursery matters), I decided to water it daily and a lot and it's now July and finally starting to form little bumps
I had that same problem with 3 plum trees. Then about three years ago I had a small bucket of left over 8-8-8 , calcium nitrate, and regular miracle grow fertilizers that I wanted to get rid of. It was probably all in all about 3 to 5 lbs. I mixed them up in a bucket and broadcast it out under the plum trees. Since that time I have had a heavy crop of plums and none have dropped off.
Where can I find a persimmon plant, that can grow in Greenville Mississippi, they are not sold here, I have them shipped from California but want to grow my on, I like the ones you eat hard I think it fuyu astringent
@@MsLinjohn Have you priced trees lately Starks and others are selling fruit trees that are about a foot tall for $70. Ive gotten trees from JFE that are 4 foot and huge caliber
My first black Madeira’s keep cracking from the eye sooo much is there any chance I can leave them to hang on the tree for a few more days there not split super wide open but you can see the interior and I do have them bagged so the fruit flies can reach in there, and suggestions or as soon as I can see the interior like 1/3 of the interior do I just have no choice but to pick early or with a period of time before fermentation

I've had no problems with bare root persimmon trees. I live in the Houston area and I have the hachiya, Saijo, Giombo and fuyu varieties.
I too have had bad luck with bareroot persimmons. Won't order them ever again. That said, the live trees from Stark Bros have done well.

I'm moving soon, I'm looking to plant a persimmons this spring, what variety do you recommend and from where? 1/17/22
Would Prok survive in zone 4? I'm desperate to grow persimmon but it seems all of them only go to zone 5. I'm willing to give it extra protection.
Try it!

Dried kaki tastes like pumpkin pie but better. In my opinion dried persimmon is so much better than fresh.
Thanks for sharing.
I have ichi kiro about 6 years old ,get a great fruit set and then loses almost all fruit last year only 2 fruit stayed , this year lost all fruit .

Can you grow a hychia persimmon in container indoors? Im in zone six dont want to risk outdoors.
Honestly, because of their strong roots which like to grow out, Persimmons need to be planted on ground
@@MsLinjohn Thank you!
@@Mary-uc9vn but Persimmons can truly handle outdoors, do American/Asian hybrid or just American like Prok, Yates, etc so many improved varieties
@@MsLinjohn Thank you for that info. I will definitely look into it.
where can I buy Texan Persimmon tree or seeds?
Texas, I’m guessing….
How does a persimmon taste
Go to a Asian supermarket and buy some because it is hard to describe to people how it taste.

Say-joe is spelled Saijo.
Nakita's Gift is the english version of Nikitskaya Bordovaya, which is the second one you mentioned.
