New Bridges in the Port Lands

- In January 2024, new roads and bridges opened in the Port Lands. The Port Lands Flood Protection project is creating a new island by digging a new mouth for the Don River. The new island required new bridges to connect it to the rest of the city. This video looks back on how the family of iconic bridges came to be.

I love when I can just SCOOSH things into place!
The bridges are beautiful and iconic, great job!
We do have to get you some better royalty free tracks though!
The time lapse was very cool. So exciting! We keep getting closer to completion.
Absolutely love these videos! Thanks for keeping us informed. Clearly prepared and delivered with care.
Aside from the transit bridge, I've cycled across all of them numerous times last summer and fall. The design is definitely eye catching.
You must be a construction worker then, since the new bridges only opened a few days ago...
@@BrianTao Nope, I worked as a construction worker in the 80's as a summer job.
I should have said I cycled across all of the open bridges which is either three or four.
@@BrianTao I should have said "all of the open bridges" and I had summer jobs in construction while in university in the '80's.
looking forward to heading over to check them out later on today :)
Congratulations on the opening of the new bridges.

Love to see the initial sketches and how it all came together!!
Excited to ride the new Cherry Street.
Fantastic design
I didn't realize the bridges were assembled and shipped from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It must have been quite a sight to see them motor up the St Lawrence River and through the locks. I can't wait to visit them and the new river mouth this summer.
Me to
Scooch! Just a scoche.
What about the keating channel pub
They're not being displaced.
Thanks @Briantao
Will Cherry Street have another bridge to replace that one a few meters away?
Those bridges are definitely not my style.
White with a bright colour inside?
only a matter of time until the street takeovers happen on this bridge.
Girl get a new mic
A great way to burn through tax payers money.
A river diversion was needed in order to prevent flooding that occurred due to the unnatural 90 degree bend of the Keating Channel/Don river mouth, hence the creation of the new island. Bridges are needed to cross rivers (obviously) so this isn't some useless vanity project.
@@CzedYman , is that how they're spinning it? Let it flood, they shouldn't have developed in that area, its a natural floodplain, mounts of rivers are estuaries and shouldn't be tampered with, especially those Canadians, they're clueless over there. My cousin lives in Canada and they just work to pay taxes over there... it's pretty much totalitarian now in Canada from my understanding, in a way.
