    Each photo & video described.
These videos are meant to be educational but also funny, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
    0:00 Intro
0:05 A connecting rod busted through the oil pan. The technician just had this happen and is not sure what is the exact issue that caused this to happen. Very unfortunate to happen on a new car that the customer just bought.
0:27 Shop declined to work on this vehicle once they saw the rusted-out sub-frame was held with chains.
0:34 Two missing sub-frame bolts. This was on an Audi (the technician didn't mention what model). The customer also didn't mention which shop it was at and what work they did to it. The technician thinks maybe they were left loose and came out while the customer was driving.
0:43 The technician advised the customer to bring it to the scrap yard as it was unsafe to drive and would need a lot of work which would cost a lot more than the value of the car.
0:58 The technician said: "1999 Buick Park Avenue came in for overheating concern due to the intake manifold leaking coolant. No mentions of this problem or the several other issues this car had (including a completely shattered windshield, loose wheel bearings, dragging splash shields, and burnt-out lights) and the customer only wanted to fix the leak and declined all other repairs."
1:10 2015 Toyota Prius. The display to show fuel level, speed, and what gear you are in is projected on the instrument cluster. A little different compared to the typical instrument cluster.
1:22 Why it's very important to get an inspection done before purchasing any vehicle. This vehicle ideally needs a new frame or a lot of money spent correctly fixing it. The customer unfortunately got ripped off.
1:42 Exactly how it drove in. The customer said they never expected it or got it inspected beforehand.
1:48 Looks like a burnout gone bad. A piece of the rear differential (ring gear or pinion gear) must have broken off and gone through the differential cover.
2:01 The technician said: "A whole bunch of wiring lit on fire lol I should've taken pictures once I tore it apart. I immediately disconnected the battery after that video, then took out the glovebox and found they had robbed power from the HVAC blower module. Which was fine, until the a/c drain got stopped up and water shorted the wiring(they didn't use a fuse a tapped into the panel on the unfused side)." It came in for an air suspension issue, so the vehicle was idling in the shop and that's when smoke appeared.
2:13 Never seen this before! But this is what happens when you don't replace your brakes when you need to. Could have just needed new brake pads, but now a wheel, caliper, rotors, pads, and a tire.
2:27 The shop had to get a new clutch installed.
2:42 The battery is located on the passenger side in the trunk.
2:49 This is not the correct way to try and fix a wiring issue. A fuse should always be replaced with what the manufacturer recommends. Check your owner's manual!
2:59 The customer's insurance company covered all of the costs of the damages. The case has been closed for a while now so that's why the clip was shared with us.
    3:17 Outro. Thanks for watching!

We don't know what what the seller knew or didn't know. We don't know if the problem just occurred on the drive home.
The real issue here is manufacturing. It only had 1300 miles on it. What could possibly go wrong at 1300 miles? That is utterly ridiculous. Something is afoot since post covid production in manufacturing and or engineering and I've seen many on this channel. I bought a used Toyota with 20K on the clock and didn't have it inspected with no problem. What could go wrong with a Toyota at 20K? Nothing back then. Vehicles are breaking in unprecedented numbers, It reminds me of bad manufacturing in the 70s and early 80s.

I used to work at a quick lube station, and we were pretty busy all the time so corporate kept our standards and training high as we were their poster boy in the state. I do damn good inspections and know everything I’m looking at.
I have had many situations in which I’m telling the customer how dangerous their car is to drive, and they’re usually too poor to fix it. So I just tell them straight up, “I say this because I’m very concerned for your safety, everyone in the car with you, and others on the road around you: this car is dangerous and about to fail at any moment, probably while you’re moving. The cost of fixing only half the problems would be twice it’s worth just to make it stop okay. You should instead find another car on the marketplace which is cheap but safe, nothing special. The sooner the better.”
They usually don’t like the bad news but appreciate the honesty. I can relate because I’ve been poor and driven dangerous cars, also wasted a lot of money on them, so I tell the customer as much. Even if you spend money hopping from one rust bucket to another as they fall apart behind you, it’s better than being in it when it croaks on the free way.

In terms of the new corvette engine going bad after 1,300 miles…. I have a funny story to retell.
In aviation class out teacher was explaining destructive and non-destructive testing on aircraft parts.
One such test was “dye test” where you check an aircraft crank shaft with a specific dye to look for ANY cracks in a crankshaft.
One crack fails a aircraft engine crank shaft. It’s now an expensive paperweight.
Welp. Teacher had a friend come to our school, he had just bought a new crankshaft for his fancy corvette, and wanted to see how it faired in a aviation test.
Welp. That thing literally “lit up like a Christmas Tree” it had so many hairline cracks in it.
His buddy was NOT happy, teacher could NOT stop laughing.
Let’s just say aviation parts are so freaking expensive because the manufacture and maintenance standards are so high.
If cars were treated just like aircraft in terms of scheduled maintenance, inspections, and manufacturing, they would easily last 20 years each on average.

The “customer declined all repairs” people are why here in the Netherlands every car needs to be checked over every few years and certified to be able to legally be driven, and the police do randomly check people on that so you can’t even sneakily get away with it

    • @AlvinBrinson
      @AlvinBrinson Год назад +5

The difference between an inspection like that and impounding someone's car is that generally if you're getting the car inspected, you are going to a government licensed shop which has to follow certain standards in most countries. They're not going to "make shit up" just to con a customer into getting repairs. On top of that, when you take your car in for an inspection, you're saying it's ready for the inspection. You wouldn't take it to the inspector on its last legs and expect to drive away.
On the other hand, you WOULD take a car on its last legs to a mechanic looking for repairs. Expecting to have your car repaired for one problem, and then being slammed with a surprise bill for 2x or 10x the cost (or being told your car is irreparable) is a shock to most people, and many people simply can't afford to make those repairs on a moment's notice. Often they're hoping for a simple, inexpensive fix, and the added cost of a tow-truck bill does not fit in the budget. Frequently in cases like this "declined all repairs and drove away" in reality isn't denial, it's simply one last drive to park the car at HOME until they can figure out what to do next - either save money for the proper repair, or decide to buy a new car. If you don't have the money for the repair, leaving the car at the mechanic's shop is essentially the same as signing the title to the car over to the mechanic for free. Most people are not going to do that.
Not to mention how many dishonest shops out there will inflate the actual cost of a repair many times, and then act indignant when someone doesn't want to or cannot pay their inflated price. This happens so often (at least in the US) that many people are understandably gunshy about paying high repair bills without some "time to think about it".
Shops need to get off the attitude of making fun of people who choose not to make a costly repair. Chances are they cannot afford it, and in MOST of these cases, the car will soon be parked - permanently.

Not the police, if the car does not have a valid inspection (expired or failed) the RDW (comparable to DMV) has all inspections registered centrally and will just keep sending fines to your house. Many mechanics just plug in the OBD2 and run the inspection to print a sticker without checking the rest of the car. I had my cars inspected by a guy who told me he passed any car as long as it had no codes and looked like it was taken care of (never put it on a lift) after I commented that it was fast, literally, in and out. I went to another guy after I bought an old Cherokee XJ and was glad he had it on the lift for the inspection. He let me know that I had to start thinking about getting new u-joints because they were rusting up. It was nice to learn about it while it was a job I could do myself cheaply, before it became an expensive job I couldn't do myself.
