It's so cool that Dart Zone loved your review so much that they wanted to see what you could do to maximize performance. I doubt they'll make a stock blaster that'll hit that hard, but it gives them insight on what modders will do and what their customer base wants.
they said in the podcast that legally they CAN'T let it hit harder because over 200fps+ it becomes an airsoft gun (and that has a lot of different paperwork and can't be sold to under 18 year olds)
@@legomeaker101potato That's rather interesting, and it does make sense. I'm guessing that's why they build their blasters to be relatively easy to mod.
I remember back when 300+ FPS was only achievable with something like Drac's pressure sniper, which could fire a dart like once per 15 seconds. Now we have this absolute lunacy, which can do a similar powered shot like 2 times a second! Ridiculous! Buuuut extremely cool.
Exactly! Imagine if it's, like, a huge sniper rifle-looking blaster, probably the one that looks like Barrett 50 cal, that hits 120 FPS with low power spring and up to 300-350 FPS with high power spring? Maybe it can take full-length darts and half-darts, and can shoot mega darts, rival rounds, and ultra rounds from the muzzle like Nexus Pro? I would kill for that.
So people were pointing out the similarities between the internals of the DZP Mk 4 and those of the Worker Swift...and now I'm inclined to believe that may have been intentional. Dart Zone might have made that design decision because they wanted it to work with components that already exist on the aftermarket!
I have even more respect for dartzone now. The fact that they wholeheartedly accepted that their blaster could be better and did even better then just making it better themselves and re-releasing it. They paid *you* to make it better so people at home could follow along. Absolute. Effing. Legends!
Most powerful springer on the channel so far is the mega dart sniper thing that was on here. 220fps with a mega accustrike dart (2.6g) is 4.34 lb/ft 355 with a short dart (1g) is 4.13 lb/ft So it narrowley beats the MK4 out. Impressive numbers nonetheless, really brings home what you said in the original vid about the plunger volume being the same as the Swift, as the Swift with the 1.8 spring was good for 360fps as well, mine dod it with the standard metal plunger though. Slap an 18kg spring in the M20 you got kicking around there somewhere and you'll be up around 370 though, without having to break out the dremel. 😂
@@shatteredskies191 in which case the gap is considerably bigger between the two, and the Ranger (I think it's called) will be possibly over 400fps on a single short dart, assuming the re-barreling doesn't cause power loss.
Dart Zone is the best company ever. If you'd have asked me pre nexus pro I'd have said we'd never be able to buy short darts at a retail store. If you'd have asked me three days ago if a company would sponsor a mod video I would have passed myself laughing and asked if you were crazy. I'm now passing myself with amazement.
On a side note: we NEED to make a regulated fan competition that makes room for >500 FPS shooting blasters. The hobby may be getting to a point where hitting 100 - 150 FPS is starting to be poor performance (and standard propietary Nerf guns are basically kids initiation to the hobby, or Veterans platform for modifications).
I personally don't like this escalation in the hobby. The higher the FPS cap, the higher the barrier of entry. Imagine some eleven-year-old showing up to a battle with a stock Motoblitz and getting trashed by some adult with a modded DZP Mk.2, that wouldn't be much fun. Yeah, you could give them a loaner to even the playing field, but do we really want kids running around with 200 FPS blasters? That said, with the increasing controversy around actual firearms, and seeing some of those tactical trends trickle into the hobby, maybe it's best if foam blasting is just for adults after all 😥
@@BoardGamesBricksHobbies hence why I pointed out the word "regulated", meaning that in the competition itself a high FPS is allowed, however (at least in my point of view) that doesn't mean we're going to bunch them altogether; of course we need to classify them properly so that there's, for example, a 70-100 FPS bracket, a 101 - 150 bracket, a 151 - 200 bracket and so on so there's little to no necessity of intentionally downgrading the FPS of a blaster. And of course this inherently means putting an age restriction cap on certain FPS levels.
@@elementxxrider Understood. I just remember the first time I went to an event (which was as an adult, I might add) nobody communicated any of that to me. So I showed up with my stock Nemesis and got wrecked by people using NIC-style blasters and half darts. It was not a very welcoming initial exposure to the community.
@@BoardGamesBricksHobbies certainly understandable. But no worries, if we happen to do such an event I'll try to see to it that it gets proper and fair regulations so that every blaster wielder has a fair chance of winning regardless of the FPS.
It's like this in all the gun sports. Paintball airsoft. Technology improvements. When adults with money are playing they generally have the best gear on the field in any sport really but in these games it give a huge advantage. It is what it is. I always just got decent stuff second hand to even the playing field a lil bit. Kids play paintball too and the usual limit is 300fps
Generally, springer tuning is just making sure you arent completely solid in the back with the spring, and slowly chopping an inch or so of material until you stop getting performance gains/start loosing fps. The scar makes up a bit for your FPS loss on tuning because of the small barrel length increase, despite friction from the rifling.
Hey Walcom, are you keeping track of the score your blasters get on your indoor range? I actually think it's a very nice metric to measure similar types of blasters together, or at least against the top dogs. Pretty sure this modded MK 4 is one of the highest I've seen!

Thanks for this video. My Mk4 was getting a consistent 170 ish fps in stock form with cheap worn darts. After a barrel swap to a much longer barrel, a plastic plunger, and heavier spring I am in the 290 zone. I installed a Worker Mod 550 Aluminum Tube with 1.6 Spring for Swift Blaster and a worker swift plunger rod. I did not use special lube nor did I drill the hole like you did. I am curious how much I would lose if I shorten this barrel as it is a bit too long in my opinion for practical use.
Nice to see DZ actually paying you to max out their offering. All things considered, I'll stick wiht my swift though. Reasons? Cheaper, especially living in the uk as I do. Better Aesthetics, (though that's personal choice of course), and finally, all I had to do was swap the o-rings, put the longer barrel and 1,8 spring in to hit 330fps max. Oh, I would take issue wiht the "lighter plunger=higher fps" idea. Jury's out on that. Anecdotally, my brassed Sentinel went from 170 to 230 when I had to replace the last part of the plunger with an aluminium replacement. Science to be done there. Maybe try the MK4 with the original plunger? I'd put money on higher performance.
I'd really like them to release an updated muzzle extension that could connect to itself if you had two or more so you could just get an obnoxiously long barrel much like Coop did with all the modulas barrels.
