  • When reassembling the pushrod - it needs to be greased (important). Removing the grease from the pushrod made the oil leak much worse. Some time later I got small pot of red rubber grease (which is thicker than normal grease) and that seems to reduce the oil leakage even better. The worn pushrod seal and bush still needs replacing though because there is a lot of sideways play.

I had that problem my Jawa 350. I wrapped a single layer if ptfe tape round the rod, just enough to make it a snug fit. The leak's not 100% cured but greatly reduced.

@@gilesrich72 yes, but it's not as good as a proper fix as even a tiny leak is really annoyin. Tried getting the old seal out by screwing in a 6mm thread then yanking out but it wouldn't grip (hole too big) so tried .25 inch which is 6.35mm and it did grip but the seal simply wouldn't budge. Sixty quid you paid sounds like a steal.

Hey man, got same problem with my GS500. I was thinking if I just stuff a bit of gasket maker around the seal when I put the rod back in would solve the problem. I'm from Pakistan and parts for it just do not exist here, imports are horribly taxed and priced for me. Mine's 2004 GS500

      Did the gasket seal work?

not sure if this is relevant anymore. I am also from Pakistan and after watching many videos, there is a retainer clip on top of the pushrod seal that is missing here as well. Do look up shoogly shed videos for much better understanding
