Even this pasty white girl from California grew up hearing this song. Miriam Makeba would be so proud of Angelique. What a timeless song.
She was not lying when she said if you don’t know the song, you weren’t living on earth. Used to hear this song very long time ago in Haiti 🥰🥰🥰
This is so freaky!! To my very close friends, I am Dee and am posted in Haiti presently!! I flipped when I saw your comment!!
Dee M she is beautiful
I knew this song when I was Haiti
I had the privilege of seeing Myriam Makeba singing that song when my parents were in Guinea Conakry where Mrs Makeba was in exile.
Dee M heard and danced on it in Mauritius
This song was a hit in Puerto Rico when I was a teenager! I'm now 60.
Yh me too
Miriam Makeba
We partied to this in high school in South-Afrika - Miriam Makeba
A lot of countries never exposed their school children to other world cultures unfortunately.

The cute little White girl rocking this song like an old soul 🙏🏽😊 music is love and has no color!!
Fantastic. Keeping Miriam alive. Thank you Angelique. Getting through breast cancer in London with difficult marriage and this song played and remembered on bbc radio 4 today has brought me so much joy today.
I get that!
Not only is her voice fantastic, but her dancing and stage presence both are also second to none!
I adore this and Ms Makeba's performance. RUclips's auto translation identified the language as "Native". Native what? I'll bet if she were singing in French, it wouldn't have been identified as "native." By the way, I think it is sung in Xhosa.
Thankyou legendary Mama Africa Miriam Makeba from South Africa original owner of this wonderful song!!! Thankyou Angelique for keeping the light burning
PATA PATA was written by her friend Dorothy Masuka. She wrote many songs for Miriam Makeba.

It’s such a great song. Only this woman does not pronounce it right. This song is a Xhosa song, and should be song with a “click” sound.

Wonderful! Move Your Body! October 2020
Maman Angélique est incroyable, artiste renommée. Soit béni
My first encounter was in the 1960s with the fabulous Miriam Makeba!
I have no clue what she's saying but it feels like it's something good to hear and made me happy 😊
She's singing in Xhosa. Basically she says "so there we were and we turned around." Then the "yiyo mama" part is basically saying "that's it lady, this is the Pata Pata." Pata pata means touch touch.
Haha I came to check if she's going to be able to pronounce the clicks on "saguquka." Indeed she can't pronounce them but she's so great she was able to get away with it because everyone else who isn't South African won't notice. Great performance!!
I did too, but it's such a great performance we can forgive her!
I am so trying to go see her perform, either Feb 14 in St Louis. or Feb 16th in Michigan- Remain in Light! It's quite the drive especially in winter, but I will try.
