  • In this video I show how I forge a simple tea light holder from a piece of fat rebar. The resulting shape is a bit funny, so I call it the cow poop tea light holder. Ha ha...

    Ubiquitous material, simple process achievable with the absolute basics or power hammers, and a lovely result which would serve well as a personal gift or even as 'bread and butter' type money making items for blacksmithing.
    Marks of a great project man!

    Torbjorn, it's great to see your videos again, I've missed them. this little project is a wonderful beginners project. they turned out very nice. I hope to see more videos from you. a lot of the RUclips blacksmiths that made me very interested in Blacksmithing are fading away. Maybe because it is so time consuming.

  • @Jesses001

    Very simple project. You really like rebar to work with. It is very easy to work with and shapes easily. Also, unlike mild steel, it will take a heat treat, though it is not a very good heat treat as it never really gets hard enough for a hard use tool. I guess it is some kind of low carbon simple steel.

    • @torbjornahman
      @torbjornahman  7 лет назад

      Yes. The alloy can vary very much. The purpose is just to sustain a specific strength specification, other than that it can contain just random alloying elements - so I have heard...

    • @Jesses001
      @Jesses001 7 лет назад +1

      Yes I have made some knives with it and heat treated them. They hold an edge...fair. It reminds me a lot like 9cr18mov. Any time I try to get an official make-up of the alloy manufacturers say it is just mild steel but that is clearly not 100% accurate.

    Beautiful tea lights. Thanks for sharing. So simple each unique and individual. Thought just a traditional blacksmith finish of pure bees wax applied when hot would perhaps be preferable to paint and varnish though.

    • @torbjornahman
      @torbjornahman  7 лет назад

      Thanks. Since there is this very unique relief or pattern I wanted it to stand out and decided to try something different. By rubbing off the paint you expose the metal on the high spots which accentuates against the dark. Could have gone with bees wax on top of this of course but well... spray varnish I applied.
