Those crows were actually instigating the cats to fight by aggravating them, so that they could either finish off the loser if it's injured enough, or stalk it until it succumbs to its injuries, and then have a feast. It's like how crows swarmed around battlefields before the fighting even began, which is how they became a symbol of death. Hell, a flock of crows is called a murder. The cats are too stupid to realize that they are being "hunted" by intellectually superior foes. This happens all the time. Nature is scary.
Dr. Fumbles crows are unbelievably smart. I think we all underestimate other species. If they cant talk like we do they are stupid right? They speak a language we cant understand. This fight showed me animals are not much different than we are. Only they cant speak

Corvids absolutely love tails - cats, dogs, rats, other corvids. They'll even pull a bird of prey's tail if they can get close enough. There are some great clips of corvid teamwork - 2, 4, even 5 of them strategically boxing in another animal so they can tease them.

The crows were most likely defending a nest, and so they were harassing the cats from the sidelines in order to chase both of them off. Corvids (crows, jays, magpies, ravens, etc) do this all the time to potential predators, harassing them until they leave.
