The trick of using wormwood amongst the straw to deter mites is super cool! I’ve even rubbed small amounts of wormwood on myself before to deter midges, mosquitoes etc when I’m on a walkabout here in the UK! I absolutely love your knack of imparting interesting and valuable information to people in an easy digestible format without the need for excess verbosity!

Just watched this for the 3rd time, we have nearly completed our chook coop & run, planted trees, shrubs,etc & just when I thought our plan was great, I saw here some more improvements we can add. love this video, informative & so relaxing to watch. Hiya. Great video thank you, with some tips I’ve not thought of. I’ve changed our chook configuration many times and still learning how to perfect the set up. Do you have a drawing of your chook area? I’m not quite sure I understand how the areas all link up.
These are around 1.5m high - but only because we have the goats in there too. they could be a bit lower - 1.2m'ish. Some chooks are more prone to jumping over fences than others - so this can vary sometimes :-)
As a Tasmanian living in Victoria for 20 years. Chooks get attacked by Foxes - lost all my ladies in one night- so remember outside Tassie consider how to protect your chooks. Love this and miss my place of birth
I keep seeing these perfect wood chips. What kind of arborists do we have in my country. Our wood chips are like crap compared to yours. Big lumps lol.

How do you keep those pesky rodents out?? My back neighbour has free range chickens and I see the rats running in and out of my veggie garden and where I want to start my first chicken coop. Please help!
Dried gum leaves can be part of a deep litter system. It doesn't have to be woodchips - that's just what we have available to us. You could also use straw/hay, old drown leaves some sawdust.

You need to buy snake mesh and make sure it is buried quite deeply all the way round.
