    Enjoyed this video less for the review and more for the pragmatism and reflection on the journey. The problem is; you’re just too similar to a dude we all knew well called Ben. We’re missing him. He didn’t have a cool dark green wingback though. So I’ll give you a chance.

    Welcome back mate. It really is fantastic to see you return. I have missed seeing the way you break down your reviews. I have still not yet tried the 12, the Cigar Malt however is amazing.

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  3 года назад

      Ahh the Cigar Malt, I bought a bottle at the same time as this. After being given the Dalmore 12 in a blind tasting and really being put off it I was worried I'd dislike the Cigar Malt as much so threw it up for auction to recoup so funds. Luckily I bought it at a decent discount so didnt lose much money.
      I tried the 12, Cigar Malt and Portwood at the same time in the store and thought they were all good at the time... I may need to revisit the CM/PW if I get chance.
      Cheers Andrew 🥃👍

    I've never tried Tamnavulin or Dalmore 12 for the reasons you mentioned but I like the comparison at the end. So many people buy with their eyes only and without any 'research', not realising they are overpaying so much. Very interesting approach in this video.

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  3 года назад +1

      I was 100% with them early on in my journey. I was drawn to Dalmore because of the presentation, when I went to buy it the Glendronach 12 was suggested instead. I ended up walking away with both bottles after being given samples but the Glendronach was drunk much more enthusiastically!
      The Tamnavulin is an alright whisky in a pinch but I wouldn't suggest you hunt it down. I've been given bottles and picked one up whilst travelling and enjoyed them well enough 🥃👍

      Love some of the new distillery whisky like Ardnamurchan, Raasay and Lindores Abbey. Also a big Bruichladdich fan and Port Charlotte 10 is one of my favourite peat whiskies. Think it just tops Ardberg 10. Look forward to your future reviews.

      I'd suggest dropping hints for the Bunnahabhain 12 or Stiuireadair, Tullibardine Burgundy or Sherry, Benromach 10 or even Glendronach 12 instead. Better sherried experience.
      Cheers Russ 🥃👍

    Welcome back. It's good to see you again, and I love the incredibly accurate description of Dalmore.
    As to the Copita, do you prefer that strongly over a Glencairn? Or just over a non-tasting glass?

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  3 года назад +1

      I do prefer the Copita to the Glencairn when it comes to whiskies I like, though it's a marginal difference between those too. Most of my objections with the Glencairn are to it's awkward clunkiness which is more subjective.
      It tends to be:
      Copita for a whisky I want to sit with, explore & enjoy.
      Canadian Glencairn or Tumbler for a whisky I've found off-notes in and I want to let escape/mellow.
      Cheers Steve 🥃👍

    Hi Ben, good to see you back. The Dalmore 12 for me was my first wrong buy (especially for what it cost). Its not a bad whisky but in this category there are many good whiskies available . Got the Tamnavulan double cask as a present and for the money its not that bad . Good video Ben. Slàinte

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  3 года назад

      Hi David,
      I imagine a lot of people in this community have a similar story with this whisky. There was so much I learnt from this whisky that I couldn't include in the video (or it would have been a 30 minute rant 😂). When I bought my first bottle I was given a sample of Glendronach 12 and recommended to get that instead. I enjoyed them both so bought them both. After drinking them side-by-side a few times I started to draw conclusions about colouring and ABV vs flavour delivery. Then when my wife poured the Dalmore 12 for me blind one time I was surprised to find I really disliked it without the thin veil of marketting. I struggled to drink it for months after because the off notes were all too prevelant!
      There are so many whiskies I would rather have in & under this price point, it is hard to believe they shift as many bottles as they do!
      Yeah I dont mind the Tamnavulin, have been given a bottle and bought another whilst travelling. Decent enough it can be sipped neat & cheap enough you wont lose any friends addint it to coke 😉

    I frequently glance at the Dalmore 12 when I’m in my local liquor. It looks so inviting. Dalmore does an outstanding job with their brand marketing, but the 12 year expression just doesn’t match up against similar prices alternatives. The King Alexander is a wonderful expression, but it’s over $250 where I live, and it’s simply not worth it. Dalmore should take a leaf out of the Glendronach and GlenAllachie playbook: Higher proof, no added color, and non chill-filtered.

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  3 года назад +1

      Yeah it's a palid offering within its price bracket. Even at half the price it doesn't fair well in a blind tasting!
      I've got a sample of the King Alexander III - from memory I'd echo your thoughts. Great whisky but again out of it's depth at that price point.
      I have a feeling the likes of Whyte & Mackay have no interest in the products integrity but rather focus on cashflow 🤔

    Late to the party but great you are not dead 😂. I had a similar experience with Dalmore in the earlier stage but in fear if being beaten by the booze bloggers I do still like it. It does have an awful lot of better competition now though!

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  2 года назад

      Me too! 🤣
      Yeah, a LOT of stiff competition at its RRP! I'd probably still be fine with it if it hadn't come up in those blind tastings 🥃👍

    Dalmore 12 presented at 40% abv added colour and chill filtered for between £40-£50 sorry Dalmore but you must try harder.
    now the Dalmore 12 is another dead marine you can give the bottle to Lydia

    I really liked Dalmore 12 early I’m my
    Whisky journey. My bottle didn’t last long. But at $100 CAD I probably wouldn’t get another bottle.
    The artificial colouring is also a turn off I wish all distilleries would just leave the color and chill filtering alone

    • @WhiskyGeek
      @WhiskyGeek  3 года назад +1

      I'm the same and imagine a huge portion of consumers are - on the surface it's an acceptable whisky. But then we go and educate ourselves and outgrow it 😉
      I was really put off my bottle after Jo poured it for me blind. It sat on the shelves untouched for several months after that! I'll pick up some indendently bottled Dalmore at some point 🥃👍
