tbh this is probably the nicest looking mini pc in a long while, much prefer the metal finish instead of the usual plastic boxes.
Moar power! I'd love to see this running at a higher TDP to see how well that heatsink copes.

Thx ETA. Minix 0db N100 is definitely a premium product. Huge chunk of cooling block is a nice luxury.
N100 with DDR4 isn't a premium product.
It's like those numerous sub-$200 fanless firewall/router N100 mini-PCs on Ali Express (just without quad i265 NICs).
The use case that this makes a lot of sense for is for podcast recorders who want to have a high quality recording with sensitive microphones. Fanless pc running the recording software would eliminate fan noise.

I have an N100 now as my firewall but it is not fanless, a fanless model would be great for my sister's house who trains pets.
Chang Wang sells a bare-bones, passively-cooled N100 with dual Intel i226-V 2.5GbE NIC's for $150 (CWWK X86 P5). It would be suitable for a basic firewall, unlike this minix box. Of course, you still have to add your own M.2 NVMe 2280 SSD and a DDR5 SODIMM. I've been very happy so far with their earlier passively-cooled N5105 model that has 4 Intel 2.5GbE NIC's. Runs a little hot (doesn't thermally throttle) but I haven't repasted it yet. Others report a 10C temperature drop afterwards.
I believe N100 supports DDR4 and DDR5. If they went with the DDR5 variant, it wouldn't need dual module, and you are at max config. I bet you the DDR5 will run GOW for PSP at 3X if this had DDR 5.

You can certainly get an N100 mini PC cheaper, but this is great for an environment where it needs to be fanless.
I wonder how it would hold during over 90° temps at summertime.
u can sandwitch metal on fan designs and it works, it's 6w people, way less than a lightbulb

Is this even possible to run comfortably in Win11? I have an Asus N100 itx and despite 16GB RAM, the work is not comfortable, YT loads the processor in the browser especially heavily. It's not about the video itself.
For comparison, I bought Ryzen 5300U and the difference is colossal in favor of Ryzen
This reminds me of the situation how a long time ago, encouraged by advertisements, I bought a computer with an Intel Atom processor (nvidia ION). All the reviewers praised how it plays videos and yes the video on YT played smoothly at the time, but the pleasure of using the system was very low. Even when you just wanted to scroll the web browser everything stuttered. Today's low-power processors are faster, but the system requirements have also increased, so I suspect the user experience may be similar.
Minix? Mini-X? Ok, I was thinking that it's a computer running on Minix OS.

It would be nice to see what it can do with at least semi modern 3D PC games. It might not run them fantastic, but at least it will help people considering getting one. No one expect this thing to run Cyberpunk at high settings, but give me something like Skyrim, Doom 2016, something.
Otherwise I think it is a good looking system, very early 80s 8-bit looking home computer, I like that.

There is a lot of competition in the N100 sector and this just doesn't have enough about it to rally distinguish itself at the price being charged. That warning sticker about the heat on the top (that wasn't mentioned) would concern me and the lack of DDR5 is another downside in comparison to some of the competition. Minix are better known for Android boxes, which were also rather more expensive than the competition but tended to provide better firmware and support. But this is X86 and does not require the same more specialised attention.
So with just one major factor that makes it different, it just doesn't cut the mustard for me. They need to bring the price down closer to £$€200 to hope to compete. The power draw is less than others, so might indicate that the top would get even hotter if it drew the more typical 25-8w at max that we see from other boxes.
I believe that's just a reminder that cooling would be further improved if air flow exists around the device and telling you not to touch it during heavy duty use, nothing really concerns me, I am using it and it's great.
Yes, you point it. A better fan control is what is needed. You can set the power limit and then a low rpm fan is lower acoustic noise than the background. I was interested in mini-pc to get rid of my old desktop, size- and power-wise. My minimum feature set was replaceable DIMM and 3 displays.
The offers from Chatreey fit me with the AN2P R5 75625U and the T9 ADL N100 which provide 4 displays.
Why DDR4 again? Its single channel, so only ddr5 IMHO

Can we turn it into a steam machine?
Probably. But with intels integrated graphics, you wouldn't really want to. The only real appeal of this is having a cheap stupidly low wattage x86 machine that is actually decent in windows for basic tasks.
All of intels previous low end low wattage celerons were barely able to run windows 10.

The GMKTek G3 is a bit cheaper and I've been happy with mine. The fan on my G3 doesn't create any significant noise when using Batocera and emulating games. The fan is the only moving part in my G3 and removing that from the build by going passive cooling like this MINIX would not just make it quieter, but also remove a potential source of failure.

these type of pcs were useful like a decade ago, but now we got more powerful and compact systems in our pockets. looks like antique trying to hold on and i bet the price is not that pleasing too on top of being rather obsolete

$239 for a Intel N100 cpu + 8GB ram + 256GB ssd? It's expensive.
Yup, it isn't the only fanless NUC around, but it is very well built.

The GMKtec light green mini pc ETA reviewed is same specs and $140 on Amazon right now. Not sure I could swallow the $100 more for a fancy heatsink pill for this one….

I kinda regret buying these mini PC because, unlike laptops, their resale value is low. They are not as desirable as laptops. I recently switched to a laptop and for so long I've been trying to sell my mini PC online. No one is even trying to make an offer to buy it even though the specs of it are pretty decent.
30-40% CPU usage while idling at desktop is very concerning...

It might still be setting itself up. It shows running for about 10 min at that point, pretty sure a fresh installation of Windows need more time for everything to update and setup.

Fanless is cool, but at that size and wattages, a fan is acceptable. Small fans are barely audible, even at very high RPMs.

The N100 can only do 16GB of RAM maximum. Those specs are wrong.

While the official spec of N100 shows 16GB Max, it has long been disproven as a hard cap by people installing 32GB modules and seeing all of their RAM in the BIOS/OS/Etc..
You're mistaking rated maximum versus real world maximum. The only real limit is the size of the SO-DIMM you can actually buy.
