Just watched your apology video, I’m new to the Gardening business but have had 30+years running two other businesses & just wanted to say be honest with your reviews we respect them and remember you can’t please everyone. I can see your incredibly hard working and to do these videos takes lots of time & energy plus bravery to put your self out there. Keep up the great work.
This is the way to go! Verticuters are so expensive - especially if you need the attachment or machine for bigger lawns so its great to have a link to someone who can manufacture them!!! Good luck to the winner of the competition!
i used my regular verticutter yesterday after i noticed my lawn was getting a bit spongy even tho its getting cut at the same height for months. i took off 2 extra bags and it still looks awesome.
Thank you Shaun - very nicely explained. One key issue with the cassette based verticutters is that they normally fit into a roller mower and when used the heavy roller immediately flattens the stollons which the verticutter has just exposed. It means the follow up rotary mower has less chance of chopping the bad guys. Your scarifier adapter solves this - it looks a real winner. Well done
The cheap electric scarifiers such as the one from screwfix come with a spring tine cartridge and a fixed blade cartridge. As long as you do multiple passes and take care of the electric cord they work fine. I’ve never seen anyone near me have the lawn scarified or verticut even those that have visits and products applied from one of the big lawn care companies. My scarifier doubles up as a verticutter with the blades set high 😅
Apology video was unnecessary :) don't let the 0.1% of people put you down. Remember for every 1 bad comment, there is 1000 people watching without a youtube account enjoying your content :)
Excellent as ever Shaun, i hope you are safe and well and looking forward to a decent break. I have to admit i do verticut quite alot during the growing season and yes you do notice the difference. the lawn gets thicker and you do remove dead layers and rubbish from the lawn.
Excellent video as always. I have Hyundai petrol scarifier. Too lazy to keep changing cartridges so have just bought a cobra scarifier and one of Mark’s verticutters. I can at least tell the difference between otherwise identical machines as one is blue and the other is red! Have never seen the point of the raking cartridge. I am becoming lawn obsessed thanks to your enthusiasm Shaun.
i treated myself to a moto tek verticutter cassette for my von haus 1800w (same as the hyundai) a few months ago and its been great. my ryegrass rear lawn has never looked better. i have a robot cutting it every day, and once a week i tickle it with the verticutter to stand everything up and then go over it with my rotary. my rye/fescue front and side lawn is still pretty thatchy over 2 years of spring/autumn scarifying so im hoping that by next year this will also be in great nick. looks good, just spongy to walk on.
Morning We have one of these little electric machines with the exchangeable cartridges. We have a larger lawn circa 800sq meter but for the few times a yr we use it - it's ideal. We never seem to use the waste catcher but open the rear waste gate on it so that it clears the waste clear of the tynes. Had it close on 15 yrs and just had to replace the drive belt on it once. Hired a "professional" machine one and it was ok but typical hire-shop condition. Keep up the good work
Hi Shaun another great video, a wealth of knowledge, shown and shared and described in a professional manner as always. Your hard work and dedication is respected and appreciated. You always get great results. Thanks for your time, effort on all the vids..👍🇬🇧❤️
At last the wait is over Shaun. I’ve been eagerly waiting for this video. The cobra machine looked great and hopefully overtime you’ll see great benefits for your. Also looked into getting one for myself so hopefully I’ll get to use it this season. Keep up all your hard work 👍
Great video Shaun! I always use the Flymo electric lawn raker, works brilliantly for keeping our lawn thatch free, I do it a few times a year after watching one of your videos, our lawn looks fairly reasonable for an amateur👌
I have one of the cheap electric rake/scarifiers. The solid blade cassette is way too aggressive for my weak clay lawn. I've been considering taking an angle grinder to the blades and sharpening them into knifes for verticutting... do you think this might work?
Amazing video! A question you do this without putting new grass seeds on? Basically the first steps of a renovation? Thank you for your great videos 🙏🏻
Interesting video Shaun ,glad to see you have upgraded your buisness to a verticutter (probably more a gromming cartridge 20mm spacings) moto-tec made me a similar cartridge for my hyundai 1500e a year ago ,works perfect for standing grass vertically and cutting annual meadow grass but won't put in collection bag.
I wish machines like that Cobra were available to us here in the US. I ended up buying an electric one from WEN. It's the same style as that blue one you have. The only gas powered ones we have are the monsters you can rent but they are very aggressive. I'm just tired of dragging a 100 foot cord around.
Hi probably yes you'd need to get in touch with him. I do know he was in talks with a youtuber in the USA but not sure how far that progressed. The other name for these cartridges are groomers so you may find these available under that name
I have just been looking after a dog and I have got a lot of wee burns on my lawn would you recommend renovating the lawn now or wait till September and what things would you recommend Many thanks
That’s a nice machine/toy!! 😂 another great video I have a very old qualcast scarifier been great but loosing some of the pins now so will look at the Hyundai one 😊 unless I can get a cutter for mine?
Hi Shaun- love the videos, every single one. How would you deal with verticutting on a longer length grass blade lawn. I keep my lawn at highest setting and mow regularly. Keeps it lush and healthy but getting some browning. Seems ripe for a verticut but when I tried on a smaller patch of lawn with my scarifier at the highest setting. Although the lawn recovered, it was taking a lot of healthy blades and height out of the lawn?
@@LawnRight thanks Shaun. Appreciate the reply. I know most people on RUclips like a bowling green lawn but nothing better than a freshly striped longer length blade, lawn
Thanks for the long-awaited verticutter video! I thought you would buy a cassette for your Stihl or Viking scarifier instead of buying another machine. I'm not opposed to buying a dedicated verticutter machine, but I've run out of storage space. Unfortunately, dedicated verticutters seem to be impossible to find in Germany. The "Vertikutierer" sold at almost every garden store here is similar to the Hyundai model you have and is a scarifier/rake.
Hi Mike, these two machines were sent to me in all honesty with the cartridges. I may well buy one for my stihl and eventually get rid of both of these.. Hope you are well?
Excellent video Shaun. Love your channel and the work you put into them. Nice camera work and drones 👌. I have an allett classic e12. Does the guy make verticutting cartridges for these or is that copyright infringement?
Hi Shaun. As you know my Wife, Lisa Redfern-Webb very well, and myself, the vehicle valeter from Stoke-on-Trent, bought the Hyundai HYSC210 petrol scarifier last year. It looks very identical to the Cobra, which you have used in this great video. We would love to know if we can pre order a verticutting blade for our machine, from the guy you recommend 🙏 We welcome your advice please Xx
They are the same machines just a different colour 👍 I’ve got the high capacity Verticutter like the one Shaun has ( Mark the guy that makes them does 2 versions and is super helpful if you have any questions)
Excellent video easy to follow. If you want the perfect lawn will cost you quite a bit of up front investment the cobra petrol machine costs £350 + special vericutter (custom made additional £150).. Probably only worth investing if you have a very large lawn.. Probably not for a standard lawn most people have! Another great informative video..
Great video and perfect timing for me as I have the cheap Aldi scarifier which I find great for what I need in a scarifier and I also have purchased the verticutter blade for it from Mark at moto-tek that I'm actually going to use for the first time today, here in sunny Sheffield, looking forward to the results, shame I never had a discount code😂
Hi scarifying is mainly for surface thatch, and depending how much you go into soil will determine how much is removed below the surface. Aeration does also relieve compaction
@LawnRight right ok cheers my friend works at golf club said can use scarifier 40mm below surface should firm it up surely? He says they use sand after would you recommend that too for a garden?
It's hard to say as I only use it once. It does seem pretty good though an it's mid priced so should be half decent. I only found the grass box a bit fiddly to take on and off till id figured out a knack
It wasn't too bad.. I'm great at making things look hard. 🤣. It's a small price to pay. Allet mowers latest models have quick change but it's a larger upfront investment
Hi yes that's correct. They're designed for deeper down thatch removal... But you can use them on a very light setting to get a similar result, but may well look a bit rougher
Hi have the screwfix titan scarifyer which comes with the blades and the tines, twice a year spring and autumn,I use the blades then through the season i swap the blades for the tines and maybe 3 or 4 times through the season I go over the lawn with the thin tines very lightly just touching the surface, it will do a great job of thinning the lawn out without it heavy scarifying, it works for me

Amazing video! A question you do this without putting new grass seeds on? Basically the first steps of a renovation? Thank you for your great videos 🙏🏻
