though it isn't canon, it is fun to think that originally the Barbarian in D2 and D3 was supposed to be the same character.

It was in the first week of Diablo 3s release and had actual dialogue that mentioned the events of Diablo 2. They decided to retcon it for some reason.

Originally, the Barb in D3 was going to be the same as the Barb in D2. Which is why they have the same appearance just older with the white hair. However, they retcon it because the heroes in D3 are Nephilim and canonically the Barb in D2 could not be the Barb in D3 because until the Worldstone got destroyed, Nephilim were not able to be born. Would have been cool though.

I thought this was still Canon! I'm thinking they changed it because d3 introduced body types and they had no lore for a female barb.

My theory is the Viz'Jaqtaar Assassin that killed Isendra the Sorceress was none other than the Diablo 2 Assassin.
I also theorized that Natalya an Assassin npc in Act 3 was the canonical version of D2 Assassin itself. In the gossip just before you defeat Mephisto in Act 3, Natalya mentions that her Order send her to the lands of the Barbarians in Mt. Arreat for a "special unknown mission". In the canonical lore the Assassin and the Druid join the other 5 heroes in order to defeat Baal.

    • @Phlebas
      @Phlebas 26 дней назад +2

Yeah, I also agree that Natalya is the playable assassin, canonically. The fact that you can interact with her while playing as an assassin is just something that can be ignored (kind of like how in D3, you can meet your hirelings in the campaign mode while they're already following you - they have some dialogue like, "hello fellow templar" but then just merge into a single character after the interaction is complete).

After seeing through this and some other videos on youtube, here is the fate of the D2 heroes in conclusion:
    Happy ending:
    - Cassia the Amazon
    - Xul the Necromancer
    Bad ending
    - Isendra the Sorceress
    - Carthas the Paladin
    Not happy or sad
    - Natalya the Assasin (later change to Demon Hunter)
    Not conclusive
    - Barbarian (either him or the Barb Hirelings in act V IS the D3 Barb)
    No info
    - Druid

  • @randallbachir3695

Also the first druid was the brother of bul khatos, i forget his name. Bul khatos decided martial prowess should be their main focus while his brother decided to aline with nature was more important, so the druids came to be.

It would be interesting if the Sorceresses was killed by the Assassin, as a tragic ending to the two of them that once fight together, as tragic always surrounds the Heroes in the franchise. The developers said at some point that all the seven classes fight against Baal, however not all of them were still alive, we knew that the Sorceresses was death, now we know that the Paladin also didn't make it, I was scared about the Druid's fate.
Thanks so much for this video, can't believe it was so long ago of this adventure against the evil forces.

Phil Shenk tweeted on X on Jun 29, 2021 that Natalya was meant to be the "canon" Assassin hero. Phil Shenk was the lead artist of the original Diablo II and the expansion Lord of Destruction. Obviously the plan changed between the releases of Diablo 2 and LoD, but "Natalya" was intended to be the canon Assassin hero character.
Canonically, the Assassin and Druid characters did NOT join the heroes and participate in the events of Acts 1 to 4; so, there was a 1-2 year gap between the events of Act 4 and 5. The party of the original five heroes first got together to kill Andariel, pursued the Dark Wanderer and met Natalya along the way but she did not join them. The original five destroyed Mephisto, and then finally hunted down and destroyed the Dark Wanderer as the host of Diablo. Then the party split up and the original five heroes went their separate ways.
More than a year later, the original five heroes reunited after Baal had invaded Mount Arreat. THEN, the Assassin (Natalya) met the five heroes again. This time she joined the heroes and Druid joined the original five heroes to defeat Baal. I think that is the canonical version of the story.

A fellow necro will tell the player that the doors are closed and that the there are many graves of the most powerfull necros and that many of them died when Malthael did his thing.

During the developments of Diablo 2 classic and Diablo 3, the "canon" name that Blizzard used internally for the Barbarian character was "Kronan", (obviously inspired by "Conan the Barbarian".) The male Barbarian in D2 and D3 was supposed to be the same character, which is why he was much older in D3; but Blizzard scrapped this idea before the D3 public release, (i.e., they did not confirm it was the same Barbarian in D2 and D3, but they did not deny it either.)

That will be one hell of a task. Even Diablo 4 doesn't seem to acknowledge the nephalem's existence, which is weird given that they're pretty much the most powerful being in the universe by the time of ROS ending. You'd imagine they would at least get some praise after they literally saved the world in D3, but they get no praise or even mention - nothing. Weird, right? And they must still be alive, since the nephalem age a lot slower than humans

Diablo 1 and 2 are so much better if you read the books made around them too. Read Legacy of Blood front to back with only food and sleep between. Delving into the world like this and with the theme of that book I really felt what the main character did.
The lore in Diablo is really good. Sadly they lost it by Diablo 3 and it just felt a lot more predictable and generic.

Most agree that the Barbarian from Diablo III is the same one from II, only older, wiser and also the father of Sonya, there is speculation if not certainty that the reason Sonya journeyed to Tristram was at the behest of her father, whom now a senior of his people had to safeguard them while she must also undertake her trials, while also carrying their peoples legacy
Xul is also said to on larger Journey across the realm to find more lost lore of Rathma, this fear is something that he share with the Druid, both being keepers of the balance, an in the aftermath of the destruction of the World Stone & now Sanctuary being open up to all manner of threats, they might b involved with other Mages to find a means of safeguarding the barriers, between the realms, perhaps that is what really got the Sorceress killed, this would also bring the likes of the Witch Doctor into the fold, thus marking a path for several of there orders to seek Tristram
The Paladin is still on his crusade seeking out those still strong & pure in there resolve of the Light, of Zakkarum, to protect and aid those that needed, its possible he had more then once meet up with Johanna & her master as well as other followers of the Light, to share their stories and re-count what has transpired, it stands to reason that this was what set the Crusader on the path towards Tristram,
