  • A friend of mine and me go to visit this punic temple at Ras il-Wardija in Gozo and this is what we found. Enjoy my shaky footage - sorry.

"Ras Il-Wardija was investigated by Italian Archaeologists during the years 1964- 1967. The excavation points to a Punico-Hellenistic scared compound with a rock cut sanctuary. Early activity at the site is indicated by the presence of prehistoric cart tracks which might suggest a bronze age settlement, but the earliest pottery found indicated third century BC occupation."

Thanks for uploading this. I will be using in class to teach about the presence of the Phoenicians on our beloved island of Gozo - the island of joy - to the Form 1 students at the Sacred Heart Seminary School. Few Gozitans know about our Phoenician heritage; fewer are aware of it. Who would we be without the Phoenicians!

it's very sad that the Phoenician sites of Malta are not visitable for the public, like Tas Silg and San Pawl milqi. We tried to visit the punic tombs of Muggiaro but they were covered by materials and private fields. Malta needs to take more pride on its Phoenician heritage.

we managed to visit Ras Il Wardija, dressed up as Phoenicians and performed a ritual.

No not really, there' nothing private about this place, it's surrounded by private fields, but the main path leading to it is common for all fields and not private I believe. Unless you mean the temple land itself.. That's government property for sure.
