Nails can recover HP via his equipment which leeches off enemy's HP. If he is defeated he can be recruited again by simply returning to the area where he was initially found.
Avoiding late battles for time sounds very Shin Megami. They made a sequel for this called Lennus 2.
I do love the aesthetics of this game.
I just finished this game, it's amazing.
I actually adore how actually short it is.
The lore is also amazing. It's like a 90's love letter to 60's 70's Sci Fi.
So well said! I really liked this one, the art direction is SO GOOD. It's alien in a way a lot of media is afraid to try
My headcanon to explain this art style is that Paladin's Quest takes place in the Fantasy Zone. Space Harrier and Opa-Opa are busy doing their things just off camera.
The resemblance is uncanny. Only two games that look like this

story matters? Yes.
Tagline? Needs haircut
another great review. Keep em coming!
Much appreciated!
I actually really enjoyed this game. It's got it's nuances but it had a good challenge and was pretty original for it's time.
What's a paladin?
Betrayal!
We can’t! The press!
I'm not entirely sure...
@@Se7enBeatleofDoomyour knowledge of the land shall be great
It's like a friendadin but a little different
Just what I needed, am loving this series so far. Greetings from New Zealand!
Actually, Nails can restore its health. One of its attacks drains health from enemies. 🙂
You are slightly wrong about Nails. He has 'energy draw' which is a drain life ability. He can heal with that from whatever weak enemies happen to be nearby.
Glad i stumbled across this channel, definitely an underrated gem. Similar in humour, charm, and narrative flow to some of my top other favourites. Keep on doing what you are doing!
I would say the same except I like this channel because it’s not like a ton of the other channels I watch. Just glad more of your videos are being watched!
I played this game almost two decades ago and all I remembered was the HP-is-your-MP thing and the aesthetic. The rest of your top 10 list, though, has me wondering about a re-play 🤔
Sweet I got noticed lol. Great video keep em coming
Yeah this game has flaws with the battles but the art style and unusual plot kind of makes up for that, I wouldn't mind playing this one once in awhile.
I've seen the concept art for this game and it's really unique and well made, after seeing it I realized they probably wanted to do a lot more with graphics but just couldn't manage it you kind of have to fill in the blanks because of how abstract the simplistic visuals are.
I'm sure you know it got a sequel, it fixes a lot of the problems PQ has and the visuals are a lot more detail, but that point you made about PQ being short is the big problem with Lennus 2, it's extremely padded in the worst ways possible (and the soundtrack is significanly less inspired). I'm not even sure which I could say is better, they're both flawed.
Anyway good video I think you were fair with it and basically everything I'd agree with.
Really enjoy your content Jason
Holy crap seizure warning lol
This games pretty bizarre and I appreciate you have the stamina to muscle through these long rpgs but this is one of the most interesting yet.
That robot is one hell of a design idea. The kind of memorable and unique thing you'd expect from Demons Souls.
Congrats on 800! :D
You can actually heal the robot. If you press left on its attack menu thing you'll do "Eng drw" which heals the robot for 1/2 of whatever damage number.
Huh. How broken does that end up being?
@@JasonGravesPoser Once you figure out it targets an entire group of enemies, it's 100% broken.
Speaking of broken, there's a weapon you can get in some tower in the town with all the dead people. If six of these little blue enemies run away from you they combine into a big blue enemy. That enemy drops the most powerful weapon in the entire game. There is precisely zero reference to this weapon being there, so if you're playing for the first time not using a walkthrough you can just stumble onto it on accident (guess how I found out about it)
I love this channel, it helps me sift through the massive snes jrpg backlog without having to spend tons of time on these weird games I might not enjoy at all.
You're doing God's work!
I also want to add that I love the writing in these videos.
I know this video is a year old, but someone mentioned that you could heal Nails, which is true. You can also get him back after he dies if you go back to the place where you recruited him the first time.
"This menu may only take a second, but if you fight a thousand battles, you'll have lost more time than this entire video."
Shows what you know. I've watched this video several times.
They need to do a Switch remaster compliation with this and Lennus 2!
Or better yet, make a threequel. But a collection, preferably one with standard qol improvements and maybe a difficulty rebalance to top things off would be great. Hell, these games are cool enough to deserve a remaster or remake, but a reissue could be a good starting point. That being said though, I doubt it's gonna happen anytime soon, who even knows who owns the rights to these games these days.
@@apostlenik809 Yeah, it's a big problem since I heard the writer for the games' stories died in 2018.
I really like Paladin's Quet and 7th Saga. What makes7th Saga harder is you may not lose progress, but the unbalanced levelingcan break the game. Godfirbid you ever have to fight Valsu after he learns the broken elixer spell.
Always wanted to try this as a kid, but it was mysteriously never available for rent. I.mean literally anywhere in my area.
I feel like I missed out for sure.
Man, just discovered your channel, good stuff and kudos for the explanation of the part that you cut out, was a good choice :)
Nice review man! I like PQ but never got around to finish it. Good job!
Also, some equipment (helmet) do heal you or have secondary effect
Great review as usual! Can’t wait for the next one!
Now do lennus 2
Can anyone tell me the title of the music piece that's used during point 8 (magic system) and where it's form? I could have sworn I've heard it somewhere, but I can't put my finger on it. Many thanks in advance.
For anyone else who's interested, it's one of the background music pieces from Mario Paint on Super Nintendo.
i know this video is a few years old but could someone PLEASE tell me what the songs at 1:00 and 1:14 are? they might be the same song, i honestly cant tell
it's from Plok
@@JasonGravesPoserthe legend actually replied 🙌🏽 thank you so much man. love your videos. whenever i make the 6 hour drive to my parents i make sure to download your snes rpgs playlist
I feel like you missed the whole item system. BTW Sph crown heals too. And you can carry bottles in your backpack wit
ch is good between battles.
That was a great review. I think it could have been a bit shorter, but you covered everything well. You hair is fabulous.
I adore this game. I didn't enjoy the sequel as much.
This one is filled with Interesting mechanics
Will u play Eternal Filena
This game definitely has a unique look due to those colors
I'm quite curious to see a review of the sequel, Lennus II. I personally think it's one of the more underrated hidden gems of the Super Famicom. It fixes a lot of the issues the first game had, including the boss fights. I was enough of a lunatic to do a full solo playthrough with just the main character Farus and no other recruits.
Your pfp is so cute did you draw it?
The battles using individual body parts was done much better in the ps1 game Legend of Legaia - just play the pal version JP and PAL had normal exp and gold, North America got it halved
Bruuuuuuh please do one on Shadow run! It's the best rpg franchise 🍻
Does anyone recognize the song at 9:06? It sounds like gamelan
Its from secret of mana, think its called ceremony or something like that
@@sabbacca2289 Yup that's it, thanks!
What is the song that starts at 1:00 ish?
And the one playing at 14:35?
Well done on putting this video together :)
Thanks! I try
i played the sequel its alright

This game looks like it took the art style of Dragon's Heaven, and made it into a video game.
This game gave me the sharts.
Laid his future comments face down in defense mode
On the one hand, paladins are the best class and quests are the best adventures. On the other hand, Chezni and his name inspired an annoying guy on a game dev forum I used to go to and his terrible games.
why is the sound so terrible?!?
Why u wuss out if the joke. Your not an expert. You are alive you know wha death means i think all of us are knowledged in that aspect. I understand tho probably didn't want to hurt someones fifis
Interesting, but I still wouldn't play this game.
So, the guy plays the game _completely wrong_ and has a bad experience with it. Such as the clip of him hitting the enemy for 4 damage with his knife at the beginning of the video. The game makes it *abundantly clear* that you are a *MAGE* and as such, should be using *SPELLS* to kill things. If you're doing anything other than blasting magic with Chezni or Midia, _you're doing it wrong_ quite simply. And I know, I know "but but casting spells uses HP!" ... that's why you don't sell your medicine bottles when you get new ones. At the end of the game, you'll have like 4 mini bottles, 4 large bottles, and 4 giga bottles or something like that and you can go entire dungeons, blasting away every battle, running away from nothing, and getting ridiculous amounts of XP from it. Oh and as you cast spells, not only do they get stronger, but your resistance against that element grows. By the end of the game, Chezni ends taking 1 damage from pretty much every non-physical attack. Oh, and let's not forget that Midia's crown heals herself for 800 which is a powerful heal through most of the game which lets her spam her spells as much as she wants.
Also, the spell leveling... how you were supposed to do it, is use a spell until you master it, and then move on with the game until you unlock the next element, use that until you master it. Some late game spells are _extremely powerful_ like Bury (Air + Earth). You used _Fire_ through most of the game? No wonder you struggled and didn't like the game much. If you had discovered the ludicrous power of Bury, you woulda been laughing at the puny enemies standing in your way. Also, as I mentioned above, Sophie's Crown when used in battle heals Midia for 800. There are also a couple armors in the game (one of the mercs comes equipped with one) that does the same thing. The reason why they allow you to use all those body parts in battle, is because some of them have spell-like effects when used in battle. Some cast buff magic, some cast damage spells, and a few will even heal you.
Racism bad. So I guess that leaves the Fashion Police? "Never trust a guy who needs a haircut."
