Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!
Band-Maid, kicking asses since 2013 (they're not as young as you think). Agreed, the maid outfits are just a bonus, every Madiac will tell you that they come for the music, and stay for all 130 great songs or so. And, yeah, when they release US dates for their next tour here, having seen them once live, I absolutely recommend going to see them. Check out their live videos, and you'll see.
I was thinking of doing a live only day. You're the second one to recommend it, so that may be a thing coming soon.

To be fair, part of the reason that not a lot of American bands focus on the music and the playing is because not a lot of American bands actually have the talent that the Maids have. You have to have something to focus on before you can focus on it, lol.
Very true. Would be nice to see this shift happen to where we go back to bands actually playing their music.
Band-Maid music has been in a few anime features. Also, their music video of Unleash!!!!! starts and ends in anime form, with some real life sandwiched in between.
Some song suggestions for you are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, Clang, Endless Story, and both versions (live and video) of Don't You Tell Me. They have a catalog of over one hundred great songs. If you are not fond of one then choose another because it will be much different than the one before it and the next one to follow. Have fun with it!

It is indeed kick ass rock. Not sure if the question about anime is sarcasm or not so I'll answer anyway. Anime is Japanese animation. It usually has some kick ass rock over some really nice animation in the openings.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.
