  • Morty is trapped and Rick needs to save him, but to do so, Summer must do a Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard, Die Hard... Die Hard?

Definitely a weak episode. Morty trapped as NPCs is indeed very cool concept. But I feel like they are having a hard time to execute it into an episode without it being too "serious" or predictable... so they included "summer do a die-hard story" as a distraction/pop culture relief. So when they brinh up the main story of this episode back in future episode: Morty trapped in video game as NPCs, it'll be a surprise / throwback moment to us. I'm pretty sure they'll touch on the left behind marta-morty (part of morty who doubtful of rick) again. But i might be wrong 🤷

Love the honesty.. if u didn’t like it then that’s fine some of us didn’t either and we are not gonna lie and say we did if we didn’t.. totally agree with your description tbh.. maybe add Jerry and Beth in the summer story or something for more comedy🤷‍♂️ but it wasn’t awful just a bit of alright🤔🦀

I think you missed some context, or at least you didn't include it in your in-depth analysis of the episode. It surely wasn't a powerhouse of an episode. In that same breathe, every vehicle needs to stop for gas along the journey. You can't just pedal to the metal the entire way there. Would you prefer 9 more seasons of enjoyable content or 4 more seasons of mind gut busting followed by a void?
I understand, ever since R&M got their contract and are here to stay, it's not longer good enough to just have fun. It all needs to be put under a microscope if a couple jokes or plot lines didn't tickle our taints as expected. Seems kind of unrealistically demanding from an actuarial standpoint.
Of course, no one is required to like all the content. I'm simply saying, it wasn't a bad episode. At least imo, R&M has always encapsulated audiences not only with it's jokes and wit, but with the dialog. The metaphoric relation to life and the human experience. As bizarre as that may seem on a surface level, given that we're talking about a show in which main characters bounce around with portal tech seemingly without consequences, the show articulates that that is simply not the case. As seen in S6 E1, we see Rick has always dealt with reprocussions.
One of the big questions R&M poses is, what is the meaning of it all? Of course this is a narrative no doubt, strongly derived from the mind of Dan Harmon himself. It's sort of the essence of self-awareness, which the show promotes. No matter whay Rick does to escape his situation he never quite can. Enjoy the moments of calm before the existential storm hits again. Ying and Yang, no?
Again, you're entitled to your thoughts and views. I'd never take that away from anyone. I just like to bring another perspective outside of the critical eye of Solomon that seems to plague this show when fans don't get their hair blown back each waking moment of viewership.
