    Hi, thanks for your sharing. I have one question. This model is a large deformation process, which means severe mesh distortion occurs. Do you think it is necessary to take this factor into account? I mean I don't see your setting about ALE method or something else. Thank you again

    • @karthickbalaji5057
      @karthickbalaji5057  9 лет назад

      I didnt go for ALE. I got 15% deviation from experimental values. using ALE may reduce errors and ALE takes more computation time. Initially i thought only ALE can do this. But a tutorial from Lam Phung on chip formation was a eye opener. Just as a trial i made this and it works.

    Sorry, if you want to truly help. You need to add voice commentary, make longer and more comprehensive video and attach the drill model in the help. Please hope we can expect this in your future videos

    any thoughts on this message....
    was able to avoid the interior fragments penetrating the work piece unrealistically by creating an interior set interaction.
    any thoughts on the chip development? damage evolution based on energy? no deletion? adaptive meshing?

    Thanks very much for the tutorial. Just wondering about the model for the drill bit. Do you create that in Abaqus or some other software?

    • @karthickbalaji5057

      using solidworks

      karthick balaji Hi, I tried to use solidworks for building up drill file. However, how do you convert that file into abaqus?
      using STL file as converting file?

    Great tutorial pal.. I will make the exception and I will not ask for you .cae model since I am modelling different things. But one thing I would like to ask is regarding your workpiece material. What does it represent?A drilling procedure on what?on soil for example(dont know just saying)? Thank you very much for any reply and keep up the good job. Its awesome.

      drilling on aluminum block... you can replace any material by their properties.

    • @chrysostomos-alexandrosbek9549
      @chrysostomos-alexandrosbek9549 10 лет назад

      karthick balaji Thank you for your reply. I am aware of that. I am just looking for soil properties. It has been a very difficult procedure so far to find accurate soil material properties through the literature review. Anyway thank you very much for your answer and for your time and please tell me if you have any kind of soil material definitions for Abaqus available (Prefarably for D-P failure or M-C).

    Very good job karthick balaji !!! I am currently modeling a Drilling problem in Abaqus. My analysis seems to stop due to an *** Excessive Rotation ERROR of the node that I have assigned the Reference Point for the Rigid Body of the drill to. Did you face the same issue and how did you solve it? The only thing that seems to work for me is when I reduce my rotational velocity to much lower levels. Of course this is not a real solution. Any advice / tip would be very helpful !! Thank you!

    • @haroula100
      @haroula100 9 лет назад

      ***** Thank you for the response! I have already resolved the problem by reducing the time increment. Now there is no error reported concerning excessive rotation. Thanks much anyway! :)

    Very helpful tutorial. Why do you specify material/mesh for the drill bit when you specify it as a rigid body?
    I am trying to simulate a drilling process of a deformable HSS drill bit in an aluminium workpiece but am having problems with rotation. Do you have any suggestions on how to do a similar simulation with a deformable drill bit ?

    • @karthickbalaji5057
      @karthickbalaji5057  10 лет назад +1

      I got error when i declare the tool(imported iges) as analytically rigid. If you know how to do it, help me.
      In this simulation i declared tool as deformable body and workpiece is Aluminium.
      Concentrate on BC's for rotation problems. I have used velocity/acceleration BC. Initially while doing i too had this problem, the drill was not rotating and gives hammering action

    • @cianfitz
      @cianfitz 10 лет назад

      karthick balaji I imported a .sat file for the drill bit and was able to make it discretely rigid. You could save the drill bit in this file format in your CAD package and then import this file to abaqus. However my problem is I want to investigate the stresses on the drill bit itself so I must make it deformable but am running into problems when trying to rotate the drill bit. The rotation causes the drill to warp significantly. I have tried to initially rotate the drill bit slowly and build up to my desired rotation using a smooth step amplitude rotation applied to a reference point but I am unable to get the rotation to continue once it reaches the maximum amplitude. If you have any advice or ideas about this, regards amplitudes or possibly damping, it would be very much appreciated .

      cian fitzgerald I have declared tool as deformable initially but it constraint i declared it as rigid body. i have no idea how to continue rotation, the possible way is to increase amplitude. i'm working on tool wear, do you have any idea of how to get tool wear? and did you get chip formation while drilling?

  • @halewpatrick
    @halewpatrick 9 лет назад

    what modifications are required for the chip modelling, rather than being just deleted? also, some fragmented elements are shown travelling through the inside of the aluminum. how can interior interaction be used so the fragments must travel up the tool to exit? thanks

    • @halewpatrick
      @halewpatrick 9 лет назад

      Patrick Hale was able to avoid the interior fragments penetrating the work piece unrealistically by creating an interior set interaction.
      any thoughts on the chip development? damage evolution based on energy? no deletion? adaptive meshing?

    I am studying on the tool wear in a drilling process
    Is it possible to simulate the drill bit condition after the drilling rather than the workpiece condition?
    Any suggestion on the procedure?
