    1) It is very important to note that that this show changed history. When the show premiered, only L.A. and N.Y. had paramedic programs. During the run of the show, paramedic programs popped up all over the country. ALSO, if you had a heart attack and called for EMS in 1970, you had less than a 10% chance of survival. By 2000, the odds swung completely around-you had a 90% chance of survival.
    2) When I was a kid, that was absolute must see TV for me. One summer I had to spend at an older sister's house. She was the type of parent that you couldn't watch a TV show unless she had first watched it, or if she watched it with you. She was impressed with the show, but my mother wasn't.

@@kevinmiller6380 She had only watched the next to last episode. There was a scene where a facility was about to blow up. Suddenly the FD started clearing their people out. My mom asked "How did they know it was about to blow up?"
It's an instinct that firefighters have. She didn't get that and felt that the scene was far fetched.

Jack Webb wanted to bring this ‘new’ concept (at the time) of the paramedic to the audience because he felt there weren’t enough and this was the way of the future. Before that there wasn’t much hope if you were seriously injured on scene. You had to wait for an ambulance to arrive.

We transported our patients to Harbor General Hospital, which was Rampart General Hospital in the show. Tim would often speak at graduation ceremonies for paramedic classes. Rick, I'm going to the 50th anniversary event in January. Tim was the only autograph I didn't get. 🙄 Are you planning on attending in January? If so, it would be cool to meet you. RIP Chet, A.K.A. the phantom!

I remember him, I was just five or six years old when I watched the show and even though he wasn't the main character, he was a big part of the show success. His parts may have been small but his presence was so big. It makes me fill good knowing that his heart was just as big, rip.

I remember him on Emergency and his appearances in the earlier Jack Webb shows. Most memorable to me was a tragic episode of Dragnet, where a young couple (he played the father) liked to party despite the concerns of another family member about the welfare of their child. This episode did not have a happy ending.

Yes, Stanley Stover aka The Crimson Crusader, nicknamed Superfan by Sgt. Friday. I remember watching that episode. I had been a big fan of the Batman TV series a few years earlier. People at school the next day were asking if that was me on Dragnet last night. A bit of irony: The model for "Captain Lightning" in the posters on Stanley's wall was Olan Soule', who also had many parts on Dragnet. At this same time he was doing the voice of Batman on the Saturday morning Filmation cartoons which were done right after the live Batman series ended.

Rest In Peace Tim. Big fan of the show growing up. Your character was witty and mixed it up with the firefighters in quarters. However, on fire-ground operations Fr Kelly was the utmost professional and heroic. You inspired many to join a very rewarding career. God Bless.

So sorry to hear this...this was the very first show I HAD to watch in the 1970's - and I loved Chet, he was funny, Tim was great playing him - Chet was a welcome goofball...and you could tell all the guys loved him, even though he could drive them to 'distraction'...especially the Chief...Rest in Peace, Tim and Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this, I use to watch this show as a kid and haven’t seen it since. This really bought back memory’s and there was an animated series that I use to watch as a kid also, and to think it’s nearly 50 years really is a shock to the system, it is so sad to hear that a hero I looked up to as a child has now passed, thanks again, God bless

Yeah but I like that the moment the bell rang He was full on Firefighter. For what i noticed is the Chet seems to be the one next to Johnny and Roy to have the best Medical training as he is almost always the one that is handling the minor but somewhat on the fence wounds and injures while the rest handled everything else as well as working well with Johnny and Roy. so for me in this day I think Chet could be considered a Basic EMT

I was born the son of a fire captain almost 30 years after Emergency! ended, but grew up without TV. All we had was an old TV, and a DVD/VCR player. In second grade, one of my dad's coworkers gave us the first two seasons. They were my brother and I's special treat after feeding cows. We dressed up as Johnny and Roy for Halloween one year. When Randall Mantooth came to Spokane MedStar, we went to see him. He autographed the back of my costume helmet, and I have it still. I still occasionally sign texts "KMG 365", too.

Hey Rick, per his IMDb page he died on Sept. 17 of Complications from Surgery. My favorite episode was the one where Johnny Gage was snake bitten and they had to take him to Rampart on the back of the Engine. And Chet was the one with John on the back of the Engine. It actually showed the bonds there between Firefighters. We all remember how Chet and Johnny feuded, and that would make people think they hated each other, which couldn't be further from the truth.
