For me, the biggest culture shock was simply to see road signs reading: "Jerusalem"... I believe the relationship between the Jewish people and the land of Israel is perhaps the longest lasting love stories of human history... And the Hatikvah demonstrates this story beautifully. I'm a South African and Jews are an admirable community. I am a Christian and have a very deep love for the Jewish people. God has brought many Jewish people my way to bless me. My grandma worked as a cook and house help for the Brodys many years ago. She told us how they showed her much kindness even at a time when she needed funds for her first born to attend college. More than sixty years later I too have had the good turn of experiencing that kindness. The biggest was when a Jewish Specialist Paediatric Cardiologist saved our daughters life. We couldn't raise R900K for her surgery and this doctor did all he could, he pulled some strings for her to have that very expensive procedure. I'll never stop praying for Jewish community here in South Africa, in Israel and the diaspora.

Hello. My Grandmother was from Romania. I never was able to meet her - she died in childbirth, in America, when my Mother was only 11. I did meet her surviving sister, my Mother's Aunt, when I was in High School. She was quite Elderly and spoke no English. Her daughter, my Mother's cousin, translated for us. Hello. My Grandmother was from Romania. I never was able to meet her - she died in childbirth, in America, when my Mother was only 11. I did meet her surviving sister, my Mother's Aunt, when I was in High School. She was quite Elderly and spoke no English. Her daughter, my Mother's cousin, translated for us. I could feel her love, & felt my own Grandmother as I sat close to her & held her hands. I love this song. I remember hearing it as a child. This song fills my heart, mind & soul.
