cant get enough of watching this ship. its amazing how small the wheelhouse was in relation to the beam. especially in the transatlantic lane, officers and lookouts had to be in the weather to do many tasks during a watch. they would have loved one of those full beam bridges like we see today
God save the Queen! It's a shame they didn't build a cofferdam around her when she was moored at Long Beach. It would have solved many of the problems she faces today, and would have made her far more interesting to the public. How often does one get to see a ship out of the water?
At least she was moored in the hot but dry heat of Southern California, unlike humid Port Everglades, Florida, and the increased deterioration the RMS Queen Elizabeth endured...
This was almost 4 decades before my birth, but i would do anything just to go back for a few days. This is when Britain was Britain, not the sh!thole it is today.
Absolutely! This is just over 4 decades after my birth and, being native to Clydebank where this ship was built, it saddens me to see what has become of Clydebank now. (Spoiler: Nothing).
@fatjesuscoochierat4861 "Partially destroyed". Wrong. Queen Mary is being preserved. Her hull's in great shape today, and constant improvements are being made aboard her. She's doing very well.
@fatjesuscoochierat4861 No, they didn't. You are aware that other companies owned Queen Mary (and didn't put the care in enough) before the City of Long Beach took control of her and started restoration work and repairs on her, right? She's almost 90 years old, and we're lucky to have her around at all. Nothing is destroyed.

It’s amazing how we have colourised cameras when the queen Mary was still in service.
Yea since these are her last 7 years in service
I'm currently watching this at the site of the graving dock, its amazing that this happened here 63 years ago....
That’s an amazing ship!
Still is today. 😊
What a great time
Gabriel Miller yep
It was a great time I remember going on this liner it’s so grand
And now her fate is in question...I for one say she must be saved. She's irreplaceable, couldn't be built today. Nor her history.
BUILT in MY city, Glasgow! 👍🏻
In John Brown & Company at Clydebank, Scotland.
“She may not be as young as she was” still looks the same 64 years later 😂

The current repairs to the ship is going to involve or already is involving a cofferdamn. It will be interesting if they decide to keep it
@@Urlocallordandsavior she is still moored in long beach and undergoing repairs right now

@@carltrotter7622 it's the whole West unfortunately.
Hey! Comon! We all know the blik community at clydebank built her.
You can go see RMS Queen Mary today! She's in Long Beach, California. Incredible ship.
How did I get so emotional over a video of a ship getting pulled to dry dock for some maintenance
Cause in just a little time of 6 years she would have been retired and partially destroyed by Long Beach

@@wildsmiley hopefully they continue to take care of her
@@wildsmiley they destroyed her interior

I like the Queen Elizabeth secretly drydocked in Victoria British Columbia during Ww2 being painted grey and armed and converted into a troop ship
Fun fact: the queen mary is used in the poseidon aventure 1972
It’s crazy they had Colorized cameras 62 years ago
Color cameras go back way further than this.
