    I think the winter holidays have a lot to answer for. Christmas is incredibly stressful. Preexisting heart disease and squabbling relatives don't go together well. Being pressured to eat and drink gluttonously so as not to hurt somebody's feelings doesn't help. Feeling forced to overspend might push up blood pressure. Travelling in crowded planes is a great way to pick up germs you normally would never have encountered.

      Actually, the biggest risk of contagion in commercial flights is from contaminated surfaces; the second biggest is closeness of seat neighbors. The air is quite heavily recirculated through a HEPA filter, and refreshed by bleed air from one of the engines.

    In the Fraser Health Region (BC's Fraser Valley near Vancouver) where the teenager lived there is a very dense population of poultry farms...there are approximately 850 regulated commercial poultry producers in British Columbia. Eighty percent of production occurs in the Fraser Valley. By October 2023 the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed 52 farms have been infected with the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza virus in B.C. Since January 2024 an additional 28 poultry farms have been infected by avian flu. Back in 2004 more than 19 million poultry birds raised in the Fraser Valley were culled due to avian flu. Despite the knowledge that having this level of density of poultry farms invites infection moving from one farm to another the government never recommended a reduction in the number of poultry farms in the Fraser Valley.

    I want to share another story, my personal story. I'll be 60 in two more months. About 25 years ago I was living in my friend's basement where it was really dark with no sunlight. I had a 400 Watt Metal Halide light and a dwarf banana tree growing beside my bed and a timer for the light which I used basically as an Alarm clock to wake up to, it was on until I went to bed, it was kind of like the sun rising as the light warmed up and became brighter. All that winter I was in a cheerful mood despite living in an otherwise dark basement during the cold Canadian winters. I didn't know about Vitamin D at the time. I wonder if this helped my body to create it's own Vitamin D? I suspect so now and possible got more benefit from the other wavelengths as a Metal Halide produces a Full Spectrum. These light are used for growing plants. I'm now thinking of buying another one to use in my dark bedroom so I can reap the same benefits again.

      The benefits of fresh air and sunlight are well-known and has been used before. I believe the goal of the 2020 shutdown "stay-home" orders was to increase mortality. The 1918-19 flu pandemic came at a time when doctors were called away to treat soldiers and nurses were the primary care. Boston hospitals were full & resorted to "open-air" tent hospitals which coincidentally provided lots of fresh air & sunshine. The Tent Hospitals saw greater recovery rates.

The remarkable and well nigh miraculous effects of sunlight on this teenager indeed deserve to be widely known and shared. Thank you for taking the effort. Particularly valuable was the knowledge in an earlier video that when UVB rays for vitamin D production are greater, the near infra red are less, *and vice versa* so basically sunlight at any time of the day has benefits, obviously taking care not to get sunburned or damaging the skin with excessive UVB. I get out when it's not raining, mostly because I have work to do, and it reduces depression. I also supplement vitamin D (5000 IU) daily. I'm old and pretty healthy.

Bird flu experts, like Ron Fouchier, say it has increased with intensive poultry production. We need to stop blaming wild birds for this since they are the victims and unintentional vectors.

      This is not like south of border where there is demonstrative power held by insurance companies . BC does not have two tiered health care (i.e. privatized health). Some other provinces-territories do have both so the wealthiest get best care there as they can afford faster and best care. Providence Health Care is the main overseer of all various regional health authorities in BC. Vancouver Coastal Health is under this umbrella and the division for Vancouver city region. Knowing that sunlight or daylight received by the eyes is important as is sunlight on the skin or even (some wavelengths) through the clothes, when I am outdoors would my spectacles - not tinted, bifocals, over -4 power for myopia and +2.5 for near vision - affect the light reaching my retina? Should i remove glasses whenever it's safe to do so outdoors? Thanks. It's been on my mind, also whether glass or plastic lenses make a difference.

    How about densely populated areas? How does the health of those located towards the center (or “in the shadows”)vs those located towards the edges differ? Obviously these questions are impossible because people vary at every level so you can never properly set up the experiment. I do find it interesting that people seem to all be drawn to light. That as people gain resources the first move is always to come out of the shadows. The beaches and pools are always packed. That maybe it’s our explanation for this that’s all wrong. I watched a video recently that said heat was not the main reason for evaporation. That it was the light. Which makes me wonder, if we even know what “light” is. I don’t know, I’m just a curious guy, asking questions from inside a fork truck.

    • @FunderDuck
      @FunderDuck День назад +3

      Good questions. I had a similar thought and wrote to some health officials at the start of Covid about this. I was trying to raise some questions and concerns especially about people in northern latitudes who stay indoors or covered up often, which increases through the winter, and who don’t supplement in any ways to offset the vitamin D deficiencies this combination will almost inevitably create. I was told by one official that they weren’t talking about sunlight or vitamin D because they hadn’t conducted the “proper studies” and didn’t want to give the public a false sense of security by them supplementing. This was also at the start of lockdowns and they were trying to herd everybody to stay in their homes.
      You could probably do a study on certain key health and genetic markers between different groups of people with different sunlight exposure rates, such as landscapers vs office workers, and then continue the study where you reverse the amount of UV exposure each group receives to see how quickly and notably those key markers change. But I’m just a curious guy myself and this isn’t my area of expertise.
