GRANDFATHER CLOCK USING A BATTERY QUARTZ CHIMING MOVEMENT. THE ELEGANT CLOCK FEATURES WALNUT WOOD,CARVINGS,SIMULATED PENDULUM, CHIMES,WEIGHTS WITH AN OPEN PORE EXTERIOR HAND FINISH.
I bought a Howard miller grandfather clock with a mechanical Westminster movement. I have had to replace the mechanical movement twice at $350 each in 5 years. You chose wisely!
I COULD NOT TELL YOU MADE THE CLOCK UNTIL YOU TOLD US, WOW, IT REALLY IS A TREAT TO SEE WHAT CAN COME FROM OUR HANDS WHEN WE HAVE THE TIME TO REALLY SIT DOWN AND WORK ON A PROJECT, CONGRATS.
The speaker sounds like a senior gentleman who loves working with his hands. He has the time and patience to create something beautiful, which will enhance his home and he has not spent more than he could afford. Bravo to him. I have both clock wound and battery operated clocks and my grandfather clock is battery operated. The night shutoff is especially helpful since it is positioned in an alcove just outside of my bedroom door.
There is nothing more beautiful than a mechanical movement. It may not be as accurate or as cheap but is far more interesting than a boring old quartz movement. Plus if you remember to wind the weights enough, it will soon become second nature.
It's a bit like buying an expensive show cat, gutting it, and stuffing a robot cat in the skin. All because scooping the litter box is inconvenient. It doesn't make much sense to me, but whatever floats your boat.
This sounds just like a mechanical grandfather clock. Compared to other electronic grandfather clocks, which just has a very annoying sound, this sound as beautiful as a real mechanical grandfather clock.
I do have to say that most of the reasons for going electric are not issues in today's high quality mechanical movements, aside from mechanicals being more expensive. They give you an auto night time silent option; you can adjust the volume of the chimes by bending the brass hammer rods, designed for bending, and control volume to a great extent: you can silence the chimes and still have the hour strike, have both, or have an hour strike while the chimes are silenced; and now you can get a Kieninger movement that is self-winding. All that aside, it's a beautiful clock!
Very nice. Battery movements and mechanical movements both have their advantages and disadvantages, being that battery systems have more advantages in my opinion too. While a mechanical clock has the great old school workings of all its gears and parts, a battery operated clock has the convenience of function as well as its pricing point, not to mention it's quartz accuracy and hands off feature until setting for daylight savings time every six months. And once set, they are maintenance free.
Aesthetically good looking clock. But once you discover that it runs on a battery, it loses its charm instantly. A Mechanical grandfather clock is what will really connect you to the era where it actually came from and every chime will put a smile across your face.
if your gonna have a grandfather clock it has to be mechanical! (yes its more expensive but its a labor or love) My grandfathers clock was mechanical if you saw it stopped he was either fixing it or he has letting time catch up with it after he adjusted it (the weights never have hit bottom that i know of)
Very nice piece of work. It's neat converting a grandfather clock from a mechanical to an electric clock. I love how he made the pendelum seperate battery movement while the clock has 2 AA bateries. I've heard of a triple chime movement but it's cool how you can make it a quadruple chime movement. Wonderful job sir.
Yes it is more practical, but HOOHHH BOY did you make so many people mad in the comments 😂 I just find that funny how much of a controversy this stirred up lol
Wow. Very beautiful made! Just a shame you chose such a cheap movement. That movement looks like the cheap knockoff of the Rhythm - you can hear the copy is not quite as good. I presume it isn't as accurate too. Cheap quartz movements are quite bad at keeping time. Personally I'd chose a Hermle or Kieninger movement. Different style chimes but still mechanical in their sound if you like them is a matter of personal taste - but they're much more precise with their 4.19 MHz quartz vs cheapo 32 KHz
I heard the westminster chime melody. I think it sounds really beautiful with the tubes rather than regular chime rods. But I'm curious. You said I has 4 melodies. What are the other 3? Is the second chime a S. Michael and is the third chime a Whittington? If that's correct, what is the 4th chime? Beautiful work you did on the clock.
There are 4 melodies in a Grandfather Clock, Whittington, St. Michael, Westminister and Silent. Silent is really not a Melody. It just turns off The Grandfather Clock so it doesn't bother people who are light sleepers. January 27 2022
To all of the nay-sayers! I did this to my clock and it works great, no one would ever know it's now electric! Is a Tesla a car? yes it is, just different it's goes from point A to point B like any other car. Why is a clock any different! It requires almost No maintenance just battery changes every Year

He did what he was able to do - practical and beautiful. I wish I had that skill!
I prefer to keep this original if I were you.

and it will last a very long time... and they keep great time if timed accurately
It will make the owner more proud. I bet.
@@tuileriesantiques9057 yeah but what about performance?

Same here
Not everyone can afford them though
Excellent job!

At least it gets the job done
well done thank you for video
Does the Moon phase dial function?
Mechanical movements you can get on ebay for cheap
it just sounds like the rhythm movement

Pretty Battery Quartz Operated With Westminster Chime Grandfather Clock
Rhythm movement and I know because of the back and the sound as well.
We are considering converting our clock to electric. A service call is $250 while a conversion kit is somewhere around $70.
How can I obtain the plans for building this clock? Beautiful.
I have a electric wall clock, and a wind up mantel clock, and the wind up is more accurate than the electric
But still a good grandfather clock
You can buy used mechanical movements for 1/10 of the price
Just get a real wind up clock. You would enjoy it much more
Mine has an issue do u still respond ??
Do any quartz grandfather clock that use real chime rods ?
do yo need to have the pendulum on or can I run the mechanism without one
You Do Not need the pendulum only the movement, pendulum is only for show, it'll work fine without it.
What are the three other melodies this clock can do?

Agreed
Thanks, I am planning to do the same for mine :)
How are the tubes struck?
Very nice work.
Can you tell me what kit did you use for the pendulum ?
Thanks
Me gustan mas los relojes mecanicos por mucho.
But can you make one that runs on natural gas?
WTF??

@@dkintana well stupid newer battery operated movements usually have ave maria instead of st micheal.

Don, does the pendulum movement need battery?
Yes the pendulum movement is also electronic.
Where can I get the clock movement and the speakers?
I found the site klcokit, but its currently not available in Germany.
Mine was electric too
