The sound of strings, the beautiful voices of the singers, and the centerpiece of Hayley Westenra makes this rendition a masterpiece classic to listen to. Truly humanity is great in delivering great works as this. :)
i am a vietnam vet, become pacifist: this recording gives me chills every time I listen. Haley brings such innocence and beauty to it ... now i am tearing up egad
it is the Benedictus (latin prayer) from the setting by Karl Jenkins from his requiem for peace "The Armed Man" look it up on here its a stunning requiem
The Benedictus is part of the Roman Catholic mass, first sung in the 15th century high mass, and in the 16th Centurry, Palestrina wrote nearly 30 masses, so well before Mozart. Mozart's Requiem was unfinished and the Benedictus in that - a well-known one - was probably written by Sussmyr, who collaborated to finish the Requiem. Many well-known composers have therefore written versions: Verdi, Vivaldi, Haydn, Puccini etc, all had a go. I certainly like this one too.
As Jesus enters Jerusalem for the final time . . . (John 12:13; Psalm 118:26; Matthew 21:9; Luke 13:35; Mark 11:9-10). Blessed Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord Blessed Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord Hosana in the Highest Blessed Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord. (See also: Isaiah 6:3 & Revelation 4:8). It is why we have such peace when we listen. It is sung to God eternally.
Beautifull, perfection, no other word to describe it, the total combinations of sound's are just heavenly .Sarah Brightman is not in the same class, just my opinion.
is this song latin? it sounds like it, in fact a couple of the songs i've heard sung by her on Endless Ocean sound latin, am i correct? if not what language is it?
Lyrics: Benedictus (Benedictus) Qui venit in nomine Domini Benedictus (Benedictus) Qui venit in nomine Domini Hosanna in excelsis Hosanna in excelsis Hosanna in excelsis Hosanna in excelsis Benedictus (Benedictus) Qui venit in nomine Domini
Not for this type of music, which is why boy sopranos/trebles were always part of cathedral choirs, because of the accoustics, and Allegri and others made great use of that, Hayley can hit a high D, actually. I too like a rich deep basso, but that would be wrong for this: "Blessed are they who come in the name of the lord" isn't supposed to be melancholy, is it? For me, her perfect pitch, clear ton, and lack of operati vibrato are perfect.
Who is the guy singingin? And I love the "2 Cellos" version much better. If you watch and listen to that one, you will never want to hear another version. I promise!
Shylodragon, any competent voice teacher can teach a soprano to sing an effortless A...it is not a remarkable thing. Sopranos also sing B, C, D, and even E & F on some occasions. You CAN learn...this is a physical skill that just requires training, like an athlete or a dancer...it does cost money to have a good teacher but it is worth every penny. Do it, and you'll wonder why you waited so long. Save up...you would spend the money anyway on something else that will bring you far less joy!
Some Muslim was talking about it but he removed his messages. I could care less about prophets, none of them are right. Muslims believing Muhammad(PBUH) was the true prophet, Christians believing Jesus was, all that shit doesn't hold value with me. I thought I'd clarify because some Muslim brought up Christian-centric music and said Muhammad(PBUH) was right was the true prophet. People were being mean to him(us Americans) so I thought I'd help him out by clarifying.
I sing this in concert choir!! But it sounds WAYYYYYYYYY different. Actually I think our version is better not that this version or original isn't. It's just kinda boring after a while. She has a nice voice but I wished there was another melody of more lower voices. Hers was too high. But it was perfect, this woman should be a Celtic singer. They are called angel singers. Especially she'll fit in. Hey everyone look up CELTIC WOMEN! If you wanna see more perfect singing like this one. :)
Shows how much you know little flair she was actually part of Celtic Women, so the ext thing does your little group have a recording if Benedictus probably not🥱🥱🥱
Contrary to popular belief, and when I say that I mean the vast majority of us Americans(admit we're ignorant) don't know this but Muslims do believe that all prophets from Christianity and Judaism (including Jesus which they claim is not the son of god) are prophets but that they weren't told the whole truth by god. Muhammad(P.B.U.H.) is the true prophet. I'm humanist atheist.
Beautiful piece of music and Hayley's voice is flawless and the young tenor was excellent as well.
Just breathtaking. Flawless, musical perfection

She makes it look effortless. Absolutely stunning.
An angel unhinged its majestic beauty and power - to be witnessed by those of humble and clean spirit. Thank You for this gift.
Oh the joy of this, one of my favourite pieces of music and with her amazing rendition.

The Armed Man - Incredible.
I spoke too soon. The orchestra didn't come in with enough power that makes this song more than amazing. But her voice is still amazing.
@Blackguard9099 Karl Jenkins wrote this song. Hayley's version is a bit shorter than original, but she sings it with her amazingly beautiful style.
is this song latin? it sounds like it, in fact a couple of the songs i've heard sung by her on Endless Ocean sound latin, am i correct? if not what language is it?
Benidictus means latin prayer
Lyrics:
Benedictus (Benedictus)
Qui venit in nomine Domini
Benedictus (Benedictus)
Qui venit in nomine Domini
Hosanna in excelsis
Hosanna in excelsis
Hosanna in excelsis
Hosanna in excelsis
Benedictus (Benedictus)
Qui venit in nomine Domini
Oh my god , I want to marry this woman
musica classico/religiosa, combina com Hayley
Hayley eterna....
He's still here, go back a little, He's called Shield of David
OMFG!!! i'm sooo happy ^_^ Haley + the music of Karl Jenkins = AWESOMENESS XDDDDDDD
@6Subliminal She was part of Celtic Woman for a while.
i watched this just beacause skullkid3 mentioned it and i never heard it before
Latin truly id the best language on earth, Lingua Latina Maximus Est
Does anyone know if she covered this from an earlier version of Benedictus, or if this is an original version?
She can and has sung a high D in another track. "Quanta qualia"

I sing this in chrous! But, a little differently.
Is this in any movie soundtracks?
No but it's in a video game - Endless Ocean, on Wii

CW has ok voices, but they couldn't carry Hayley's sheet music.

Her voice is pleasant otherwise, but I feel that the 'hosanna in excelsis' climax is portrayed somewhat feebly.
