    I was going to buy a 240v to 12v wall adapter to power my radio but after watching this I had to try it. So I grabbed an old power supply out of a dead pc and it works a treat!
    Great video! Keep it up! 6 years later and your vids still helping people!

    this is perfect! you showed what ALL the wire colors are. I was watching another tut and he said "cut a connector and use the yellow cable" but like there are 2 yellow cables on this connector. thanks for letting me know all yellow wires are the same

    Thank you. The fact that you listed all the wire colour is very useful. I'm looking to use this in a project so its handy to have written close to hand.

    I do have a question...what can you do in order not to loose all the settings of the car stereo once you have done this. Is there a way to do that?

    • @LahisTechLT
      @LahisTechLT  5 лет назад

      Iohan Kellerman yeah. you have to connect standby wire to the 12v in your car. which means even though you turn off the key. car stereo standby. that’s common for all car stereos nowadays.

    • @iohanb211
      @iohanb211 5 лет назад +1

      @@LahisTechLT thank you, I had this problem in my car too, couldn't make it to work, always, after I took of the contact, the key, the stereo went off and all the setting lost next time I started the car. Very annoying problem.
      Is there any way to do this with the PSU? Like a battery or something?

    • @FoxFunk
      @FoxFunk 3 года назад

      Think putting a switch to control the power on/off should work.. making power to supply "switched" and use stanby wire so that its not l fully disconnected just switched off.. lime what hapoens when ur battery is disconnected or whatever and settings are lost

    The lowest amperage my psu puts out at 12v is 12amps however my car radio is rated at 10a there even is a 10a fuse. Would the fuse blow at 12amps or is there some sort of tolerance? Will I damage my radio?

    • @LahisTechLT
      @LahisTechLT  5 лет назад

      Not damaging your radio, the fuse will blow and protect your head unit. Try to lower the current btween 5-8A

    • @AndyMitchellUK26

      A power supply doesn't put out 12 amps, that is the MAXIMUM that a connected piece of equipment can draw. Amps and voltage are very different. Amps on a power supply need to be at least what the connected equipment require but can always be more (a 2 amp phone charger will only supply 1 amp to a phone that only needs 1 amp but will supply 2 amps to a phone that needs 2 amps). Voltage should NEVER be more OR less as it can overload or underload equipment. You may get away with a small variance on voltage by a volt at best but it's not ideal.

    Bro, help needing! I'm asking to myself if I must test de AMP before make the conection between the PSU and Radio?

    • @LahisTechLT
      @LahisTechLT  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, it depends on the PSU that you are going to use, because normally PSU 12V output line provides 10-15A which is an avarage current required to turn on a Car Radio. If you use 3-5A current source, you can't get much power through the Radio, I mean it will turn off when the volume is increased. Anyway, make sure to test the Amp before you connect it with the Radio.

      Check for a wire with constant power, if there are none, maybe get a stereo with internal storage so it keeps the memory stored.

    This is wrong do not hook the 3 wires from the radio to one yellow hook them to there own yellow wire and set the switch on the power supply to the lowest setting 110v or 115v will reduce fire hazard sending to much thru ur power supply the wires will over heat and u will have an electrical fire

      Thats not what i meant. I mean wire colors. Example. Ive seen some that the power was brown and power was white. Some stereos/most older ones dont have a power antenna wire and only have 1 blue wire which is the remote wire. I do actual car audio in cars. What these components (minus the power supply obv). are meant for.
