I actually just did this tonight. It worked great. I did some upgrades. I mounted PSU inside a speaker box and mounted the car radio on top of the speaker box.
cool video, but I had a laugh when you put the tape on top of the stereo because you didn't want to get electrocuted ????? Dude, you have a psu sitting on a metal washing machine!!!! But otherwise a good instructional video. thanks.
Very cool tutorial, reminds me the good old days when I was a kid. My friend's brother had an 8 track player (remember those) that he took with him everywhere. He rigged up a car charger to run the thing in his bedroom! It looked pretty funky, but man some great music poured out of that thing: Cream, Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers Band, Big Brother and the holding company, and some other really great stuff. Thanks for the tutorial!
Thanks! I need to do this, I have a nice Alpine car Radio/MP3 player that has been sitting around for 5 years after I bought a new truck. I could use this when I am working in the garage.
@playgenie but doesn't he say at 0.19 that you can't connect it to wall plug because it is 120volts? Don't know much about electricity forgive me if I'm wrong
The thing is those laptop power supply don't give alot of whatts for 120w you need 12v 10A and you are limited to 80W cause you can't go to max with it you need spare W best way is to mod one of these in a wooden case and put it all together nicely
i have a hug Q... i have a 12inch 13000w subwoofer from my car and have a home theater system in my home.. i want to use that sub on my 4.1 home theater bcoz i dont have the car's amplifier.. Problem> when i trun up the volume high the bas sound is get shaded and get low.. im not get any good bas from it... only subwoofer attached to my hometheater i disconnected its own sub.. bt still to heavy for the home theater.. what changes i could make to my home theaters amp to make it work..??
4 years late lol but suppose you still the set up you can go to any autopart store and buy an antenna kit plug it to the back as if you installed it on your vehicle and it should work
This works great! I didn't have a yellow coming off the same big plug like you so I used another from one of the other plugs and it works great! Very good video! Thanks!
YEA JUST GETTING TO GRIPS WITH ALL THE WIRING;THE WAY YOUVE EXPLAINED IS FABULAS THANKYOU,JUST GOT TO PUT ALL THIS IN MOTION FUNNY ENOUGH IVE GOT THE SAME CD FACEOFF [ALL GOOD]........WISH ME LUCK? ROBERT JONES
Afteing all this i joined my red and yellow and hooked it up. I got nothing. So i ran ared wire to positive and black to negative of my 12 volt converter . Then i took a wire attached it the yellow and when i touched it to the red it turned off the converter. If i touched it to the black the converter dtayed on but still no power to the radio:......HELP .
I have the plugs already cuted etc and all things but i dont know where to put it anyone can help me? the car stereo its not like this.. its Roadstar AM-393 I Need help where to put the 2yellows and 1 black plug
It works on my smps (12volt & 24 ampere ),but when volume is incresed it restarts the car amplifier ,i know that the issue is more ampere ,plz tell me how to reduce the amperage upto 6 amp... Thanks in advance
Nice idea on the cheap and for quick checks... but a deticated regulated DC power supply running +13.8v with at least 5amps, 10amps if testing a radio in conjunction with a small amplifier, would be much prefered.
Thank you for your wonderful video, just one question should I select the yellow and black from the same point or plug where we make a bridge between green and black?? Or I can take the yellow and black from any other plug that u just taped and kept it aside as a dummy stuff??
you can do this wihtout damaging the PSU what so ever( as i just did) connect green and a black from your 20+4 pin with wire or a paper clip and turn it on and it should kick on fans included. then just put the black from the stereo into a black and just touch your red and yellow to the yellow of your PSU should turn on. i wouldnt use it like this for very long however.
+Ian Hankins computer psu are pwm suppluies duss not recomendet for audio usage better of using a transformer and a bridge rectifire a car battery charger works well if you dont plan on using it a 100% than youre good with around 6-12amp but if you have a lets say 4x50 w than you want a 25-30a supplie and also if you have a big cap put it on the chardger too this will ensure clean power heck if youre really into it ad a coil to even more clean the power but yeah you dont want to use smps suplies
I want connect my car amplifier 2600w ,and two subwoofer 400w,how to connect in my home and how much voltage psc need for this amplifier? Please help me!
black wire is negative(-), yellow and red are positive (+). is that correct? and i need to know on how many amp (ah) is good for car stereo? 12v 5ah is this enough on it?
Great V!deo .... very neat.. thank you man! just want to know , how many 12V device i can use at a same time? if my 4 device all together 200w , needs 10A minimum , do you think it will work safely ? Thanks again ....
Kool video but is it safe to play with electric on top of washing machine. It's like everthing is touching metal surface i don't think electric tape will do any good but still good video.
I have a question, if anybody knows to answer I will be very pleased. Im planning to do the same thing, but has the mobile phone enough signal power to release the full potential of the amp? Because my amp is only 50x2 rms, and if the mobile phone signal is so weak, I wouldnt hear anything. Thanks in advance.
I've followed ur video step by step and wen I turn the PSU on the fan starts like it should but wen I connect the head unit up to it then its shorts out the PSU straight away why is it doing this ? great video by the way I just can't figure out how to get my one to work .
Great video, was able to test my clarion head unit i had laying under my bed for 5 years. Gonna install it in my new car. Just wanted to add, some head unit's have two yellow power cables, you just have to tie all 3 of them together (both yellows and the red)
Thanks so much man, The only problem I have with this video is that not every power supply is the same, but mine was so thank you, worked like a charm.
Excellent video my friend I have a wicked question for you I have done this to die and I've managed to run to stereos but I want to run six in total of the cables from the IP you which ones do I use
thanks bro, that was very helpful i thought i fried my stereo and bought a new one then i decided to test it and it so happens i got a computer laying in shambles in my spare bedroom ,tested that shit now im up 160. dollars
hi, used this video to convert my old car stereo for home use - worked very well. even the remote control worked! made a bad mistake by letting a speaker wire fall on top of the psu (should have been more careful & taped the connection). now the stereo will not power up & it smells at the back of unit. should i toss the stereo? thanks in advance for any help!
great video thanks , if you have the antenna connection as well if you desire the radio do you just plug it in to the back of the unit and mount the antenna in a free space ?
I actually just did this tonight. It worked great. I did some upgrades. I mounted PSU inside a speaker box and mounted the car radio on top of the speaker box.
So what wire would keep the power memory to the deck unit so that it doesn’t loose the memory setting
cool video, but I had a laugh when you put the tape on top of the stereo because you didn't want to get electrocuted ?????

But otherwise a good instructional video. thanks.
😂😂😂😂😂
You can't get electrocuted from any of this. It's 12V.
@@MrWolfSnack except for the psu.
Which is 120v
@@guy1654 In what purpose would you need to be jamming your hands inside the PSU?
Absolutely awesome!! Super simple tute. Thanks a heap!

More easy to buy a 12volt power supply from a charity shop they usually have loads of them , they are also used for media players old laptops etc
@playgenie but doesn't he say at 0.19 that you can't connect it to wall plug because it is 120volts? Don't know much about electricity forgive me if I'm wrong

+lorenc27 thanks for this informative vid. Suppose you want to play FM Radio on this car stereo at home, how to connect the antenna?

Thank you very much

Park your car in the garage on a battery charger at home who would want to take their radio out of their car and put it back in every time they drive?

It doesn't save my time and setting when i turn it off and on my setting aren't save
How do I prevent my settings being lost when I turn off PSU? I don't want it running 365 :)
There must be a way.
@The Stig's English cousin I ended up using Xbox power brick that's on all the time. It doesn't heat up at all and solves problem.
Thank You so much big respect goes to you I have a car simulator and wanted a car radio and from this tutorial it feels like a car Thanks again

Nice idea on the cheap and for quick checks... but a deticated regulated DC power supply running +13.8v with at least 5amps, 10amps if testing a radio in conjunction with a small amplifier, would be much prefered.
Its a good but i would of done it on a wood table instead of a washer machine
Looks easy but the electric bills looks high for doing that.

The spekers works bat when I make the stereo hight it doesn't work
but* high* louder*
Obviously, you are using more power than you are providing to the stereo.
Maybe your power supply really sucks. Mine is only 10A and I crank my stereo up all the time with no problem.
adyagiler lol

I got a question! Does that fan produce noise so as to impede the quality of music you listen to?Is it annoying or it's barely hearable.
I need a way to hook up a 9volt battery or something to retain memory of the radio station presets. Hook it up to the red wire on the stereo.
Awesome...I figured it thanks @ jimut. This won't for any reason start a fire or anything would it??
thanks m8,,works well except when i hook up the second set of speakers then it just screams crazy noises,, god knows what ive done wrong..
could write in a paper for example , left side p/c power----- right side car stereo the wires colours ? thanks a lot,
when i did this the radio boots up but doesnt stay on. would that be a bad psu? i had an old one laying around. wasnt sure if it had problems or not
my post code is LL229YZ in the uk
Well cant you just get a transformer that converts it from 120 to 12 and outputs DC?
do you have to pull plug to power off or can you had switch. and can i run 12volt lights to same wire?
What if my psu has two yellow wires???
Thanks so much man, The only problem I have with this video is that not every power supply is the same, but mine was so thank you, worked like a charm.
Excellent video my friend I have a wicked question for you I have done this to die and I've managed to run to stereos but I want to run six in total of the cables from the IP you which ones do I use
Are you Albanoamerican?
where in that car radio is the antenna connection?
There must be an easier way than all that wiring all I want to do is change to 40 volt to 12 volt
You only have to put together a couple wires lol.
is the green and diagonal black the remote trigger to power outside of computer???
Did you have any problem with static while using an auxiliary input?
Very nice. Simple and to the point. My old car stereo has a TV, I want to try and use that in my shed, wish me luck!
I have YET to see someone wire a car/home stereo system via splice & crimp..
I wonder what the missus thought about you using the top of her washing machine?
Wouldn’t it be easier to get a laptop charging cable and run the power wires to it?
put a wire in the antenna slot and put it on the stereo case (chassis) its works the same way
how much watts and amps i nees to run a cd player i want use all speakers slots 4 of them
wesome, very easy to follow, Now Just need to build the case.!!!!
Hey bro I connected it the way u said but the fan doesn't turn on

You need the password for the radio. Once you have that you need the button combination needed to unlock your radio. Should be in the owners manual

Can you use any black or yellow wire from your psu?
So, since you've had this hooked up and all you haven't had any fire issues at all? I just want to make sure it's not going to be a fire hazard :)
yeah if youre really into that and going to be running your car stereo 24-7 then crimp n solter 4mm2 wire :D
My wife hate's when I use her washer as a work bench.
