Might be a year late but I love your reaction to Ted Lasso! It's amazing how Ted Lasso has actually made a lot of non football/soccer loving Americans enjoy the show.
By the way, I'm English and allow me to explain what Roy Kent meant when he called Jamie Tartt a "Bellend": a Bellend is a British slang term for the tip of the penis. So the meaning of the insult "Bellend" literally translates to "you're the tip of a penis" basically meaning "you're a dickhead". Just thought I'd explain😅

Anthony Head played his first Rupert in Buffy as Rupert Giles Buffys Watcher/ father figure. Who you love and on occasion crush on him unlike here. Is was hard to hate him here in the start. I would be so fascinated to get a film student's perspective on Buffy, which forever changed teen drama / supernatural shows. The first season leans hard into the deliberate campy tropes of the genre since it was filling a half-season gap in the line-up, but once they knew they had a full season to play with, the characters developed in really fascinating ways!

0:58 I also have never watched the last 2 episodes of Game of Thrones, although I know what happens, and I do indeed feel like I'm among the lucky ones. I've an interesting story as to why I skipped those last 2 episodes (well, interesting to me anyway).
The thing is, "Mad Queen Danny" was a popular fan theory that'd been floating around the internet that I was aware of. I'd watched the first 4 episodes of that final 6-episode season, and there was a lot of heavy foreshadowing (character development!) in the 4th episode, that "Mad Queen Danny" was indeed the route the show was going with, which is not the ending I wanted.
The week the 5th episode aired, I had a close family relative who was scheduled to undergo some surgery, and there were reasons to be extra worried about the outcome of that surgery (it went off without a hitch, and everything was fine afterwards). So I was under a lot of stress leading up to that surgery. And on the day the 5th episode aired, I asked myself, "Do I really want to watch something that could really anger/depress me when I have enough stress as it is?" I decided I really didn't want that, so not only did I not watch that episode, but I stayed out of social media for that entire week. If I was on the internet, I was always looking up things about the past, not the present, and I shied away from anything that had anything to do with GoT. The day the last episode aired, I deliberately waited until that last episode finished airing, then I looked up spoilers. As I read what happened in those last 2 episodes, I thought to myself, "Yeah, I'm good. I don't need to watch any of this crap." I have an odd sense of gratitude to that close family member.

Popping in late with this but I believe 'bellend' refers to something, the end of which resembles a bell -- if you get my drift. Indian food is quite popularin England. I was born and raised in Kansas, like Ted and Jason Sudeikis and not all that familiar with Indian food when I was working for a few weeks near Birmingham, UK consulting on a software project. That company's CFO, who was Scottish, explained it to me like this: England doesnt actually have its own cuisine so they had to colonize one.

The thing about obscenities, or invective, or any language is that if it is used too much it loses its meaning, its potency. Think of the word, "awesome". It's meant to convey the mood of stunned silence as if you got a glimpse of God. Imagine if you use it merely to describe the relief of getting into a cold shower on a hot day. Or more mundane, putting on a pair of shoes that fit. We're lowering the bar to the point of making the word homogenous. Soon language is boring. Throw in a "fuck" periodically, but well targeted and it will surprise and impact.
"Language is like men beating on cracked kettles for bears to dance to, when we long to make music that will melt the stars." Gustav Flaubert

Lol GoT's final season was all garbage, not just the last two episodes. The show went downhill after deviating from the source material (and GRRM still hasn't written more). Should have ended with everyone dying and the Night King sitting on the throne haha.

I mean, hard disagree on the ending there, but very much so agree about the complete NOSEDIVE the show took after they went off-book. We’ll probably be doing the upcoming spinoff, join us for the hate watch! - Sam

What shows could I not finish? One that comes to mind is "Riverdale". The 1st season actually pretty good. It's a concise 13 episodes and it manages to make its characters compelling. With the 2nd season, however, they expanded it to 22 episodes and had to pad a lot of storytelling because of it, with couples breaking up and getting back together for no reason. Plus the main arc, with one character's dad becoming a serial killer for no reason was really stupid. I kept with for a few episodes into the 3rd season, but I just really didn't care anymore and stopped watching. I hear it's become even more of a mess since then.
Another was "2 Broke Girls". The two lead actresses were funny, but then Jennifer Coolidge joined the cast with this terrible Eastern European accent and her character was so profoundly annoying that I had to stop.
Finally, as someone who grew up with Star Trek, I tried to get into "Star Trek: Picard", but I just couldn't. It just does connect with the shows I watched when I was younger.

I never got into 2 Broke Girls or was much of a Trekkie, but I completely agree about Riverdale. I've actually said the same thing to people many times. The first season was a great small town mystery drama, with just the right amount of camp. It knew what it was, and that's why it was good. But in the second season, they changed everything about it that worked, and like you, I tried to persevere but gave up pretty quickly. It's unfortunate when a good things gets ruined from within.

Although several series suffered notable declines in their later seasons (Lost, Walking Dead, and True Blood come to mind) no other show ever self-immolated quite like Game of Thrones did. GoT's heinous 8th season was a crime against humanity.

Couldn’t agree more. I was counting down the minutes to the final season, and by the time we were halfway through, I was just waiting for it to be over. I didn’t even want to watch anymore. If you haven’t seen the Pitch Meeting for Season 8, it helped heal my soul a bit after the trauma. ❤️ Jacqui

@@theshamelist That "Pitch Meeting" video was hilarious, had never seen it before. Benioff & Weiss are the most overrated hacks in all of Hollywood; I hope they crash and burn at Netflix.
