I absolutely adore this video from you, Brandon. The script, narration, editing-these aspects and more culminate into something worthwhile of your pride. On SMB Wonder itself, I 100%'d it this last Sunday and had a blast. Told myself prior to launch I'd turn off the flowers, but kept them on a while to see if they'd be as annoying in practice. Ended up liking them. I'm usually an offline, single-player type of gamer, but this game's style of online had me curious to try it, and likewise to the flower, I loved it and kept it enabled. It feels so good to help others in the game, and there have been more than a few times others have helped me. There was a point during one particular gauntlet, I had a "buddy"-a total stranger playing as Daisy as I played as Peach, and we waited for each other before using the end warp pipes. We got separated eventually (skill issue on my part), but moments like that made the experience playing it all the more memorable. It was even one of their standees that saved my first successful run long after they'd left. It was funny, too, seeing who else was grinding the first Jet badge trial for purple coins for the guaranteed-new standees. I must repeat: You did an awesome job on this video, and I wholly support whatever should inspire you next. You and the other channel partners-keep it up!!
I really like how some of the badges correlated with power-ups, like using the drill mushroom with crounching high jump and the bubble flower with floating jump
Loving the energy of this video and indeed have been really appreciating the channel's output lately - keep it up, you're a great bunch doing a great job ❤
8:45 To be fair, When I talked to him I was playing the whole game as Daisy so it WAS his first time talking to her. Same with the Yoshis and Nabbit. I guess they didn't want to add more Dialogue Options.
Awesome to see Brandon's solo video debut! Great stuff. The channel has such a great balance of content types thanks to everyone's unique styles and tastes. Keep it up fellas! ❤
One thing not mentioned but I really enjoyed is the badges take the place of character specific abilities. That's why they all play the same, which is great. Now if you want Luigis flutter jump but like to play as Mario you just equip the badge for that.
I haven't played the game yet but from what I've heard about the Airships, it makes me wish there was a tough battle at the end. Besides a few obstacles and never ending enemy mob spawns, imagine having to fight a Koopaling at the same time. They could of added the same number of ships per Koopaling and every ship had a stronger mob then the next based on Bowser's catalog of minions. The difficulty for some would have been insane, but the challenge would've been appreciated.
Really fun video! I super agree that the boss fights (except the final one) could’ve been more plentiful. I was so disappointed to finish some of the worlds just to see that they literally just hand you a Royal Seed, with no boss guarding it. I feel like there could’ve been bosses that you fight in different Wonder forms (like the Goomba, Rolling Spike Ball or Goo forms), but oh well. The rest of the game is fantastic.
The one flaw with this game is the bosses with exception of the final boss. For a game that ooze with so much charm and creativity, it is underwhelming how the bosses aren't that. Other than that, this game us brilliant and its definitely one game I can play for hours upon hours. 9/10.
My biggest problem with New Super Mario Bros, outside of the original on the DS, Is that Nintendo tried way too hard to play it safe. This was during an era where they didn't take a whole lot of risks. And as a result, yes, the series did indeed get stale. And from what I heard, the developers had a very rigid rulebook they were supposed to follow when developing the NSMB series.
Disappointed most of the video isn’t in Brandon’s Mario voice /s Very glad to see Brandon’s get his own video. Having him do the Mario Wonder review makes so much sense.
The Special levels are great! eSPECIAL-ly when played at the end of each world, like I did. It gives that ultimate finish, eSPECIAL-ly with those bossless worlds.
Awesome review Brandon! Also even though Kevin did an outstanding job as the new voice of M&L, you're still the top candidate to be Mario's next voice actor!
this game is everything I've ever wanted in a new 2D Mario entry, and I'm so glad it lived up to my expectations because it is without a doubt the best game I've ever played
If New Super mario bros on the DS was meant to evolve the NES classics after there was a 2d absence for a while, then id think its safe to say Super mario bros Wonder evolves the super nintendo titles. Between its artstyle being reminiscent of the old box art/instruction booklets, levels not having a timer, and the transformations, I could see a lot of comparisons made to Yoshis Island. The overworld map, abilities, power ups, and just the overall movement definitely feels like im playing a sequel to Super mario World. Heck, this game can be played with the SNES NSO controller and works great.
So uh, funny story, I didn't realize that the final Badge gauntlet was a thing until watching this video and assumed that I had beaten every level in the game. In hindsight, I suppose I should've expected that collecting all the big purple coins and hitting the top of every flagpole would unlock something, but I was thrown off because it seemed like the big purple coins only served as extra currency and didn't unlock anything else. I have since gone back and beaten the final stage, so thanks. I guess.
I love that the game is essentially just "wow, people are really creative when we let them loose with a creation tool. I guess we've got to get creative too!" Looks super fun though
Nah Ok I listed my Wonder Gripes through 100%ing the first 3 Worlds So I guess spoilers? -Some level and enemy gimmicks are bad/tedious -Variety for the sake of variety also doesnt mean good to me -Some levels just waste your time : example- the hidden block "puzzles" these are Mario Maker troll levels -Many levels are so one way on rails, oop you missed the thing, repeat entire level lol -More cutscenes doesnt automatically equal good cutscenes if they are bad/slow -Cloud Pirahnas? -rhythm based levels 😬 -NPCs waaaay too chatty Especially Master Poplin & Prince Florian 🙄 -Overall feels less replayable? Maybe badges help that vibe though, certainly not looking forward to so much chatting as I unlock stuff. NO I DONT WANT TO WEAR THE EFFING BADGE, I KNOW HOW TO SWITCH BADGES STOP ASKING ME -Boss fights so far: Bowser Jr (was cool) The conveyor belt on the ship uh why? Bowser Jr again was actually cool Literally Nothing!? Just nothing So all that said its still a VERY charming game that looks beautiful and its animated well Badges are a such a clever idea to mix stuff up, even if a few are wasted Most of the music is good to great, castle & underground being weaker examples but overall its awesome I am having a mostly great time but so much fat could be trimmed/improved So many good ideas to outweigh the lesser ideas or even the poorly designed levels that occasionaly pop up Also, removing the timer in most levels was a good choice in this more wacky exploration based game Yeah, Its vibing like an 8.5 or 9/10 for me
So excited to finally start this tomorrow now I’ve finished Spider-Man. Not sure I’ve ever seen such unanimous agreement of a Mario game being a “best”. Certainly not from a 2D. I’m sure my skepticism will be eviscerated immediately.
Only completed up through World 1 so far. It's surprisingly meaty for being so early on! Spider-Man's eating up my time. Love the Brandon review; very eloquent!
I appreciate where you're coming from, but cmon, man, you know just as well as I do that Yoshis Island is a Yoshi game, not a Mario game. I don't care what the subtitle says. Don't be intellectually dishonest.
Yeah. It is better then 3 and world. Yoshi’s island is a tougher comparison though given how different it is. Sorry, but I find it hard to believe that most people would call 3 and world the better games if they were released today. And YES, I am looking it through that lens as it’s the fairest way of judging the game’s actual quality.
@callinater6133 Now I do find myself wondering what people would think of 3 and World if they were graphically (not art style but using 3d models) similar to Wonder and how they'd compare if nothing else was different. I think World would compare somewhat favorably. But 3... i dunno. And i absolutely love that game.
@@ravenebony2267 eh, I disagree. World’s level design is not as strong as wonder and the powerups are also lacking compared to wonder, which already didn’t have that many powerups, but unlike world wonder had badges to make up for it. The bosses aren’t great in either game. I can’t really think of anything world handled better besides secret exits tbh.
24:29 too soon to declare Super Mario bros wonder as the best 2D Mario, wait 10/20 years and yes you can declare Super Mario bros wonder as the best 2D Mario, you are full of recency bias to state this
I'd say this is the best 2d mario by far but i wanna make a distinction. This is NOT as big of an achievement as SMB1 or SMB3 at the time. The equivalent of that would be if Mario wonder was like the craziest fucking shit you'd ever seen, completely unprecedented. This is still technically "a better game" but mario wonder isnt like a FUCKING ANGEL DESCENDING FROM THE SKY into culture like past 2d marios. Botw and oddysey were like world shattering games. so its not impossible. This just isn't a relatively equal leap.
There was a lot of immediate bias to this game but I'm already seeing a lot of fall off for it. The hype for such a positively critiqued game is gone already. It's bizarre really. People have moved on. I guess that's what happens when a game is so short. People's attention spans match it. That's why I'm having trouble with peoples claims that it's a "masterpiece" or that it's on a par with Super Mario World or Mario bros 3. I'm old enough to have been around when those games released and they were played and talked about for a very long long time after they released. They were the best games avaible at the time on any platform and better than everything that had gone before them. I enjoyed Mario Wonder but it was a short lived experience and now I'm going to be playing Dave the diver tomorrow that I know I will enjoy more and for much longer. I love all the hosts on this channel! which is kinda surprising considering im a bit picky with the youtubers I enjoy watching.
Great job guys!
Is this Brandon's first full-on video? Congratulations! And I've been loving everything about Mario Wonder so far!
i thought you were dunkey for a moment
Ok good I’m not the only one
Sounds nothing like him, wtf

At the risk of incurring Jon's wrath, I'll say that your assessment of this joyous game is indeed WONDERFUL, Brandon.
Great job on the review Brandon. Man how lucky are we to have GVG where everyone is a joy to watch. Wishing everyone continued success!
I really like how some of the badges correlated with power-ups, like using the drill mushroom with crounching high jump and the bubble flower with floating jump
You did an awesome job with this review, Brandon!
Brandon absolutely knocked his first solo video out of the park.
Loving the energy of this video and indeed have been really appreciating the channel's output lately - keep it up, you're a great bunch doing a great job ❤
A FULL BRANDON VIDEO?! LETS GOOOOOOO
😂 oh my
Terrible comment. Great video though
Wow, this was exceptionally good! Editing, pacing, storytelling. Amazing Job Brandon, such a joy to watch 😊
Those aren't mushroom caps, those are their heads. It even says so in one of the loading screen flavor texts.
15:04 You can still be that player in this game, and *_eff_* you if you are, because you can still throw turtle shells at your friends.
I think the Elephant power up comes from the whole "Elephants can't jump" thing.
I want to see way more of these Miracle World videos. Incredible work.
8:45 To be fair, When I talked to him I was playing the whole game as Daisy so it WAS his first time talking to her. Same with the Yoshis and Nabbit. I guess they didn't want to add more Dialogue Options.
Great video! Clearly a lot of effort went into this
Why you gotta put Mikayla on blast like that? 😂😂😭😭
Awesome to see Brandon's solo video debut! Great stuff. The channel has such a great balance of content types thanks to everyone's unique styles and tastes. Keep it up fellas! ❤
1:10 when the video started, I thought "it's a MIRACLE to see a Brandon video"
The Jon interruption was perfect lololol
Such a great video Brandon! (I was not ready for that “jumpscare” 😂)
The editing in this video is so good, I love the green screen gags
Nah, I don't like those
Love all the little editing jokes peppered in throught this video! Props to the video editor...
which also happens to be the person talking. Huh.
I love this game so far!! Harkens back to Super Mario World in so many ways. That was my childhood game too ❤️
When the trailer for this game first premiered, I wasn’t thrilled about the game, but everything I’ve heard/seen has really changed my tune!
One thing not mentioned but I really enjoyed is the badges take the place of character specific abilities. That's why they all play the same, which is great. Now if you want Luigis flutter jump but like to play as Mario you just equip the badge for that.
He actually does bring it up! 05:45

I turned myself into a castle, junior! I'm castle bowser!
Great video, Brandon! Wonder is amazing, and makes me very much look forward to the future of the IP with the risks it takes.
1:03 This is the most unhinged I’ve seen from Jon.
The Wii pentagon conspiracy is affecting him.
2:53 You should have said "super tall fungis"
Really fun video! I super agree that the boss fights (except the final one) could’ve been more plentiful. I wish the last badge was Charles Martinet voicing again
Brandon great job :)!!! I would looooooooove to see your jeopardy come back!!
This game definitely is a WONDERful time. Truly the best 2D Mario game we had in a while. They really cooked with this game
Best 2d mario *ever* imo.
Wait... Poplins!? As in poppies!?
Mushrooms...
Poppies...
What's next, Nintendo? The Kushions of the Dank Dank Kingdom!?

I never played the NSMB levels in Mario Maker. Only ever played Mario World and SMB3 style levels from my era back in the day.

Wonder if the Final final level was inspired by Yooka Laylee's Impossible Lair.
Brandon´s first full vid made me smile , just wonder....*john stares* , cool
Awesome review Brandon! Also even though Kevin did an outstanding job as the new voice of M&L, you're still the top candidate to be Mario's next voice actor!

I thought this was a dunkey collab LMAOOO
Funny how GVG and Nintendolife both have a 25 minute video praising Super Mario Bros Wonder 🤣
If New Super mario bros on the DS was meant to evolve the NES classics after there was a 2d absence for a while, then id think its safe to say Super mario bros Wonder evolves the super nintendo titles. Is this Dunky's burner account?
Do your part to end cringe culture.
Keep the flower voices on.
Great video Brandon!! Love your style
this is a amazing edited video, god dang
Best new 2D Mario game in 11 years for sure.
So you’re saying it’s worse than the last 2d mario lol
Nice use of greenscreen with the editing, Brandon!

This is an adorable review. Perfect for the younger demographic.
Need more Brandon reviews. Like the game being reviewed it had a lot of style and wonder to it
How did I not see those poplins as toads in disguise?!
I loved this video Brandon. You did a fantastic job!
Excellent review. I'm excited to come back and watch the spoiler section after I get through the game!
Great job on this video, guys. Well done, Brandon.
Awesome work Brandon! Love it
Are you referring to Wireless Multiplayer when you just say Multiplayer? Because Local Multiplayer is pretty much just like New Super.
Brandon, my dude! You put so much so much into this. thank you. 🤠💜‼️
I love that the game is essentially just "wow, people are really creative when we let them loose with a creation tool. I guess we've got to get creative too!"
Looks super fun though
Heck yeah, a Mario vid with Brandon!
thought Brandon was Jesse Cox for a second
Great video Brandon!
Host is so cute and charming in this!
This game "Wonder" make gamers get high because Nintendo developers is on high for making a new Super Mario Bros games.
The editing in this video is so freaking charming. It made me smile so much.
Gosh Brandon brought so much joy to my life with this little video. ❤️
I would say Jon is a national treasure but that says so little...
Great video!
won't comment but the whole game feels very musical should we say even the sound effects are musical so defo a theme which they nailed
What up Uncle Bradon
WONDERFUL
Nah
Ok I listed my Wonder Gripes through 100%ing the first 3 Worlds
So I guess spoilers?
-Some level and enemy gimmicks are bad/tedious
-Variety for the sake of variety also doesnt mean good to me
-Some levels just waste your time : example- the hidden block "puzzles" these are Mario Maker troll levels
-Many levels are so one way on rails, oop you missed the thing, repeat entire level lol
-More cutscenes doesnt automatically equal good cutscenes if they are bad/slow
-Cloud Pirahnas?
-rhythm based levels 😬
-NPCs waaaay too chatty
Especially Master Poplin & Prince Florian 🙄
-Overall feels less replayable? Maybe badges help that vibe though, certainly not looking forward to so much chatting as I unlock stuff. NO I DONT WANT TO WEAR THE EFFING BADGE, I KNOW HOW TO SWITCH BADGES STOP ASKING ME
-Boss fights so far:
Bowser Jr (was cool)
The conveyor belt on the ship uh why?
Bowser Jr again was actually cool
Literally Nothing!? Just nothing
So all that said its still a VERY charming game that looks beautiful and its animated well
Badges are a such a clever idea to mix stuff up, even if a few are wasted
Most of the music is good to great, castle & underground being weaker examples but overall its awesome
I am having a mostly great time but so much fat could be trimmed/improved
So many good ideas to outweigh the lesser ideas or even the poorly designed levels that occasionaly pop up
Also, removing the timer in most levels was a good choice in this more wacky exploration based game

Thank you for the spoiler warning, as I have yet to get my last Royal seed. I shall now take my leave. Thank you for your time
C'mon guys. Is it better than Super Mario 3? Super Mario World? Yoshi's Island? Is it really?
