You mentioned that the real Punky Brewster was named Peyton but failed to mention that it wasn't the character Punky's first name. Punky was a nickname her first name was actually Penelope and she hated it.
There was a diskette with messages of good luck and and the names of numerous girl scouts (Brownies) these girls made for McAuliffe. My cousin being a Brownie then was involved with it and apparently it was given to McAuliffe and was on the shuttle when it exploded. Not really significant but just something random I thought might be interesting. We didn't watch it in school but the principal came into our class to inform the teacher. She was started by the news. A friend of mine, a black kid who always sounded like he needed to clear his throat actually laughed a bit before repeatedly saying, "Thumbody thabotaged it"! I'm sure he thought it was Cobra from G.I.Joe. His favorite cartoon.
The Challenger episode is called "Accidents Happen". It was aired in early March of 1986, a little over a month after the disaster. Buzz Aldrin had a part in that episode. I was home from work with the flu the day it happened. CNN had it live, and I taped it. Still have the tape to this day. (Jan Griffiths).
I had a chance to be in the audience of the taping of the first Punky Brewster in 1984. I went to the NBC ticket counter where they had tickets for David Horowitz’s syndicated consumer show, or some show called Punky something. It sounded like a kids show (I was in my mid-20s), so I opted for David. I later saw that Punky reveals to Henry in the premiere that her mother never came back after leaving her in a car and going into a shopping center. That would have been very powerful and maybe difficult for me to see; I was just then dealing with similar issues from my early childhood. Still, Punky Brewster was a very nice show.
And there was something about one of Soleil's kids embarrassing her in public, by hanging around her singing the Punky Brewster theme. So, it'd been somewhat of a turnaround from her recognizing Fred for being Herman.
Soleil Moon Frei has spoken about her breast reduction surgery on several occasions. The poor woman was often referred to as Punky Boobster. I happen to think she still looks great and loved her character Roxie on Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Henry was a "reluctant" foster father for less than an episode. By the time Punky went home with him when the judge made him her foster parent, he was 100% happy to have her. And, at the end of the second season, he formally adopted her, which made him her bona fide father.
I watched this show as a kid growing up. I thought I was so cool when my big sister bought me the same sunshine hair elastics & I'd wear pig tails too!! I miss my childhood.... & my big sister! RIP TLC xo
Back in the 90's Soleil Moon Frye made a movie called Miracle of St. Tammany which was filmed in Louisiana and her mother hired me as her personal security. She had been hanging out in a local bar and I was head of security and met her and the others actors like Mark Paul Gossler and Jamie Luner. She was under 21 but Louisiana was the last state with 18 year old drinking age. She was a very talented actress but very difficult to work for.
The film, which premiered on Hulu last week, features home videos, voicemails, audio records and diary entries preserved by the 44-year-old Punky Brewster actress. Among other revelations, she opens up about her past relationship with Charlie Sheen, 55, to whom she lost her virginity..
I loved the reboot on Peacock! I hope there's another season. And how do you sue a 10 year old for $80M, in the 80s no less? Hollywood is trash for that.
It was probably just an empty threat because California doesn’t allow lawsuits against anybody under the age of 18. If they were dumb enough to try it, it probably would have gotten thrown out and they would have ended up having to pay her
that moment they rehash old shows, in hopes of nostalgia winning over old fans, only to find out they are pissed because there was no need to rehash it, here you go people hollywood is devoid of any new ideas.
I remember dtressing up as Punky Brewster for Halloween when i was abt 8 yrs old. Older ppl didn't realize i was dressed up, and i felt so cool bc ppl thought that was how i actually dressed 😂
I worked on all four years and directed some in the last year..what you didn’t reveal is that Soleil got to choose her own name. So did her brother, Meeno.

My fave as a kid. Watched every episode.
Punky Brewster was my favorite kids show.
My first crush!
I’m born in 2011 but I sill wached it
One of the best sitcom ever created.

I lived for Punky Brewster as a child .. wanted to dress like her and have that awesome room !
I believe Melissa Joan Hart's major start was Clarissa Explains It All on Nickelodeon not Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
I wonder how history would be change if Hart got the role of Brewster.

That Challenger episode hit hard because I was going to Christa McAuliffe elementary at the time and that was how I learned about her

They just don't make shows like Punky anymore. Wholesome, heartwarming and fun! She was the best! ❤
Wholesome?!?! It was a pretty deep dark story-leaving your kid at a supermarket, foster care etc.
@@Netti103
Eh it was the 80s. Every show back then was dark and disturbing. Writers didn't care who they traumatized.
I haven't seen this show in forever,, I love punky so much. 😭😭

It’s a shame the revival series has been canceled because it’s fantastic. I’m hoping another network picks it up.
