I discovered karnivool because i was listening to sleeping satellite on the radio and i thought "hey, a rock cover of this song would be great!". So i found this on youtube and it was a very original cover, it wasn't what i was expecting, so i started listening to their music and became addicted. Now i have all of their albums thanks to this song.
i discovered Karnivool because a dog came up to me once and made a noise that sounded like "KARNI" and then I played a game on the amiga later that day called "Zool" and I was just thinking to myself, wow, wouldn't it be cool if there was a band called KARNI ZOOL?! So i took off my pants and typed in KARNIZOOL into the internet and now im a fan and have many tshirts and albums. Thanks for saving my life Karnizool
Man I totally LOVE how some Lead Guitarists are 2nd (backing) Vocals and are TOTALLY UNDERESTIMATED... and suddenly the band decides to let them sing and we get such amazing LEAD singers just like Mark! Karnivool has real talent One by One...
I still remember my brother and I rocking out to this on the computer at my parents house after downloading it from Limewire. Fucking memories, man. One of my favourite covers of all time FOR SURE! 🤘😎
I've literally played this song ten times over. I just can't get enough of Mark's vocals. He may not have the beautiful, harmonious voice that Ian has, but damn he can deliver a performance. He should really feature more in Vool's other songs.
Codec are amazing the vocalist Greg Norris was in the band 32 Leaves after Codec he joined two other bands (M.E.N.D and Retina) 32 Leaves are actually back recording new material
@@awkander I don't think Ian Kenny (Lead Singer of Karnivool and BOT) Sings this cover, I think it's one of the other members of the band - you can hear Ians backing vocals though.
This was a nice find indeed. I heard the Tasmin Archer song playing today in the background so thought I would revisit it - then found this - VERY nice.
Absolutely brilliant cover :) Take an allready brilliant pop song and cover it like this is rare. Shall I say that this album is in heavy rotation on my stereo ;)
I love this cover! However, the lyrics are wrong in the description. This is how they should be: I blame you for the moonlit sky And the dream that died With the eagles flight I blame you for the moonlit nights When I wonder why Are the seas still dry? Don't blame this sleeping satellite Did we fly to the moon too soon? Did we squander the chance? In the rush of the race The reason we chase is lost in romance And still we try To justify the waste For a taste of man's greatest adventure I blame you for the moonlit sky And the dream that died With the eagles flight I blame you for the moonlit nights When I wonder why Are the seas still dry? Don't blame this sleeping satellite Have we lost what it takes to advance? Have we peaked too soon? If the world is so green Then why does it scream under a blue moon? We wonder why If the earth's sacrificed For the price of it's greatest treasure I blame you for the moonlit sky And the dream that died With the eagles flight I blame you for the moonlit nights When I wonder why Are the seas still dry? Don't blame this sleeping satellite And when we shoot for stars What a giant step Have we got what it takes To carry the weight of this concept? Or pass it by like a shot in the dark Miss the mark with a sense of adventure I blame you for the moonlit sky And the dream that died With the eagles flight I blame you for the moonlit nights When I wonder why Are the seas still dry? Don't blame this sleeping satellite
Maybe it's not the best thing to say here but Mark Hosking has such a unique and haunting voice. He is better than Ian IMO. He shoud totally start a band in which he sings... Or he can sing one or two songs on Karnivool albums. Anyways we need to hear more of these golden vocals!
Tuna Öztürk I agree with you that he has a fucking awesome voice, but to me Ian takes the cake. I see you have a European name of some kind and I notice a lot of good prog that I hear out of Europe has singers like this. Maybe it’s a cultural preference? Either way I love them both! Bjorn Strid is a beast
Hmm I don't know if it's a cultural thing but it's a fact that my all time favourite singer is Katatonia's singer and he is a European. So maybe :) Somehow his voice sounds deeper.
Ilmam Mourtada A song can, from a subjective standpoint, be better than the original if it is sung in different genre than the original track (or with different instruments), as that genre pleases the particular listener more...
I can think of a few honorable mentions: Tool's cover of No Quarter by Led Zeppelin Metallica's cover of Turn the Page by Bob Seger Karnivool's cover of The Only Way by Gotye In ALL instances of the aforementioned covers, the "new version" added something that was entirely different from the original, and in so doing, the cover-band made it their own, for the better. As they say, imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
Jon Stockman, their bassist, has played on every Karnivool release: their EP Persona (heavily underrated), and their three masterpieces, Themata, Sound Awake, and Asymmetry. I honestly think he is the special sauce and the secret weapon for the Vool! 🤘
This is a very good cover, although I still prefer the Tasmin Archer original myself - and I'm a fan of Karnivool as well. For those that are looking to track down this song, the Themata single/EP contains Sleeping Satellite as a b-side of sorts. Wouldn't mind tracking this down actually. :)
Wait, what? I own downloaded this album off iTunes and it wasn't included. is it only on the physical copy because it's not even listed on their Google page
Anyone else still coming back to listen to this one? Damn it’s good
Hell yeah, I listen often
2024 still listening 🖤
This song isn't in Themata and it's not sung by Ian Kenny?
Constantly, still annoyed it's not on spotify 😭🥺
Come back again for the gazillionth time! I cannot tell you how much I love this!!!
Surely one of the best covers of all time...
This is a cover?
Don’t let that song vanish. It deserves to live forever in performance of another artists
Fucken hey, it’s beautiful
Why another artist i'm the artist
Absolutely,its so nostalgic 🤘🏻
I have been a fan for two decades and I have never heard this til now😮
Me neither ..... What a shock.. 😮 and i Always loved the original, i am shocked, this is pure beauty
Some 18yrs later, I keep coming back to this. Vool just hit it on the head

100 percent! I feel this way about System's hypnotise and mesmerize where Daron Malakian does some great vocal work :)
I adore the Tasmin Archer original, but I love the rock vibe on this cover. Karnivool did a fantastic job with this song!
try bryan rice

Not on spotify for some stupid reason! Best cover ever!
Shani lie
Itunes neither...
Troy Starkey agreed
lets start a petition! haha

All these music platforms, and NONE of them carry this brilliant cover version! 😞
Best cover ever. And not just cos its Karnivool!
Damn, I wish Mark would've sing some tracks on Karnivool. It's not too late, maybe on the next album...
Holy shit, didn't realise hoss had this golden voice O.O
Kudos to that man
This is how you do a cover! It has the raspiness of the original vocals.. they did the song/original vocalist justice :)
This needs to be on Amazon music. AMAZING cover!
I've still got my CD signed by all the guys. I can't believe it's been 22 years already!
im pleasantly surprised to find covers of this song. im glad this band actually re-arranged it and made it their own

If the Grammys had a category for best cover this would win
Karnivool A+
Cannot stop playing this song. Shame it's not on ITunes. Brilliant cover
I love this song like Forrest Gump loved Jenny.
This band is absolute fire
Karnivool just made this song even catchier.

How can this not be on iTunes. Outrageous
3:06 to 3:26 My favourite part of the song. Wish they'd played it 2x or 3x.
Bruhhh I don't normally like covers but this is such a bangeeeeer, I love both now

Cool ... --- this song is already beautiful .. how ever they gave justice on sweet rock cover,,
Now I wanna hear the original because of how beautiful this is...
The original is a underrated gem of a pop song. Sounds a bit like a mix of Sade, Seal and Savage Garden
This is beautiful cover. Nice job guys x
que buen cover hombre!!!!
Really wish this was on itunes
Good work... Excellent cover song... 👏👏👏🙏👍
Gran versión. Justo q ayer decía que el tema de tasmin Archer tenía que estar en versión rock. Y acá lo tenemos

this is Tasmin Archer's version. Karnivool omitted the last verse and chorus and replaced it with the outro and "whooah"
@kentabenno Themata was released in 2005, and Mark Hosking joined them in 2003.
Seems I wasn't the only metalhead back in the day that had Tasmin Archer's masterpiece stuck in their head.
Maybe it's not the best thing to say here but Mark Hosking has such a unique and haunting voice. He is better than Ian IMO. He shoud totally start a band in which he sings... Or he can sing one or two songs on Karnivool albums. Anyways we need to hear more of these golden vocals!

Definitivamente mi cover favorito de todos los tiempos!!!!
The Gotye cover is boss too. They make it there own like this cover.
Guitarist sung, did drums and guitar for this song. Unsure of bass. He's a talented man.
Really? I thought it was only guitar and vocals, although Goddard is the one that recorded guitar, drumms and some voices in THEMATA
