    92 buick started quitting while driving and then would easily restart.Was charging at 14.3 and battery was at 12.3 when tested.Now car won,t start just cranks over like it wants to start and you smell gas.Have oil leak that is spraying on engine belt and alternator was raining hard outside and ice cold today.Not able to work long on car because out in the wind.Could it be the alternator?Or something else?

    Back the camera up so we can see what side of the motor the loose wire is located.

    before u found that ground and was trying to start the car did it start then stall out immediately? i have a 2000 impala with the same engine ive replaced the fuel pump idle air valve the tp sensor maf sensor map sensor etc.... cleaned the negative ground from the battery and i saw this ground u have in the video earlier but its in a difficult location

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  8 лет назад +1

      if it is a 3800 series 2 engine and not the 3400 series, perhaps it was installed incorrectly, the book does prove that a ground wire does belong there ( transmission bell ground wire). Yes it started for a couple of seconds maybe 3-4 and then stalled out. Had no spark at the boots then investigated the cause the igniter module was getting power but was missing a ground. Dont forget the four principals. you HAVE to have IGNITION (easiest on this model) Fuel, compression (with a compression gauge) and timing. in my opinion i would check ignition, then fuel, then timing, and then compression because thats the hardest on the model. if you lack one element you wont have a running engine.

    my friend have a 1999 Buick regal and she's stranded her car is stuck in the Winn Dixie parking lot. she have the same engine as you and it's a no crank no start. we changed the alternator and got a used battery and still won't crank. I jack the car up and there's a lot of oil everywhere looks like she had an oil leak and her starter looks rusty and have corrosion on it I just want to know why it wouldn't crank

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  7 лет назад +1

      Chief Bubba have your measured for 12v to the starter?? if not do it and if the starter does not. have 12 v then its an electric issue if it does starter may be bad or you may have a hydro/vapor locked engine.

      Alfonso Perez I didn't do nothing like that but I was being a good samaritan helping the lady out. but we changed the alternator and she had a good battery but it still didn't crank and now the battery is dead I don't know what could be causing that. her starter looks horrible as well. I thought it would've cranked by now

      Chief Bubba best thing i could probably tell someone of your skill level would be to try a spare key and check for busted fuses and if everything is ok seek professional help after

    Crank No Start Condition on Pontiac Grand Prix GT
    Giving gas sometimes results Crank and Start
    After some time start peters out to ENGINE STOP while Ignition in START.
    Security Light is off!
    Sometimes RPM jumps around!
    Sometimes on turning key there is Crank and Start but it also dies out after some time???

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  7 лет назад

      crank position sensor, this vehicle does not have a timing belt only a timing chain that is engineered to last the life of the vehicle. A jumping rpm single is a tell tail sign of a bad CP sensor. (this vehicle also does not have a camshaft position sensor) this vehicle does not have a vvt or equivalent the cam is a fixed position so there is not a great need to have the extra sensor.

  • @jonclark6719
    @jonclark6719 7 лет назад +1

    Were the grounds loose when you found them? I am having the same issue with my grand prix and i checked the grounds and they seemed tight and didnt look abnormally corroded. Also do you remember what size the nut was? Thank you

    • @fonzothebeast
      @fonzothebeast  7 лет назад +1

      Jon Clark the nut was tight, the galvanic corrosion finds a way in through microscopic pours and imperfections in the two dissimilar metal. sorry but i don't remember the nut size
