@@GoldShawFarm oh wow that's really cool. I didn't know RUclips had a future like that where you can post a short as a replay to a comment and it will even include the thumbnail.
I don’t think Abby “gave up” when she came back after seeing the aerial predator. Rather, I think Toby and Abby were doing exactly what a team of livestock guardians should do; one goes out to search and make sure the threat has left the area, while one stays back with the livestock to make sure they won’t be unattended and vulnerable to predators. This is why having 2 or more livestock guardian dogs together is important. Toby is older and more experienced, so he probably went out to search, where he’d possibly encounter a predator while Abby stayed back with the livestock. It may have seemed like she gave up since the birds are mostly all safe in the hoop house, but you had opened the door and let them out. This kind of behaviour would be very advantageous in the summer when all the birds are roaming around outside.
We have duck, chicken, quail, and turkey eggs. Turkey eggs taste the best boiled, quail eggs taste the best pickled, chicken eggs taste the best cooked up in bacon lard with black pepper. ❤
I know you've said in the past how you really enjoy telling a well thought out story in your videos. I can honestly say you have succeeded in my opinion. Yours is the only farm channel I watch and it is definitely because of the effort I imagine goes into each and every video. Thank you for the great stories. 🙏
iv never been interested in farming, the closest iv ever been to doing similar things is helping my dad plant potatoes in the back yard , but besides that I'm rarely interested in gardening and farming videos yet I found my self subscribing to this channle, his clearly doing something right for this videos to be enjoyable
@@CrimsonAkato exactly. You said it so much clearer than I did. It’s not that I dislike other farm channels it’s just the subject doesn’t interest me. But Morgan’s videos are simply well crafted stories. Thank you 🙏
I just LOVE how friendly and calm Randy the Macho-Man Savage is, with how still skittish and uneasy the other cows can be, even though they've certainly warmed up to you and contact a lot more I've always wished for you to have one of those cuddly friendly highland cows you see online, I think over time he's going to be a very needy, attention loving baby and still a great father. All the best from the UK bud, stay safe and warm! (or as best you can :) )
I have a suggestion for you to consider. The area with all the cedar? Have you considered hiring a couple of young guys to come in and clear cut that all except for a swath to the north and west? It would give you a protected area to winter the cattle out of the prevailing winter winds. The neat thing about cedars is if they are cut off at ground level, they won't grow back. You could seed that area this Spring or Fall, depending how fast you move on this. Rotating the cattle through there even if all you are doing is feeding hay will help to increase the nutrients and kick start the grass. What you do with the cedars is up to you. You could sell them as fence posts, or firewood or work a deal with the guys who cut them down. Maybe they would take them off your hands. They might know a market for them, give you a percentage. The brush could be piled up for rabbit habitat. It could be supplied with water pretty easily and would give you more pasture close to the existing infrastructure.
Funny to see that no matter where you live or what lifestyle your cats have, they still follow and hover and stare at you incessantly when they think its time for them to be fed, and dash towards the "kitchen" the second you go in that direction. lol
There's nothing more satisfying than watching those Maremmas eat. I have an almost 3 year old Maremma Sheepdog boy (urban dog in Toronto) and is the reason I enjoy and laugh every single time I see your beautiful dogs on your RUclips channel. One day we'll all visit you in Vermont.
How about installing the happy cow mobile in one of the winter enclosures during winter? That way it gets use all year. Can take off the shading if necessary.
A weirdly effective makeshift brush setup I used to see all the time when I lived in upstate NY -- clusters of carpet brushes / old car snow brushes / push broom heads clustered together and attached to barn walls and fences. Looks crazy, and I'm guessing they wear out super quick, but cheaper than getting more "real brushes" and easier than rearranging all the cattle supplies.
The information you give us In your videos Morgan, is always interesting, and of a broad type. By that I mean you don't only talk about just one animal over and over on your farm. I find your life fascinating! You have a wealth of knowledge already about eco management due to your efforts in land and livestock management, and you have come a long way in your endeavours to live in a sustainable way. I admire you and Alison for your efforts. God bless you both and all those you know and love. Have a great week!
I have two pekins (f) Duchess and Sugar, and one mallard mix duck (m) Coffee who looks full mallard, all are siblings. The girl's eggs are beautiful when I candle them, they have a distinct spiral pattern in the shell. I also feel so privileged to be able to hold and hug a mallard duck when he lets me catch him. Fortunately he never flies away from his favorite sister Sugar, because we live in the midst of a bunch of duck clubs, he is one lucky duck in a private pond with 2 beautiful girls. I bet that your giant egg might be a double yoker. Early in the season (or first timers getting started) is when I get yokeless Fairey eggs, or double yolk eggs...the hen's systems sometimes take a minute to sort out the egg assembly line :)
Wow, that goose 🪿 egg 🥚 is huge! I always enjoy seeing Toby and Abbie doing their job. I am crazy about Highlands so I always love seeing them. Randy is doing so well with his socialization. 👋.
Wonder if the huge goose egg is a double yolker, it's amazing all the different sizes and love the Easter egg colors. Fun mini class Morgan, glad Toby and Abby got an all clear, guess that means all is well at Gold Shaw Farm. See ya
Your cattle knowledge is growing. Good to see. Between 6:45 and 7:00 minutes into the video the snow silhouette against the hoop house plastic looks like the skyline of a dark an evil city, aka Gotham City. Really interesting info on the eggs.
The large white farm dogs are so simpatico when they yawn. Joey has to speak well of Macho, it wont take long before Macho is bigger than he is. Good to know Alison's gluten free muffins are appreciated by the poultry. Tobes isn't happy that Abby lost interest in the raptor, more than likely an owl.
Ever thought about craft projects with your pretty eggs? Aracauna eggs are cute blown out and decorated or hung from branches for Easter. The fairy eggs would be very cute!
I guess I would be a goose egg person, since I love the yolks and and just tolerate the whites. Years ago I lived near Petaluma Egg Farm in northern California. I bought my eggs there, and loved the "seconds," the odd sized, colored and shaped ones. The wonkier the better. Huge yolks! Anyway, just one of the many things I miss about "the good old days."
I love the film references, Harry Potter/vampire diaries 😂😂😂😂, I was gonna ask if you could please fry all the eggs so that I could see the yolks but you're always detailed & broke the yolks ❤️🌹💗💕💜😘😘
When I was growing up in farm country, our mutt barn dogs would go nuts when hawks flew over, too. We had no livestock or poultry. They just protected the premises from all dangers and they recognized hawks as dangerous. You should have seen them the first time a hot air balloon floated by! Those things hiss and roar when their heaters are on to give lift to the balloon. It must have seemed like a dragon to our dogs!
I had a goose lay an egg, I think it was a about the side of the big one you found( maybe bigger) and it had a DOUBLE yoke in side. -> it tasted 😊 good
Morgan when i was growing up in the 1940's and 1950's on our farm we had Chicken & Ducking + all kinds of animals....But nobody in our family liked Duck eggs at all.....Thanks again Morgan for your fine Farm video's 👍 Shoe🇺🇸
Morgan, please consider putting some water in the dog kibble and let it sit for a few minutes to soak up the water. This is much better for the dogs stomach than if he just had to drink alot of water afterwards and the kibble swells up inside the stomach
What a great video catching up with all the animals. So glad to hear both dogs are healthy. I'm sure you've explained before but why are the weird chickens not in the hoop coop with all the other chickens?
You’ve gotten a bit of the Mary-marry-merry merger, which is unusual for New England. i wonder if maybe we are starting to get duck eggs... i found an egg in an odd place that the chickens usually dont go, and there was an absolutely dirty egg in a big nested looking area haha! i thought it was chicken at first, because it looked like a chicken egg, but now im not so sure haha! the chickens usually leave very clean eggs... in either case, because it wasnt a regularly checked area (the birds are all free to roam the whole farm) it had frozen and cracked haha
Could that large goose egg be a double yolk egg, potentially twins?

Duck eggs are amazing any way all day! Duck eggs are da bomb! ❤
cool i will try
I was wondering why no duck mention glad you followed up lol.
Growing up, my mom would put hard boiled quail eggs in her crab and egg drop soup, SO GOOD. Just soaks up all the flavor

I recommend freezing carrots in the summer for the dogs! My dog absolutely loves it as a cold snack when it's hot outside.
Watching all the birds is better than medicine. Thanks for sharing your morning chores 😊
You bet!

But they are just as smart as dogs 😂
Those birds eat a muffin as fast as I do ❤ Ty for an extra long weird chicken moment because Mondays are WEIRD 😅

I love how the cat just jumped back upp there as soon as you put her down on the snow.
Thank you for listening to advice, Morgan. Nobody wants to watch a dangerous situation or for you to be hurt. Go you.

Good morning, Morgan. As always, I caught your video this morning it makes my day. Have a great day!!!😊
Abby trying to pull one on pablo is hilarious. she'll get the paw for sure.
Brilliant video.....I loved seeing Pablo putting Abby in her place ! Don’t mess with the claws !!! 😉
I love seeing the dogs go on high alert. Toby is the best LGD and Abby is coming right along.
Giant breed dogs can keep growing and filling out til they are 2 and a half.
If you sell the freakishly large egg, maybe whoever buys it can send you a picture of the resulting goose, to see what it ended up looking like.
A follow-up with the hatcher would be awesome!
I'm glad that both Toby and Abby are happy and healthy. Hopefully with the arrival of spring, the snow will melt making farm chores easier.
Goodmorning Mr Shaw
His last name is Gold.
When abby was growling at pablo and pablo was just like "I don't sweat you!" made laugh. BA kitty right there.
Learning about eggs is pretty interesting! It was cool seeing those type of eggs, I've never seen a fairy egg before. Thanks for the information.
Good morning Morgan. Wow that egg was a whopper
I love how they celebrate scaring the big bad bird away.
Morgan, with your typical music insert, I can't help do it on my own now, even at 10:04 I had Gene Wilder singing Pure imagination.
Do you give the barn cats treats like you do for the dogs? They always seem left out and fed last. I think I need to send them some temptations.❤

Abby immediately goes schlop schlop schlop schlop on those eggs. Reminds me of my old yellow lab
"Be Itched" reminded me of the old TV show and made me laugh.
On the job training! I love it! Best way to learn.
Ahhhh! “Leave it”. 👏👏👏
Now please add “Off” for Abby’s jumping on you! She’s too big to allow that behavior.
First day of Spring and Happy New Year from Iran

Dogs love carrots! Try frozen green beans too, though, some dogs prefer canned over frozen. Pumpkin is another treat they love
Adorable animals glad abby and toby are doing great the different size eggs are so cool

I suggest a denim vest for the summer so you can endure being a cat tree but be cool enough for the heat. Not sure I'd recommend shorts, though.
the weird chickens are such a joy! my mother has silkies and theyre my absolute favorite.

Aaaah, blissful! Thanks, Morgan, for another great video!!
Thank you for the weird chickens. They are my moment of zen.
my dog loved carrots, he weighed 23kg but got fat in his last 3 months which included christmas and was 25kg when we lost him last month
i'm glad you're having fun w the thumbnails
With plastic water bottle (1,5 l here in Europe) cut out a rectangular on the side. You can hold it then on the cap and 'get it under' ;)

I have to say that Tobydog is still my favorite!❤
Here in Canada where I live there is no snow in the valley. Spring is here
12:19. I’m instantly thinking of (the movie) turner and hootch. “This is not yours”
I love how Pablo tried to smack down Abby. Proves how gangsta he really is 😂 I knew he would be.
Nice to see Toby enjoying breakfast..He is usually so guarded and cautious
im consistently impressed by your memeological prowess. bravo
Best shot in the video is at 7:13 when Pablo lets Abby know who's the boss! Hahaha!
I saw my vet use a plastic ladle to catch a sample. It seemed much easier than the tray method. And much less likely to make your hands get dirty.

A lot of snow today but.... a thaw is coming this week!

Chomp chomp chomp, a feeding episode with Zen chickens! Top notch video! I let out a genuine Andy "Woooooo" when those chickens came on
Which reminds me...you need to build a "happy bull&steer mobile".
I had an Airedale with kidney problems so protein is a no no.
Carrots and apples, her favourite!

NO!
Nope absolutely not. I’ve only heard that it isn’t poisonous to rats and humans. I guess Morgan doesn’t know
Pablo Escobarn out there reminding the dogs who is the boss of this cartel!!
Woohoo Weird Chickens! Always good to see them😀
3 eggs! The dogs really lucked out that day.
My vet calls carrots doggy dental floss, same for raw sweet potatoes too.
15:00 you have skilled sous chefs.
Almost every single fairy egg I find is yolk less like the one you opened but I once found one that had a tiny yolk.
Love your channel and all you share with us. Thank you ❤️😁

Really cool that they lay such a tiny egg with no yolk
Never heard it called fairy egg before, what a lovely name. Here in my part of the Uk we usually call them wind eggs.
Itching to be scratched lol ..so adorable...

Meh. If they have plenty of water it’s fine dry. It’s also better dry for their teeth.
What a great video catching up with all the animals. So glad to hear both dogs are healthy. I'm sure you've explained before but why are the weird chickens not in the hoop coop with all the other chickens?
The weird chickens are smaller than the others and could be hurt by them.
The weird chickens will be picked on and bullied by the others due to their smaller size and different appearance
