Building In The HOT Summer

- It has been 6 years now since we had to start over after a medical release from the military. We moved off base and have been building our own home. We started off building the first section of our home. We are finally at the stage where we are building the extension. We also have prep work ready for the garage!
Our names are Ashley & Jeremy and we are building a cabin alone in the Canadian wilderness.
We're a couple trying our best to live a more self reliant life after a medical release from the army changed everything. We are currently building on a small mountain in the woods. We'll be sharing that and much more, so subscribe.
I love how you rock your baby every time you stand still.
My goodness there is nothing slack about you two. Great job and I feel for you Ashley.
Thanks 😊
Wood is the new gold! Prayers for you guys always
Jeremy you and Ashley are working hard I know I can't wait to get the other side of the cabin done take your time make sure you drink lots of water or Gatorade stay hydrated in all the heat that's going to be a beautiful Cabin when it's done
All of a sudden you 2 seem to have so much more energy and that is wonderful.
Getting the structures up and waterproof as fast as you can while the weather is good is a VERY GOOD STRATEGY.
When the bad weather comes you can work in "sheltered comfort" which is far more efficient and pleasant.
One thing I wanted to ask : How is your daughter reacting to the impending arrival of a sibling?
She has been an "only child" for more than 10 years (guessing her age here) and the transition can be a little bit traumatic at that age.
She is very excited! And she will still be 9 when the new one arrives.
Praying for Ashley's health in this whole situation that you guys have a great outcome.
Ashley, you look gorgeous. Prayers for you and the baby. Jeremy, you keep showing how much you have increased your building skills. The addition is looking awesome.
Thank you so much!
That’s a cool garage area can’t wait for it all to come together hang in there Ashley won’t be long now kudos to you Jeremy your building quality seems to be getting real good 🙂
Native Floridian here ... I eat heat like Cheerios ... hehehe ... Ashley you look just beautiful, glowing like a candle ... and yeah I agree Jeremy - something fishy about those aquariums ... smh ... I'm not sure I can handle your Dad jokes if you have another kid! hehehe ... love you guys
Lol
Agreed🤣❤.

Why is the addition so far from the main house? Why didn't you add it to the house? Just asking!
@@wandaeades7274 not sure if you seen it but we shared a video explaining how we will add them together.
Dont forget to stain the house protect the wood also wash you shed with deck and fence wash then stain it too before it rots .
The house is sided with hemlock, there is no need to stain it. Thanks 😊
So, so much you have accomplished in the past 6 years. Everything just gets better. Have a safe weekend and stay cool.
Ashley, your keeping fit by grabbing the rails and positioning them for the walls. Great job and you still look flexible. Smart move on your shower enclosure inside. Great thinking. I love the take out some trees for lighting and room to maneuver. Looking forward to your rafters in place. That will look awesome. Suggestion : If you have any galvanized pipe around. You can make a rail for Ashley to grab coming up/down the temporary stairs. Just buy a couple right angles or 45 deg fitting. I think RUclips has a pipe rail someone made and very cheap. Or I guess you could use 2 X 4 boards to make a simple rail to grab. Hugs from Santa Barbara. 🤗😘🙏👏😎🌹✝
That woman is doing great helping you Jeremy you have got a winner and the end reward is going to be amazing
Congrats, on the bump..
Loving the new look out side the Cabin, it will for sure make life easier with the vehicles. Jeremy love the gig you made when getting stair markings, made it so much easier. I’m 76 still active in DIY and sure learnt a lot from you, so Thanks. Ashley your a beautiful women at any time but you Glow being pregnant, glad you both were getting out of the heat. Good job you 2!....mama looking good!
Great choice for a pickup. I have a 2021 RAM Classic Warlock with the Hemi motor. Very happy with it. Ashley looking good. I bet she’ll be glad to deliver the baby especially after this hot season so far. Prayers continue!
Hey man, I just stumbled upon this channel and it feels like exactly what I was looking for because I wanted to join the military so it can fund my dream of starting a homestead. I'm 19 and I got into the ROTP program for the navy as an NWO, starting BMOQ in the summer of 2025. But before all of that, I didn't even join the military for this life as I didn't even think it was possible for a newcomer to start a homestead from scratch and that I wasn't even interested in doing it since I just thought that the military was a good career to be in and progress myself compared to jobs in the CS (computer science) sector, which are oversaturated and hard to get a job in that field. Anyways, it wasn't until after a couple of months when I found a few homesteading channels like Gold Shaw Farm, White House on the Hill, This Off Grid Life, Hidden Spring Farm, and Bush Radical that I realized I hated modern life. I don’t personally hate the modern conveniences of it, but I hate the way we go about making our living. It seems so superficial and not tied to working for what we actually want, and personally, even before I found out about the homesteading life, I hated the thought of working a 9 to 5. I had worked in a job for the co-op program in my high school and worked for a teaching institution called Code Ninjas, and my experience with my boss and coworkers working there was great, but beyond the job, I wasn't feeling fulfilled because it didn't feel like I was building anything for myself when I was working at this place. Hating a 9 to 5 does not mean that I am lazy, I just don't like working for somebody else with barely anything to give me back in return. In today's day and age, you can see people with six-figure income high-paying jobs and still living unfulfilling lives, living as though they were never present in their experiences, always buying expensive clothing, going to clubs, and filling their void with those things. And those are the middle and upper-class people; the lower class doesn't even get to participate in any of that. It is obvious that Canada is a broken country in that it has overpriced groceries and inflated real estate prices, not to mention the exorbitant carbon tax imposed by the government that makes it barely habitable to live a modern life in Canada. This is why I was really drawn into this lifestyle and wanted to grow my own food, build my own house and utilities after my military contract ends. I thank you for showing how the homesteading life can work for a Canadian vet.
Hey, thanks for stopping by, providing some of your background and the kind words. We wish you all the best going forward, I’m sure you’ll do great. You seem to have a good grasp on what you want and that’s awesome!
Hi you guys 🤗. I’ve been wondering what you’ve been up to…
I like to keep track of my friends from time to time. You’re both looking great.
Thanks for the update!

Thanks so much :)
Good job. Looking good, Ashley. Everything is coming together.
Nice set of stairs. Trusses are are at hand and ready to be placed. Looks like a lot of enjoyable work cut out to do.
New addition coming along nice, enjoyed the video. The heat has been tuff lately in Illinois also. Try to stay cool.
WoW.... you must have a really nice piggy bank if you didn't have to break it to get that 2023 monster!!! Looks awesome Jeremy!!!
Deadly sales on the classics and we sold our truck, so that helped.
Laying out stair stringers always whips my tail. But, I'm not a carpenter either.. although I have played one once or twice.
Haha

Nice builds. You'll need a machine shed in the future. Great place.
With JoJo as site manager, you guys keep it moving pretty fast!
Haha
@ 11:21 I assume that sweet pretty pregnant lady is doing the editing on these videos, so Kudos to her for the time lapse as building the stairs would have gotten boring LOL
haha, nope, all editing done by Jeremy.
Nice work on the temporary steps using the homemade template.
Thanks!
Well Jeremy, here we're years later and I'm still jealous of you, because my wife assisted with my building
project by pouring out five boxes of different sized screws and nails in a big plastic gal jar.
Haha
What progress in just a couple of weeks, you guys! And I'm always amazed at how fast RUclips babies grow! Must be all the time lapse shots...😳 Y'all take care, and stay hydrated...✌🏻❤🍕

Is it easier building in this season. I remember the snow etc you had to remove from the floor andsnow was waite hogh outside it seemed.
Overall easier , yes, but maybe not during an actual heat warning haha.
🇳🇴👍👍👌
👍🏻👍🏻🍺
Hi kids, currently 95°f here in Philadelphia and 88% humidity, expecting a thunderstorm… soon I hope 😳💦
Same thing rolling in here too!

Good job John 3:16❤
It's been 9 days. are you gonna do a video again soon? miss your vids.
Yes, one goes up today at 5 AST :)
Anyone have the short version of what happened to the old place they were working on. I missed some videos obviously.
Ya missed about 3 years worth or more haha, here is a short video on it ruclips.net/video/vTXjLLzj0eE/видео.htmlsi=WKdnRX1qbMKbTe5S
@@MBFModernHomesteading Damned time flies when you get old.
@@andrewpinson1268 haha it sure does.
🖐😎👍
I have never seen headers like you built on the interior wall. They are not built correct.
Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it is incorrect. I assure you these headers are built properly and a common way to do them as well.
@@MBFModernHomesteading you need to turn them to where the stong side is up bot lay them flat
@@dannyflanery7466 No need for that at all with non load bearing interior walls.
Thank god you have a skill my brother because you won't of survive with these jokes 😂😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂
LOL
Did you hear about the new Duplex outhouse? The Canadians live upstairs and the Americans live in the basement.
