I pre-ordered it back in May as well! All I saw was him with his walking stick and throne, and I was all in! I didn't even look at the price... and I eventually forgot all about it. Then, yesterday The Wife asked why Amazon just took out nearly $50 from our bank account. That's when I saw that this was no 3.75" figure, but was almost twice the size with multiple heads and... Force lightning hands?! I couldn't wait to get home tonight to get him on the shelf! He's sitting in his throne with his walking stick and pointing right at you. Smiling, like the sly and overconfident bastard that he is. The low overhang on his throne actually helps to hold his hood in place, and I was even able to mold it to look how it's supposed to. I'm so glad that I got this! Palpatine has always been my favorite Star Wars character. The Prequels finally answered the question that I'd had from the first time I saw "Return of the Jedi": How did this obviously evil, cackling, old geezer become Emperor of the Galaxy? (The excitement I had when I heard them call him "Senator Palpatine" in "Episode I" was incredible!) I completely love the PT for that! I even got to meet Ian McDiarmid last year and had him sign my 2007 Star Wars Stamp Sheet.
In the film, he does sit closer to the top canopy than I would have thought too, but not quite as close as the figure seems to. If the figure had a mid torso crunch and could hunch forward a bit more, it'd be near perfect.
From what I've heard if you use like a spray bottle and hit these cloth robes, hoods, capes etc. that a lot of 1/12 toy lines use with it, you can fold and get stuff where you want it and then it dries that way and usually keeps the shape. From what I remember he does sit almost that close to the top of the chair, but the chair almost looks like it sits lower as well. What I find odd, I remember Palpatine in ROTJ being way more pale, almost grey in skin tone compared to this and the archive figure. On the fence about getting this one given I have the archive and a 3d printed chair can be found pretty damn cheap on etsy. Those heads and lightning hands are nice and kind of pushing me to just get it.
I picked up an archive at Ollies to swap the cloak. Supposedly it’s better than the one on this set. We will see how that goes when my throne set arrives. I’ll be displaying with the grinning head sitting on the throne flanked by two royal guards.
lmao, looking at this throne design, it must be uncomfortable as shit. with your arm just resting on an edge like that the whole time lmao. and that is definitely where he's resting his arms when on this thing.
Just get a bunch of Red Royal Guards ( on the cheap ) , don’t you hate Amazon when they ruin the package. Ordered a Vintage Collection N1 and they shipped it UPS in a plastic envelope ☹️
I canceled my Amazon PO at the last moment based on instinct. I already have the original but wanted to see if they improved the face prints in any way and because I like the new box design. I'm so glad I did it, because this has a lower quality, especially the cloth goods. The heads look good without those bluish marks on them but not necessarily better. Seeing all those scratches on the throne makes me realize how much they care.
I'm always conflicted on plastic vs soft goods hoods. On one hand soft goods is almost always annoying to get sitting properly on the figures head, on the other the plastic alternative like what they did on the recent-ish Revenge of the Sith Palpatine might look better but it limits head articulation.
I have this and the original as well as the archive and 40th anniversary rotj version. This is the exact same as the first release the only difference being the new box .
Very cool looking figure and I really do like the chair 👍👍👍👍

The hood is horrible. They should’ve made it plastic

That hood is terrible. At some point I might try use the hood from the Darth Sidious figure, which has a great plastic hood.
