The warning signs that you were about to have a seizure were 1. Aphasia- inability to find words. 2. Tinnitus- "noise in your head". You did a great job describing your body's warning signs. If you feel these again, lay down to prevent another head injury.

She may need multiple meds. Poor thing. Hopefully they will figure it out. Hate to say it but, my daughter was born in 1994 and it took Doctors until 2011 to figure it out. Took the smartest Doctor. Dr. Deepak MADHAVAN out of Omaha Nebraska. He is now working pediatrics but he may be convinced to take a look at her case. He has people see him from as far away as Canada. I disagree. If she has a seizure sitting in a wheelchair, there is a huge risk her airway will become blocked, as she likely would slump forward. A person having a seizure has incredible strength and to get her sitting correctly so her airway is open, could be next to impossible. Plus people having seizures while sitting in wheelchairs, and shake and tremble so bad they slide out of them and hit their head on the floor. I have seen this more than once occur.

Evan, something I learned through my husband's illness, you have to be her proponent. It is ok to question everyone and everything, and you should. Medical staff will not think of telling you everything you need to know. I was worried about my husband in the ICU; I needed to know that he was safe being next to a patient who had a flesh-eating bacteria. With all the worries, I did not need to carry that one. The nurse blew me off, so I asked the doctor. The nurse got very angry with me, but I don't care. I got the answer I needed to know that my husband was safe. If you don't understand something, ask. If you are unsure of something, ask. You are Carlin's front line. Be proactive. If you upset someone, that's just too bad. Carlin is what matters.

I am a retired nurse. Advocating for, as well as asking questions until you are understanding and satisfied with the answer is very important. We always advised patients and their families to keep a notebook with questions and then the answers written down. Even writing down medication changes or strange or different symptoms really help you out when you are asked a question you may not have an immediate answer for but you know whatever did happen and having the notebook might help. It really helped our patients, their families, the nurses, Drs and everyone else involved in the care. This is a suggestion only, if you are doing it awesome, if it is not something you are interested in, that is okay too. Just give it consideration please.

Perhaps the variation in this is causing the seizures. Also her MTHFR may drop vitamin B levels which is a known cause of seizures too. I originally thought the seizures were from epidural but they started before. But the prolactin can be active around labor time.

I so feel for you and I understand what you are going through. My story is different. I had my thyroid removed in 2018. Within a few weeks of having mine removed I started having seizures. Went through all of the tests you have had so far. After 6 months and multiple EEG’s later I had one while having an EEG. I had a “misfire” as they explained it to me in an area of my brain where thyroid controls. My neurologist finally came up with an answer. He believed my body went in shock after having my thyroid removed. I’m in the less than 1 percent that has had that happen. So mine are trauma induced. I rarely have them now. Usually when I get over anxious or stressed when I have them. I am not on seizure meds but the doctor decided to put me on antidepressants and anti anxiety medicine to see if it helped. He also told me they would slowly get better and he was right. I hope this helps you somehow Carlin! Everything you described in how you felt before and after is how I was! Praying for you and your precious family! By the way I live in north Alabama so not too far from you guys.

Stewart family: I've been going through Carlin's similar symptoms for over 20 years. It started out with "passing out", having seizures (my very first one was when I was driving...and I hit & totaled a college policeman's truck... even worse is I knew him and worked with him as a co-worker at a college), trouble with speech, brain fog, etc. Then suddenly, I went into a kind of "remission" for about 8 years, but then started having increasing amounts of severe constant chronic pain. The constant pain started when I was pregnant with my only child (he's 15 now) and just continued to get worse from there.
I dealt with the pain for as long as I could, but eventually after 2-3 years, I was in so much unbearable pain that I left my job and I wasn't really able to take care of my young son, needed TONS of help from family.
After I saw a neurosurgeon, we discovered I had a very rare form of a benign, but very aggressive & very large spinal tumor which ended up being 9 inches long: it went from my T4 vertebrae to my left shoulder blade and the surgeon removed what he could, but he said this aggressive hemangioma tumor are away part of the protective coating around my spine, and that would cause severe constant pain for the rest of my life. Although my back pain after surgery was significantly better, I was still in very severe intractable pain 24/7/365.
Then suddenly, about 8 years after the last seizure and about 4 months after my spinal surgery/tumor resection, I had a seizure...while driving... this time with my 3 year old son in the backseat. We were miraculously ok after I somehow went through a MAJOR intersection in Dallas, TX and through a small opening to a gated community and "only" dinged a parked car! Very scary to "wake up" to a police officer banging on my car window with my son screaming in the backseat, and not being able to speak at all! The officer thought I was on drugs, but thank God Almighty my husband came there in his jailer uniform (he's a detention officer for Dallas County Sheriff's Department) to convince the officer that I don't take drugs and I never have.
Of course, I gave up driving after that!
My pain (back, and widespread both) became so severe that I had to start seeing a pain management doctor just to manage my pain enough to take care of my son at home, and he was later confirmed to be an autistic savant (animals, dinosaurs, any real or fictional living creature).
Then in 2016, the "opioid epidemic" hit HARD, and here's what I mean by this:
I never abused/misused my very medically necessary medications, but unfortunately the new CDC Guidelines about opioid prescriptions scared my doctor so much that he was afraid of being arrested, so he panicked and abruptly stopped ALL of my meds (I still had my seizure meds back then, but not for long) suddenly.
About 4 days later after the abrupt discontinuations, I had a stroke, and I was only 33 years old then.
It was then that my life really spiralled downhill very FAST: I became unable to care for myself, let alone my autistic son.
Then to add insult to injury, I was told by my neurologist who was prescribing my seizure meds, that I would have to CHOOSE to either treat my seizures OR treat my unbearable pain.
At the time, I figured that I can "live" with occasional seizures, but I just could not survive in that kind of intractable pain.
So I was taken off all of my seizure meds because I chose to treat my unbearable pain, which couldn't be treated any other way at that point in time.
Keep in mind, I had been taking both seizure and pain meds for YEARS without any problems whatsoever. I was able to care for my family and for myself back then.
I became homebound, bedridden, chair-bound, and I was a shell who was barely just surviving at best.
Also note: I never had any side-effects like "feeling good or high" from ANY of my medications...I only felt some pain relief which allowed me to live a functional life.
Sorry about the long story, and I'm trying to make it shorter:
I basically was treated like a drug junkie, like garbage, and me & my family members have witnessed MANY stories of them medically abandoning me and misdiagnosed and my health continued to decline.
My faith in God and my son are the ONLY 2 reasons why I stayed alive through that point.
I finally found an online community on Facebook, which led me to my current pain management doctor.
His treatments slowly started helping me become more functional, but by then, I had developed muscle atrophy because of the stroke and because of untreated intractable pain for years! Plus I continued to have an increasing number of seizures.
Last year in July 2021, I suddenly lost control/sensation of my left thigh and I had to be taken to a hospital an hour away to be taken seriously. It turns out I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis! Those doctors were appalled and shocked by the way I'd been "treated" by these other "medical professionals".
I have a medication pump in me now, which helps.
I'm also using something called Lifewave patches, which have recently started giving me my life back!
Sorry this was so long, but I would LOVE to help Carlin and Evan learn to handle both the medical personnel, such as learning how to advocate for yourself while still being respectful to them, etc.
If anyone in the Stewart/Bates family would like my free volunteer help as a coach/consultant, then I would be more than happy to do so!
Maybe it would spare Carlin and Evan the Hell on earth I had to walk through and back again!
NOTE: Opioids have been demonized in recent years, but there are a significant number of people out there with a very clear physical need for them and they have never abused, misused, or craved them.
Ever since I found Lifewave patches, I haven't needed any opioids at all. I was able to stop taking my opioids, which I was on for over 14 years total, with no problem whatsoever. No cravings, no withdrawal, etc.
I get all of my pain relief from my Lifewave patches and I've also been seizure-free since October 1, 2021, which is HUGE for me!
I hope and pray Carlin and Evan sees this post, takes the time to read the whole thing, and leave me a comment with maybe a way to communicate so Carlin doesn't have to suffer the way I did.
    Sincerely with God's Love,
    Christina Nunn

I so adore this family!!! God bless your hearts, for trying to be so patient. I am glad the moving part is over, and some of the OCD is calm. I have PTSD, and have unbelievable panic attacks just out of the blue. They are scary, and feed into my uneasiness, which triggers the panic attacks. It’s a vicious cycle. I have learned to just sit down wherever I am, and stay down until I either have a lot of help around me, or it subsides. I just hand it over to God and let him deal with it. And yes Carlin, I understand the “what happened “? I can’t remember anything either. I am just thankful I do not have children at home anymore, that would drive me crazy for sure. Even all my grands are in school, so I am not babysitting anymore. Just know, you’re in our prayers and though it feels like it, you are not alone in this situation. Hugs 🥰🥰

Hi! Just to add my experience on passing out, I had a very similar experience to what you were going through in the beginning of all of this. I’ve never had a child so that wasn’t what caused it, I was on a few different medications that would cause my blood pressure to plummet. I was also really low on sodium. I’m sure those have all been checked by your drs but, maybe something to look into as well? Best of luck!
