  • Japan's notorious organised crime syndicates - the yakuza - have seen their power and ranks erode, following decades of crackdowns. They had more than 90,000 members three decades ago. But as of the end of 2022, the number had plummeted to about 22,000, according to the National Police Agency. But those who quit face stigma and legal barriers to rejoining society. CNA's Michiyo Ishida speaks to a former yakuza.

It’s such a shame to conclude that yakuza = crime while normal citizens = good. Those in a gang have more integrity then those not in the gang while normal citizens have a more selfish hearts to others. By the way it goes now, it is very obvious and show the big difference on gangs and normal citizens, one with greater humanity and the other just selfishly unforgiven

underbelly of east asia. East Asia is so safe. you really have to dig deep to find the shtz. I laugh when these journalists think they are 'courting danger' to bring you these sort of reporting. Look at this piece. A FORMER Yakuza? The piece already says the Yakuza is declining. Just like the triads in HK/China. why don't you go digging in South East Asia or South Asia instead. I dare you.
