Man, I just lost it watching this! Those poor kids, bless em for soldiering on in the most terrible of times! We all love you guys! RIP, UMMB director George N. Parks, a great man and truly the heart and soul of this band.
George Parks was the greatest drum major and music teacher and motivator of young men and women there ever was. The drum corps hall of fame both says a little about him, but too little. He towered above all others, but above all he was a true gentleman, the truest of all. God bless you George, you were loved by us and sooo many others!!
Thank you for posting this! My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the UMass and DMA families. I had the privilege of playing under him at UMass in 1994. It is an experience I will never forget in large part because of Mr. Parks.
Thank you for this post..... It was an honor to have called George my compatriot, even more so to have known him as a true gentleman and friend.... He was and IS, for me and my fellow DCA DMs, the "Drum Major's Drum Major". You are missed my friend, Godspeed... Yours in Corps, Tony White Sunrisers, 1975-1985
Ah, the wonders of modern technology and the information age! Thanks for capturing this and posting it so that the many, many of us not there with the band can rally with them all the way. Okay, gonna lose it now.
George Parks' memory will live on for as long as there is a great state university in western Massachusetts. Well done by the UMMB today, bravo for keeping it together through the performance. I know I didn't.
I had the honor of working with G Parks in high school at the traditional UMass Band Day. He was an absolutely amazing director and will be greatly missed, but always remembered. Rest In Peace +-
@Idn42 not a bad thing. as a third year member of this band, an an IMPACT staff member at DMA and a friend of GNP's, I know that it is ok to say that its not in fact a bad thing that we will change. After seeing all 380 of my best friends crying in one another's arms through this weekend, I know that we will change, and for the better. We have only become stronger, and I think this will shine through in everything we do, and everything our audiences experience through us. I love you UMMB -Rach
@tbsigma94 i don't think anyone who has met his can believe that a man who was so full of life could believe that he is gone. I will always remember him and the lessons he taught me. Rest in Peace George N. Parks
The significance of the train horn cannot be ignored. That's GNP saying goodbye on his way up. No question about it. RIP GNP.
